The hotel was very beautiful and clean, and the location couldn't have been better for the purpose of our visit. Enjoyed the visit overall.
All of our room requests were ignored. We asked for a quiet room with one queen sized bed. This was confirmed at more than one point, including when we checked in at the front desk. However, we received a room with two full-sized beds. Not a huge deal, but why ask if it's going to be disregarded? Also, our room was street side and thus very noisy all night. When we tried to call the front desk from the hotel phone in our room, it kept forwarding us to a message center, so we never got to talk to a real person. Despite these things, we enjoyed our stay overall.
You can hear everything from near room. Staff is not helpfull.
Excellent service from the staff, room was very clean and comfortable. I was very pleased and would most definitely return.
Very friendly and accommodating staff. They won't hover over you to constantly check up on you (which I find annoying). If you look lost or like you need something, they ask or offer you help. They are there for whatever you may need. For the size of this hotel, the staff was very transparent - no bumping into room service or valet workers or anything. And there was always someone available for any need - they run things very efficiently. Lots of amenities offered. The restaurants looked inviting even though we ate elsewhere all weekend. Can't comment on the internet service. Elevators are very fast as long as they don't have to stop
Valet parking is in fact $57 per night with in and out service but there are ways to park cheaper in the garage next to the hotel where they'd put your car anyways. Updates to the rooms and hotel are mostly nice but not perfect. There was some very obvious water damage to the walls under the windowsills in our room. Trying to catch one of the 2 tiny elevators at a busy time can suck. If everybody is waiting for the already full elevators, chances are they will stop on almost every floor on the way down even though there is no more room. Have to keep in mind that this is a very old hotel and there likely isn't room for larger elevators.
Location, location & location. And cleanliness
Staff, they need to learn more about customer service.
Unfriendly staff Having to request ice No coffeemaker No easy access to coffee
Great location, clean, comfortable bed, quiet, friendly staff. Would stay there again.
No in room coffee, no ice machines or vending machines. Parking was $65 per day.
Location and small hotel
I booked the Whitehall because I found an amazing deal for a standard king bed, when we arrived the front desk clerk was so sweet to us! she asked why we were staying at their hotel, and I mentioned it was a surprise date for my boyfriends graduation from college and acceptance to grad school and she upgraded us to a junior suite for free!!!! It was amazingly spacious and comfortable. They were so kind and were willing to upgrade us without hesitation. The room was clean and it was great to have bath robes and an umbrella we could use during the rain and thunderstorms at night while still enjoying the city!
The bed was squeaky whenever we rolled over in the night, but it was really comfortable despite that. I can't complain for the free upgrade to a suite!
Felicia, one of the managers, went above and beyond to accommodate my family and me. Their customer service was beyond measure especially compared to other hotels in the area. I am very grateful for their professionalism and courtesy and I will recommend this hotel simply due to their customer service. Hotel is newly remodeled and gorgeous as well. But your people make your stay. Bravo felicia and Whitehall staff! Thank you!
Nothing to improve
Online check in.
My online check in preferences were not followed. TV didn't work.
It was a great location. Walking distance from Trains, shopping, restaurants. The staff was very helpful with any needs.
From entry to exit, the place was great. Cordial staff, comfortable amenities and a relaxing atmosphere. There's a good chance that I'll return.
The location is perfect and the room was very comfortable.
The front desk staff was less than polite and the corridors, hallways, lobby were outdated and disappointing at best.
Elevators not working.
Location was good, rooms were decorated nicely and had been updated. Was the cheapest of the 4 star hotels by $40 and we needed two rooms so we saved almost $100. Great rooms if you're traveling alone.
We've stayed at almost every 4 and 5 star hotel in Chicago so we have a lot to compare this to. Whitehall by far is the worst of the best. Service was average, didn't feel like the employees truly cared about our experience but were just going trough the motions of what they were told to do. Minibar was super annoying, it had a lock on it that could only be unlocked remotely by the front desk and when we called to ask they couldn't do it bc they were busy with another customer and then forgot altogether. It also auto charges when you touch anything, even just placing our son's milk into the fridge caused a charge. A 4 star hotel should eliminate these types of annoyances. Rooms are very snug and beds are queen size.
Bed was comfortable.
Lobby. Entrance. Didn't seem completely updated with finest finishes. Bathrooms and other parts needed updating.
Location was right in the heart of Chicago.
Overpriced and overcharged for everything!
