Website
The Marseille Provence Airport (MRS), built in 1934, is one of the largest airports in the south of France, and serves as a premier starting point for European travel into North Africa. The airport services 30 regular airlines and 5 low-cost airlines, with direct routes to 91 cities in 37 countries. Annual traffic is on the order of 6 million passengers and 40,000 tons of cargo. There are two runways.
As Marseille is such a hub for travelers throughout the south of France, much long-distance ground transportation is available in the form of buses and trains. The airport is located about 27km northwest of the beachside city of Marseille. There are four terminals, one for domestic flights and two for international which are within walking distance of each other. The last one, mp2, was recently opened for low-cost airlines.
As a public establishment, the Marseille Provence Airport is a smoke-free zone. However, three smoking areas are available for smoking passengers: one in Hall 1 and two in Hall 4.
