Car Rental

Three rental car companies have offices across the street from Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Advantage Rent-A-Car, Budget, and Thrifty are all found on the airport grounds making it easy for passengers to arrange a car rental. Dollar and National have offices by they are down the road and require shuttle service to reach. Alamo, Avis, and Hertz also have offices in town, but they are about two miles from the airport on Highway 1.

In Mexico, no special license is needed to drive, by Mexican insurance is required. Roads are often more narrow than in the U.S., so drivers will need to slow down and use caution when sharing the road with other cars. One other issue that often comes up is the presence of cattle and animals that are on the highways. Drivers should slow down (speed limit on Highway 1 is about 45 mph) because it is extremely common for cattle to have free range on both sides of the highways.

Public/Ground Transfer

There currently is no public bus service that goes directly to the airport. Those who want to take the public bus must first walk out to Highway 1 and catch the bus there. The bus runs every fifteen minutes and costs around $1 per person. All bus service ends at 10:30pm.

Airport Shuttles

The airport works with a company called Transbaja Shuttles to provide safe, affordable transportation for all airport passengers. The shuttles can be booked on line using Paypal. The shuttle drivers are bilingual and will not push passengers into time share offers like area taxi and bus drivers are known to do in order to get a kick-back from the time share companies.

Transbaja Shuttles are located right in the airport. Their shuttle vans can carry any sized party, offer private rates or group rates, and can provide passengers with wheel chair lifts, child seats, and more. This is the best and safest way to reach the area resorts and hotels.

Taxi Services

Passengers should be cautious when using taxis to or from the airport. Taxis to Cabos San Lucas tend to be extremely expensive (around $60 to $90 USD) and drivers rarely speak English further confusing the situation. Often English speaking taxi drivers work closely with area time share companies and will push time share ownership on their passengers because they get a percentage of the sale if they are successful. The airport strongly advises against taxi service in the area and instead urge passengers to use the airport website to book the Transbaja shuttles before arriving.
