I just returned home from a seven day stay at this resort --It was a fabulous vacation--the closeness of the beach (Megans Bay walking distance) the cleanliness of the resort --the staff --day trips--the spa--the pool-- all top notch I will definately be a return guest. The little general store there just opened on Friday and I was impressed with the owner and the stock --I found member services helpful, accessable, and friendly the front desk crew was also top notch as was the housekeeping staff. They have a spa on site which has just about everything you could want from a spa. The tennis courts were open and the pool was absolutely grand! I would reccomend this resort to anyone who loves the water and all the activities it offers.

The beachside restaurant was great. The pool was lovely and the staff were very accommodating. Would definitely stay here again.

we are time share owners at the Elysian Beach Resort (2 weeks) and go down every year . the management lacks any knowledge of just what vacationers want and expect when they arrive and stay there. 1st. they only have 69 rooms to rent so they are always overbooked. are weeks are deeded ,so we own the unit for 2 weeks every year sat to sat. this year we arrived on a sunday night and were told that they had put someone in OUR room and they would try and put us in another room. we got our room on monday. This properity used to be a RCI 5 star gold crown resort but no longer. it would be lucky to get 1 star. 2 resturants on prop. and both overpriced for what you get. if you don't have a car you are stuck there unless you take cab's everywhere, very expensive. if going to the USVI go to the Westin in St. John, cost more but worthevery penny

Great location, room was clean

Stairs, stairs, stairs, stairs. Lugging a heavy suitcase up to the top level left me breathless and sweaty. Im strong and healthy and still found it a challenge.

No phone (had to roam to call cab) had to stand outside room to access free wi-fi

The location and price can't be beat

Well...the bed was a full size and very uncomfortable. When you moved around or got up of the bed you could hear the springs go 'sproing'! We kept looking to see if they popped out! The bathroom was miniscule...no shampoo, no washclothes or hand towel

We chose this hotel for one night. Came late...left early. Any more time than that we would have definitely made another choice.

We went in June/July, and it's great for not feeling crowded.  The beach is a protected area, so there is a lot of wildlife (iguanas, ducks, chickens, sting rays, fish, etc.).  It's great for snorkeling, but not that great for swimming (there is a lot of seaweed).  We did not eat at the restaurants as we found them to be pricey.  There is great food right around the corner ($5 taxi ride) at Red Hook (also good shopping).  In riding around the island, we were glad we spent the extra money to come here instead of the other area resorts.  Apparently, a much needed upgrade to the hotel will happen this year.

This was our first vacation as a couple. While it cost more than we would have liked, it will be hard to recreate such a glorious vacation. The hotel as our daughter described it was a castle that a princess lived in, and my husband made sure I was treated like a princess. The restaurants were wonderful and full of delicious foods but be prepared to pay. We would highly recommend doing all inclusive as we had to think and plan each meal out, it would have been more relaxing had we done this. The beach was well staffed, clean sand, and lounge chairs that they had soft towels to lay on and each one had a shade for protection if needed. The pool was way too cold and the hot tub was filthy. There was not anything for nightlife at the resort but we traveled nearby to the other resorts for music and entertainment. It was something that I will cherish for the rest of my life.

The Hospitality and friendliness of the people and the staff.

The rooms were clean, but not enough items for like coffee, or making coffee , they had coffee makers, but no filters, or coffee packets in the rooms.

The site is a bit off the main roads, but the view was very nice. Office hours were 9 to 12am, however, to get assistance in the mornings sometimes not available. The motel says continental breakfast, the office where it was suppose to me I only seen it open for breakfast once. Pool was dirty and the walkways where tile and slippery you have to be careful going down to the lower rooms. You could get hurt if you are not careful.

Basically hotel was less than anticipated. We know what a 2 star hotel is but this shouldn't be rated that high.

photos are very misleading. In poor general condition, in definite need of repair. No bedding for 2nd bed. (shouldn't have to call for bedding)

Basically we knew the availability in Charlotte Amalie was tight do to Carnival and it drives prices up. However, this xxx room should never exceed xxx, even in the Caribbean.

There was no one there to check us in. They had to come from another resort to do that and it was 20to 30 min away. The key he brought didn't work he had to go get another. the TV stopped working the 4th day there and didn't come back on the rest of our

stay. I reported it and the lady said it will come back on. As stated before it didn't. The restaurants around the condos on Cowpet bay were way over priced. A roast beef sandwich and a salad were $65.00 etc. We were quite disappointed with St. Thomas and won't go back. The dishwasher, coffee pot didn't work. The air conditioner sounded like a wind tunnel.

