FAQs - booking Kinshasa flights

  • What public transportation services are on offer from Kinshasa Airport?

When you land at the airport you may need to take conventional public transportation to the city. Apart from taxis there are two ways to ensure you get there. Public commuter trains leave regularly from the airport and will go into the city as well as Transo buses, which have a bus stop right outside the terminals of the airport. It is recommended that you opt for taxis if you have a lot of luggage as the buses and trains are often over-crowded at rush hour. The taxi ride will average between 5000 CDF and 10000 CDF (around 2-5 GBP) one way.

  • Is there a smoking area at Kinshasa Airport?

There is no official designated smoking area on either airside or landside of the terminals at Kinshasa Airport. With the airport being so small, it is quite easy to pop outside when you are still landside and have a cigarette. Once you are passed baggage check-in and waiting airside there will unfortunately be no smoking allowed. Many of the Democratic of Congo’s hotels have a no-smoking policy, so check beforehand if you would like to find smoking accommodation.

  • Are there any airport lounges in Kinshasa Airport?

Yes, Kinshasa Airport has two VIP Saloon Okapi and VIP Commercial Lounge. VIP Saloon Okapi costs $25 (around £18) for entry, and VIP Commercial Lounge costs around $35 (around £25). Both offer complimentary alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and you'll also receive free Wi-Fi access (which isn't available in the rest of Kinshasa Airport).

  • Are there any airport hotels at Kinshasa Airport?

Currently, no; Kinshasa Airport isn't open between the hours of 00:00 and 06:00, so it does not currently have any on-site hotels. However, there are some hotels that are a little closer to the airport than Kinshasa itself (around 35-45min compared to around one hour), for example the Beatrice Hotel or the Hotel Royal Kinshasa.

  • What's the quickest way to get from Kinshasa Airport into Kinshasa?

If you want to ensure you get to your hotel in Kinshasa as quickly as possible after your long flight, we recommend that you take a taxi. Official taxis are available outside Kinshasa's terminal buildings; the official taxis affiliated with the airport are blue and yellow. It costs around $20-$50 (£14-£36) depending on traffic and which part of the city you're travelling to, and it's a good idea to negotiate your fare with the driver before you get into the taxi.

  • What food options do I have in Kinshasa Airport?

You have multiple choices. Airside, Kinshasa Airport has a small cafeteria and some shops, and landside it has a full restaurant, so you'll be able to grab something to eat if you're hungry when you land. Please note that the airport food options can sometimes be on the pricey side compared to food choices outside, so if you are travelling on a tight budget you may want to look around for your best budget-friendly options.

  • How far is Kinshasa from central Kinshasa?

There are 11 miles between Kinshasa city centre and Kinshasa.

  • What is the name of Kinshasa’s airport?

Kinshasa is served by Kinshasa, also commonly referred to as Kinshasa Intl, N'Djili Intl, or N'djili. The airport code is FIH.

  • How does KAYAK find such low prices on flights to Kinshasa?

KAYAK is a travel search engine. That means we look across the web to find the best prices we can find for our users. With over 2 billion flight queries processed yearly, we are able to display a variety of prices and options on flights to Kinshasa.

  • How does KAYAK's flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy my flight ticket to Kinshasa?

KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool uses historical data to determine whether the price for a flight to Kinshasa is likely to change within 7 days, so travellers know whether to wait or book now.

  • What is the Hacker Fare option on flights to Kinshasa?

Hacker Fares allow you to combine one-way tickets in order to save you money over a traditional round-trip ticket. You could then fly to Kinshasa with an airline and back with another airline.

  • What is KAYAK's "flexible dates" feature and why should I care when looking for a flight to Kinshasa?

Sometimes travel dates aren't set in stone. If your preferred travel dates have some wiggle room, flexible dates will show you all the options when flying to Kinshasa up to 3 days before/after your preferred dates. You can then pick the flights that suit you best.

  • While the official language of the Democratic Republic of Congo is French, airport staff can speak English to any passengers flying into Kinshasa. The airport is well-signed in English too, making travel easy for many passengers.

  • Kinshasa International Airport (FIH) is the main airport serving the Congo; other airports (such as Goma International Airport (GOM)) don't serve many international routes. If you want to travel to a different area of the Congo served by one of its other airports, we recommend that you fly to Kinshasa then take a connecting flight.
  • If you're staying in a hotel in Kinshasa, we recommend that you check whether they offer a hotel shuttle service from the airport; it's fairly common for Kinshasa hotels to offer airport pickups for up to $50 (around £36).
  • If you don't want to rely on public transport while you're in Kinshasa, it could be a good idea to hire a car; you can rent your car through KAYAK when you book your flight, then pick it up in the airport when you land. You'll see the car hire desks once you've passed baggage pickup and entered the Arrivals Hall.
  • The official currency in Kinshasa is the Congolese Franc, but US dollars are also accepted almost everywhere. We recommend that you withdraw US dollars for larger items (as notes under $5 aren't accepted), and keep some Congolese Francs on you for smaller items. You can withdraw US dollars and Francs from ATMs in Kinshasa.

