Experience peace and tranquillity in the luxurious surroundings of this spectacular Scottish Baronial Castle, a member of the prestigious Relais & Châteaux Association.
The award winning, five star Glenapp Castle, offers internationally renowned standards of quality and service, as well as superb fine dining with Three AA Rosettes and a Good Food Guide '6' rating.
The castle is set amid thirty acres of magnificent gardens and woodland on the beautiful Ayrshire coast, just ninety minutes south of Glasgow. Guests enjoy strolling through the gardens and grounds and the surrounding countryside of Ayrshire and the vast Galloway Forest Park is ruggedly beautiful with many places to visit and sights to see.
In 1994, Glenapp Castle was purchased in a near derelict state by Graham and Fay Cowan. Over the next six and a half years, the castle was refurbished and the gardens completely restored. Both have now been returned to their former glory, while retaining all of their original character and atmosphere. Every room in the castle has been luxuriously decorated in traditional style, and furnished with carefully chosen antique furniture and original art.
The castle has steadily won a string of awards and accolades and is now recognised as one of the finest country house hotels in the United Kingdom. Awards to date include Five Stars from the Scottish Tourist Board, Four Red Houses in the Michelin Guide, and Five Red Stars and Three Rosettes for cuisine from the AA. The castle has also received two ‘Hideaway of the Year’ awards from the American ‘Andrew Harper Hideaway Report’. In 2001 Glenapp became members of the prestigious Relais & Châteaux association, a group of small luxury hotels which has 468 members worldwide. The castle received the Scottish Castle Hotel of the Year Award for 2006, the AA Hotel of the Year for Scotland and Northern Ireland 2005 – 2006, and the Good Food Guide Scottish Restaurant of the Year Award for 2007.
Glenapp Castle is set amid 36 acres of totally private gardens and woodland, in which many of our guests spend happy hours exploring. There are many woodland walks and longer hikes locally and the massive Galloway Forest Park is within forty minutes by car.
We do not have a spa at the castle, but we have access to a very luxurious new local spa, approximately five minutes away by car, which as well as a pool, sauna, Jacuzzi, hammam and gym, offers a full range of beauty treatments and massage.
The castle has croquet and an all weather tennis court within the grounds, and our pride and joy is the two and a half acre walled garden, with its many mature and unusual plantings, and magnificent 150ft Victorian glasshouses.
