A region set amongst fjords and glaciers, Queenstown, where much of the gorgeous scenery from the "Lord of the Rings" scenery was filmed, does indeed seem like it is somehow removed from the rest of Earth. The majestic, heart-stopping, and savage nature in the countryside is perfect for extreme sports-lovers. Whitewater boarding (where one uses a surfboard instead of a raft to travel downstream), base-jumping, skiing, bungee-jumping, and of course, hiking and climbing, are among the favorite extreme-sport activities readily available in Queenstown. Queenstown has excellent shopping, restaurants, cafes, and clubs as well.
