There are a number of transportation options to get you to and from Oakland International Airport. Car rentals, shuttles, limos, taxis, and public transportation provide travelers with a number of option regardless of budget. OAK is about 10 miles from downtown Oakland; most trips take about 15-20 minutes. Downtown San Francisco is about 22 miles from OAK; travel times are about 35-40 minutes, depending on traffic.

Car Rental

The Rental Car Center (7600 Earhart Road) operates 24 hours a day. Free shuttle service operates all day (running every 10 minutes), although between 1:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m., shuttle service is "on-demand," so you'll have to contact your rental car company to get a ride. Public/Ground Transfer

Oakland and San Francisco are served by the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system www.bart.gov; 510-465-BART). BART trains run daily until midnight. Holiday schedules vary. Tickets are $3 and can be purchased at the Coliseum/Oakland Airport station.

AirBART shuttle service also runs daily until midnight, operating between the Coliseum/Oakland Airport Station and the airport itself about every 10 minutes with shuttle stops at both terminals. Fares are $3; discounted fares of $1 are available for seniors, disabled passengers, and children.

Airport Shuttles

There are numerous shuttle services that serve Oakland International Airport and the cities of Oakland and San Francisco and area suburbs. Oakland International Airport is served by two taxi services: Friendly (510-536-3000) and Veteran's (510-533-1900). Taxi service from the airport into Oakland runs about $30. Fares into San Francisco run about $55.
