Hagerstown is known as the Hub City thanks to the many roads and other transits that cross through it. It was founded in 1762 by Jonathan Hager, and invaded by the Confederate Army in 1864 ending with the Battle of Antietam. Places of interest include the Jonathan Hager House and Museum, the Emil A. Blackmore Museum, and Miller House. There are also lots of things for kids and those who are young at heart to see like the William Brish Planetarium and the the Train Room and Museum with its huge collection of pre-World War II Lionel trains, toys and other paraphanalia. For those interested in the arts, the Washington Museum of Fine Arts contains over six thousand works of art and the Maryland Symphony Orchestra is ready to sooth the savage beast with plenty of fine classical music.