What a beautiful location! This was perfect. Our Anchorage condo was in close proximity to the beach and to the St Thomas Yacht Club. I liked best was the very comfortable bed, the cleanliness of the room and the friendly and professional housekeeping.

I'm an owner and spent my 3rd week here at the end of October. The rooms are very nice. We have a 2 bedroom, both of which are roomy with adjacent bathrooms and balconies. The Living Room/Dining Room/Kitchen are in the middle of the unit, providing additional privacy between the bedrooms if needed. I do recommend renting a car. I had no problem with driving on the left side (just remember to stay close to the left side of the road). The steering wheel is situated as in mainland US. There are plenty of taxis to get you where you want to go, but a car may be more economical. We paid $80 in taxi fees for 4 people to go out to dinner. We only did it so we didn't have to be concerned if we drank. The beach at the Cove is nice, but you need to be careful of sea urchins. To the right of the dock, there are rocks near the beach that you need to get over to get to where it's sandy under the water. This is where I had an encounter with a sea urchin. It's sandier on the left side of the dock. ...

Stayed in Nov of 2009.The setting is beautiful and the villas are exceptional. Well equiped and spacious. Food is very expensive but with the kitchenette we were able to fix some meals in the room. The location is secluded and private but that can also be a problem with transportation. Suggest renting a car but be prepared to drive on the left side. With it being still under construction going back and forth to the hotel will be more converient in days to come. There will be carts to transport guests. In some of the eateries the menus were very limited but the portions were huge and very tasty. We will definitely go back.

The Marriot Frenchman's Reef and Morningstar resort are the best vacation properties near Charlotte Amalie. The views are amazing. I recommend paying a little extra to stay in the main tower and get an ocean view room. The resort is saafe to wander around any time of day or night. There are plenty of places to eat within walking distance,  but are a little spendy. Expect to be asked to sit through time share presentations. They're not pushy about it, but they do benefit from you attending them. There are plenty of neaches, snorkling, boat tours etc that they'll help you with if you are looking for adventure. Charlotte Amalie is full of duty free shopping. Great deals on on jewelry, perfume, tobacco and alcohol. Allow a long enough vacation to see all the sights.

I haven't been to the F.R in decades but all thoughts of going back have been removed by all the negative reviews. Looks like a 50/50 proposition. I can't understand why SOMEONE in management would allow these problems to continue. I guess we'll go to the Turks.

So, I never write reviews but felt compelled to write this in hopes of saving someone else the money/headache. I had a destination wedding of about 15 people at Caneel Bay (at Turtle Bay) in August 2013 and the service was shockingly terrible. My previous experience with Rosewood (and the amount of money I was spending) led me to believe that it would be upscale/nice but instead, the staff was rude, lazy, and honestly, kind of mean. And- note that most of the rooms do not have phones in them, which causes a myriad of issues (for example the night before my wedding we wanted room service so my fiance had to walk around the resort searching for a 'phone station' to call in our order). Although we asked (and offered to pay more for) a large/nice room (because the bridesmaids would be getting ready there), we were put in a tiny room with no phone. Finally, after asking twice more once we got there, we were switched to a larger room (after being treated like they were doing us a favor and a...

My husband and I plan a get-a -way each year for our anniversary. We chose Caneel Bay Resort because it was steps away from the ocean waters. We like no phones, internet, or out side world. Or room had a fantastic view with warm breezes blowing through our room, with the sound of the ocean waves. We stayed in Hawks Nest which is breezier than the otherbeaches at Caneel Bay. It had excellent snorkeling. We always found sea turtles to swim with, sting rays, starfish, and many fish! The food was extremely expensive! A fish and chips dinner at the beachside bar and grill was $65.00, without drinks or dessert.! Service was horrible. There was none. We left no tip, because we had no known waiter that greeted us, took our order, or even removed a menu from our table after we gave our own order. The Sugar Mill Restaurant was good service and food was exceptional. Again dinner on the average with no drinks or dessert will run you between $85.00-$120.00. Brunch that was offered each morning was...

For this price, I was expecting a 3.5 star rating resort. The view was great from the balcony (B-17) and the inside was spacious, but the restroom had ants and no toiletries (shampoo & conditioner). I was afraid from earlier reviews about bed bugs, but did not seem to have any problems. I was just put off by the old furnature and such.
