Hotel has a nice beach and is very close to the airport.  You can hear the planes taking off and landing.  The hotel could use a few updates.  We had a small water leak in the bathroom that obviously (based on the stain size) had been there a while.  Also, the patio door was very difficult to open and close.  The food in the restaurant was good.

Nice calm cove for swimming, good tiki bar, all rooms are beach front, nice for a night or two stop over. Close to airport but taxi is not a bargain, since it was only 2 of us going to the airport, they took us in a private, small, dirty jalopy, rather than the hotel van, they didn't want to use the gas...but had no problem charging us $10 per person , plus they wanted to charge $2 per piece for luggage lol.... it's less than a 1 mile to the airport, definitely walkable, but road is busy and it's pretty hot and humid....

The Marriot Frenchman's Reef and Morningstar resort are the best vacation properties near Charlotte Amalie. The views are amazing. I recommend paying a little extra to stay in the main tower and get an ocean view room. The resort is saafe to wander around any time of day or night. There are plenty of places to eat within walking distance,  but are a little spendy. Expect to be asked to sit through time share presentations. They're not pushy about it, but they do benefit from you attending them. There are plenty of neaches, snorkling, boat tours etc that they'll help you with if you are looking for adventure. Charlotte Amalie is full of duty free shopping. Great deals on on jewelry, perfume, tobacco and alcohol. Allow a long enough vacation to see all the sights.

I haven't been to the F.R in decades but all thoughts of going back have been removed by all the negative reviews. Looks like a 50/50 proposition. I can't understand why SOMEONE in management would allow these problems to continue. I guess we'll go to the Turks.

This hotel is situated high up on a hill overlooking Charlette Amalie in St Thomas and the views from most hillside rooms is spectacular and generally quiet. The rooms facing the street leave a lot to be desired as the rooms are only about 10 feet off the road and traffic is abundant until at least 1am daily leaving you with a lot of zoom-zoom in your sleep. Parking is extremely limited (about 6 designated spots) and at your own risk. The room itself was clean but small with a simple full-size bed, a mini-fridge and A/C unit that shook and rattled and made noise all night. The bathroom consisted of a small stand-up shower, sink and toilet with no room to place your toiletries. For relaxing, the pool is nice and comes with ample chairs, recliners, and umbrella tables to enjoy the light meals and drinks available from the bar - all at a fairly reasonable charge. They do provide daily transportation to Megans Bay and downtown at a very modest charge while taxies are abundant for other tra...

Had we realized that the hotel was so far from the beach or downtown, we would have rented a car. There was plenty of parking space on both sides of the road in front of the hotel.

I chose the Bolongo Bay Beach resort as the destination for my honeymoon and took the 'room only' package for financial purposes. After two days, it became clear the resort was highly overpriced and limited for food options. Additionally, the resort requires you to pay an additional $100 deposit for 'incidentals.' The events around the resort appeared poorly planned as the events schedule listed two separated sailing events for 9/30 while organizers stated they were on 9/31. My second issue was the poorly maintained beach (broken glass bottles, cigarette butts). Third, the resort as a whole is outdated (no central air, just individual units; no ventilation in bathrooms; no onsite laundry). Additionally, several events such as sailing to St. John and Carnival night were not free even for 'all inclusive.' My wife and myself loved the island and will return; however, we will be choosing another resort/hotel.

My husband and I had a great time at Bolongo! The staff was fantastic, food was great, and there was plenty of things to entertain us throughout our stay. We choose the all inclusive option which was a great deal- we definitely got our money's worth! A la carte dining was delicious at lobster grill and iggy's was a great lunch choice. Our one-year-old son especially liked the lobster bisque at the lobster grill. We also had a great time paddle boarding and trying all the other water sports that were included. The only thing you need to remember before heading down is some water proof shoes for the very rocky water. It's still beautiful but can be quite painful. Overall- this trip was just what we wanted- relaxing, beautiful, delicious, and very laid back! Thank you bolongo bay!

I just returned home from a seven day stay at this resort --It was a fabulous vacation--the closeness of the beach (Megans Bay walking distance) the cleanliness of the resort --the staff --day trips--the spa--the pool-- all top notch I will definately be a return guest. The little general store there just opened on Friday and I was impressed with the owner and the stock --I found member services helpful, accessable, and friendly the front desk crew was also top notch as was the housekeeping staff. They have a spa on site which has just about everything you could want from a spa. The tennis courts were open and the pool was absolutely grand! I would reccomend this resort to anyone who loves the water and all the activities it offers.

