As the furthest island from mainland Holland, Vlieland is, in every sense of the word, a getaway. Cars are not allowed on the island (unless you live there), so visitors can enjoy a relatively unspoiled landscape filled with beaches, dunes and forests, ideal for outdoor activities, including a trip to Vliehors nature preserve. The island's only village, Oost-Vlieland, has some sights worth visiting, such as the church and Tromp's Huys museum. Oost-Vlieland is also where visitors go to find the majority of restaurants and nightlife. If you spend the night, you have a variety of cottages and hotels from which to choose.
