Dublin has always been known as a safe destination, however as with any large city there are reports of petty theft of the rise. Make sure you keep pocketbooks and wallets secure and use good common sense when visiting. There has also been a rash of cycle thefts in and about the Dublin area. If you will be traveling on two-wheels the best recommendation is to not only lock up your bike, but also remove a wheel or the seat to deter any would be thief. « hide

Although Dublin has been often named one of the safest capitals in Europe, a heroin epidemic did slam into the Emerald Isle a few years back, bringing with it the common crimes associated with drug pushers and abusers. There have been sever coalitions in place over recent years to put an end to the drug prone areas. These groups are reporting great success but there are still spots travelers should try to avoid. The North Inner City and South Inner City both of which are 5- minute walks from the tourist filled center of Dublin paint a far darker picture of Dublin.