The service was very good with the amazing positive and kind attitude of the staff a definite plus. We really enjoyed the Club Lounge which was both an oasis and a source of in-between snacks or meal replacements. Our suite was also quite comfortable. I didn't care for the fact that they watered down the hallways daily and there was some miscommunication on some excursions and external dinner arrangements. Quite a lot of kids, so better for families than romantic couples - we opted for a private cabana on the beach. Finally, note that this hotel is a bit of a hike from the downtown and shopping areas of St Thomas.

For the amount we payed I was disappointed and would recommend staying elsewhere. We arrived at around 1 pm and was told that our room was not ready and would be done in an hour. At 2 pm we were told that our room would not be ready until 4! The shuttle that was suppose to run every hr didn't come for two hrs. After taking us to the bigger hotel apparently it broke down and was not running the for the rest of our stay. The best thing I can say about this hotel is that the AC works well and it's very close to the airport. The island is beautiful so we will be returning but I will not be returning to stay at this hotel.

Just a dated hotel. There is, as my 7 year old put, a 'fake beach'. There's a sandy area next to the bay, but no beach. The pool was ok... water a bit cloudy. During the night, water was leaking in from someplace near the closet and traveled down the grout lines of the tile. It pooled a bit by my daughter's suitcase, so it was wet. It also was in the area leading to the bathroom, so as I went to go into the bathroom, I slipped and fell. I notified the person at the desk and she said she'd send someone to clean it up, but I already did so that no one else in my family would fall.

I'm an owner and spent my 3rd week here at the end of October. The rooms are very nice. We have a 2 bedroom, both of which are roomy with adjacent bathrooms and balconies. The Living Room/Dining Room/Kitchen are in the middle of the unit, providing additional privacy between the bedrooms if needed. I do recommend renting a car. I had no problem with driving on the left side (just remember to stay close to the left side of the road). The steering wheel is situated as in mainland US. There are plenty of taxis to get you where you want to go, but a car may be more economical. We paid $80 in taxi fees for 4 people to go out to dinner. We only did it so we didn't have to be concerned if we drank. The beach at the Cove is nice, but you need to be careful of sea urchins. To the right of the dock, there are rocks near the beach that you need to get over to get to where it's sandy under the water. This is where I had an encounter with a sea urchin. It's sandier on the left side of the dock. ...

Stayed in Nov of 2009.The setting is beautiful and the villas are exceptional. Well equiped and spacious. Food is very expensive but with the kitchenette we were able to fix some meals in the room. The location is secluded and private but that can also be a problem with transportation. Suggest renting a car but be prepared to drive on the left side. With it being still under construction going back and forth to the hotel will be more converient in days to come. There will be carts to transport guests. In some of the eateries the menus were very limited but the portions were huge and very tasty. We will definitely go back.

So, I never write reviews but felt compelled to write this in hopes of saving someone else the money/headache. I had a destination wedding of about 15 people at Caneel Bay (at Turtle Bay) in August 2013 and the service was shockingly terrible. My previous experience with Rosewood (and the amount of money I was spending) led me to believe that it would be upscale/nice but instead, the staff was rude, lazy, and honestly, kind of mean. And- note that most of the rooms do not have phones in them, which causes a myriad of issues (for example the night before my wedding we wanted room service so my fiance had to walk around the resort searching for a 'phone station' to call in our order). Although we asked (and offered to pay more for) a large/nice room (because the bridesmaids would be getting ready there), we were put in a tiny room with no phone. Finally, after asking twice more once we got there, we were switched to a larger room (after being treated like they were doing us a favor and a...

My husband and I plan a get-a -way each year for our anniversary. We chose Caneel Bay Resort because it was steps away from the ocean waters. We like no phones, internet, or out side world. Or room had a fantastic view with warm breezes blowing through our room, with the sound of the ocean waves. We stayed in Hawks Nest which is breezier than the otherbeaches at Caneel Bay. It had excellent snorkeling. We always found sea turtles to swim with, sting rays, starfish, and many fish! The food was extremely expensive! A fish and chips dinner at the beachside bar and grill was $65.00, without drinks or dessert.! Service was horrible. There was none. We left no tip, because we had no known waiter that greeted us, took our order, or even removed a menu from our table after we gave our own order. The Sugar Mill Restaurant was good service and food was exceptional. Again dinner on the average with no drinks or dessert will run you between $85.00-$120.00. Brunch that was offered each morning was...

The location and price can't be beat

Well...the bed was a full size and very uncomfortable. When you moved around or got up of the bed you could hear the springs go 'sproing'! We kept looking to see if they popped out! The bathroom was miniscule...no shampoo, no washclothes or hand towel

We chose this hotel for one night. Came late...left early. Any more time than that we would have definitely made another choice.
