Guilin is one of the most visited Chinese cities located in the northeastern part of the
Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, which has been popular for ages for its famous limestone karst hills that were formed more than two-hundred-million years ago when the ocean receded from the area. These hills tower above the city forming a patchwork of paddy fields and streams that create a seductive landscape sure to stir the soul. Besides exploring the hills, tourists can also take a cruise down the Li River from Guilin to Yangshuo and explore some of the minority villages like Yao, Dong, and Miao to the northwest. The July heat can get a little unbearable so one should probably choose some other month to visit.
