A member of the Joie de Vivre group, the Custom Hotel is the only boutique hotel in L.A within a one-mile radius of the airport and is the ideal L.A destination for travellers seeking a convenient location but who don't want to compromise in terms of quality.
A haven for the creative jetsetter
The Custom Hotel's air-conditioned rooms are each fitted with color-changing LED lights and offer expansive views of Playa del Rey and LAX. Each floor has its own unique graphic concept and amenities include a flat-screen LCD TV with on-demand movies and music and complimentary Wi-Fi in every room. Noise-canceling windows ensure that the hotel's guests enjoy a good night's sleep in the comfortable beds which are dressed with 300 thread count linens. The Deck 33 Bar & Restaurant allows guests the luxury of sipping house cocktails in the lounge, on the sundeck or by the poolside cabana. Environmentally friendly meeting rooms are available for business travelers concerned with their carbon footprint and the hotel offers a complimentary Mercedes shuttle to and from the airport.
Around the hotel
There is a golf course and a 28-lane bowling alley within walking distance of the hotel and the Pacific Ocean is just a mile away. The Forum and the Otis College of Art and Design are nearby and popular local eateries include the Hacienda del Ray and Thai Tulay.
It was close to the airport
Not kid friendly. My daughter got a spider bite. The pool was at the bar and they were drinking and smoking at the pool. The beds were very low to the ground and uncomfortable. There was two beds and a TV nowhere to sit or store things. No parking so we had to pay $30 a day for valet parking
Good location. Clean. Market and coffee shop very close. Street parking can be found 2 blocks away.
Bathroom door warped and wouldn't close. Sink drain clogged. Water drained too slow. Problem with key cards not working. Window lock too high, couldn't open window. Valet parking too expensive.
Great location - Very friendly and attentive staff - clean rooms.
Modern, Clean, Friendly Staff. I plan on staying here again, it is close to the airport with prompt call ahead airport pick-up/delivery.
Stayed here twice, two different rooms. Problems with shower plumbing in both rooms.
Comfortable and practical. Reminds me of small European hotels
Electrical outlet next to desk did not work. Cost to valet park the car was more expensive than my car rental at almost $30/day
My wife and I stayed at this hotel for five days. The hotel charged our credit card a $250 deposit for incidentals (which we never used) and never credited us back the money. We were told it would take 3-5 working days. After 5 days we called again and they said the policy was 5-7 working days and they had no record of us in the computer. We had a booking number but were never given a reciept. After 7 days we called again and were routed to Trent Allen's email. I see his name in reference to other bad reviews so I am not confident of getting our money back. The incidentals in the room are water and coffee, which hardly need a $50 deposit to cover them. This seems like a systematic scam in place to prey on international travellers.
nothing at all
When I arrived, the young girl at the front desk was helpful and friendly- she should be given a raise when especially considering the guy next to her didn't care to acknowledge me waiting while she checked in the people ahead of me. I got to the room at the end of the hall and the end of the hall smelled strongly of urine as if I had somehow managed to wrap a wet diaper around my nose. When I got into the room itself, it smelled even more like urine than the hallway and it was repulsive. The room itself was dirty. The walls, the bathroom, all dirty, rundown and overused - I felt like I was in a crack den for former Hollywood hot girls. Not even the stupid LED lights that they think would make the hotel seem more hip and trendy worked. In fact, not all of the lights in the room worked. I went to dinner and decided to change rooms when I got back. The next guy to help me at the front desk seemed annoyed that I had to change rooms, but did it anyways. The second room was better, cleaner, with working lights. Sleepy time came and I managed to crawl into the strangely low bed. I woke up to an enormous bug bite on my side that wasn't there when I had gone to bed. Moving forward with the morning since I need to get to work, I go to shower and dear God was that a challenge. The shower head sprayed in random directions like (insert inappropriate morning wood analogy) and the tub looked like it was once employed in a meth lab. i did what i could to get ready and got the hell out (hopefully without any stowaway critters in my belongings) never to return again; probably not even to redeem my free drink card (graciously given to me by the girl at the front desk) issued to me upon checkin. ***also- $30 for parking is salt and lemon in a very raw rash that this hotel will probably give you.
The location (between LAX and LMU) was impossible to beat for my trip. Cabs were cheap, I was able to walk from LMU to the hotel one afternoon, there were a couple of shops/restaurants nearby, and there was a Ralph's next door. The lotions/shampoos were nice. Bed was comfortable. I only really ever heard one airplane that seemed loud. Free shuttle to/from LAX. People at the front desk were very friendly. Mini fridge (empty) in the room for your use.
Nothing was "great", but everything was "good" or "fine". There is no in-room-dining, and there was some weirdness going on with the restaurant location. (I was told there was a private party, so they "moved the restaurant" to hanger 39 - a bar in the hotel.) The food was fine. Breakfast looked good, but was a bit pricy (not included), and I was running late, so I didn't try it.
We needed to stay in Westchester, we liked the vicinity of the hotel. Restaurants all in walking distance and golf is around the corner.
Hallways too dark. No dresser in room. Good try of updating hotel but it still felt outdated and old, plus it had an odd smell in the hallways. Would not return even for a few days.
Beds way to low. Elevators not working / slow. Overall condition of hotel C-
I liked the idea of staying here when I booked. That changed once I arrived.
The place looks shiny and newly remodeled. However, you can plainly tell that it used to be a dump, and it still slightly smells that way. The room was tiny and although it was decorated semi-nice, the layout shows that this is a crappy motel. Bathroom is cramped, shower is scary, the bed is on a futon type frame (real mattress wasn't bad), and the room was musty upon entry (blasting the AC made this a bit better). Also, they only have valet and street parking, if that matters to you.
Location and friendly staff.
Towels and bathroom were not clean. Room was poorly ventilated and had bad smell. Multisensory lighting as advertised were not working. Overall room and bathroom was very old, but just painted over to hide bad condition.
There nothing to do at all everything's old and outdated
Hip boutique hotel near LAX airport.
Only valet parking available for almost $30. Not disclosed until after booking.
Poor finish of decor, smell, aged elevators.
Moved us to a different room after we found bed bugs.
Asked for a quiet room multiple times (upon reservation, check-in) only to end up directly across (3 fee) from the cardio room. Even worse, found bed bugs in our filthy room. We are convinced they put us there because we purchased a pre-paid room via Kayak. The room they switched us to was so much cleaner.
The hotel is a short distance from two grocery stores and a number of restaurants.
The building itself is quite old and the rooms are poorly ventilated. The air quality was poor, windows could not be opened, and the air conditioning was barely operable. I switched to a different room but saw little improvement. While the furnishings are modern, there is a subdued decay to the whole place.
Tiny, stripped-down room with a low, platform bed.(!) Recently renovated, feels like an older hotel with small rooms trying to pass as designer- minimalist. And $22/night parking for this location? (Convenient only to the airport.) No thanks. There are more reasonable, comfortable hotels in Marina del Rey that are closer to the beach. Look elsewhere.