Did not find the wheelchair that supposed to assist and went to a long queue for transit security chk which was very slow and boarding desk wanted to close counter although that they knew that I am minutes away because of their mistake of not providing the wheelchair.

I have used Air France and KLM many times it will help if they change their menu's feel like it's been the same for years!!!, Especially the breakfast. Overall the flight was good and enjoyable.

No bording was given for next trip on same carrier, food was very moderate.

Crew was professional. Boarding has few seats . Since the plane was not full would have been nice to change seat on the internet

Je n'ai pas pû incliner mon siège et une des hôtesses ne comprenait pas ce que je disais. Je devais parler fort

their gluten free lactose meal is the best, I have never been satisfied with my flight meals. I definitely enjoyed my flight and the chair is very spacious for economy. I'm so glad Delta is my flight way back to NY.

My seat was so uncomfortable, and the headrest was broken. Very very disappointing for the price I paid.

Please serve no god if you must serve dog food

The hard product, food, and service are far superior to their North American counterparts

Cons: "Boarding was a disaster as my companion was selected for random search which held us up as there was no urgency to process us. Then there was no sign for where we should go since upper deck on 747 so we went in "economy" line as indicated on ticket and then was sent to correct line when we got to the front, wasting more time. The seatrs were the most uncomfortable I have ever beeon on for a long flight. I also paid extra to be in the exit row, to have people constantly congregating in front of us.The food was also mediocre."

Just on time arrival and departure would make it great

Quality of service on board was very inconsistent. FA service primarily seemed robotic and they barely engaged with passengers

First class payment but wife’s seat broken, would recline but not lay flat. On previous flight, delays and ground crew malfunctions connecting jetway made us miss flight to Houston. I asked twice for a cart to assist us getting across the massive Istanbul Airport, but was denied. We are both over 70.

A good airline, but at checking in, they allocated seats for my wife, and I far away from each other, and to change them, they wanted a payment, such a bad policy, it leaves a bitter taste in the mouth All was good on the plane, good food, but the air hostess was abrupt and a bit rough dealing with the passengers, but one has to find excuses for staff working under pressure

I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with the recent flight experience I had with your airline. This has been one of the worst travel experiences I have ever encountered, and I feel compelled to bring it to your attention. Firstly, I missed my flight due to what I perceive to be a lack of clear communication and coordination on the part of your staff. There was no remorse or apology from the airline's representatives, which further exacerbated the situation. As a result of missing my flight, I was subjected to a 24-hour delay at the airport, where I had to spend a significant amount of money to rent a hotel room and cover other incidental expenses. Additionally, since my baggage was already checked in from Tanzania to Turkey, I had to purchase essential items for the 24-hour period. What truly dismayed me, however, was the discourteous and unprofessional attitude of your staff. Their lack of empathy and understanding only added to the stress and inconvenience of the situation. I have been traveling abroad for over 20 years, and I can confidently say that this experience has been the worst I have ever encountered. As a result, I am compelled to reconsider ever using your airline again for future travel. I strongly urge you to address the issues I have raised and take immediate steps to rectify the situation. Additionally, I expect a formal apology and a refund for the expenses I incurred due to the airline's negligence.

Flight canceled and then “uncanceled” after I booked are placement. I had to pay for both a Turkish Air doesn’t admit their mistake

Food not good, flight attendants not the best, not accommodating very ruff

Friendly crew. Computer systems had trouble keeping my Star Alliance status linked to my reservation. Inflight Wi-Fi was slow and expensive. No standard power outlet, but medium-power USB-C port slowly charged my laptop. No option to buy whisky in economy.

It was a terrible airline. The air hostess and the people in the flight, just very rude.

Pathetic flight. No inflight entertainment and seats were very cramped

The flight was one hour late. The food is mediocre and the screen was broken

Seat in front of my wife was broken so it reclined further than normal and without having to push the recline button so my wife had absolutely no room the entire 17 hour flight. My seat was broken and wouldn't recline at all. Also.. my tray table was sticky and dirty right away before I even used it. Also...the floor in the back of the plane from our row of seats on back was totally soaked and both times we landed water came rushing out of the food/servant area like a flood onto the same already wet carpet. It got everything wet that was placed around our feet...including our shoes and socks.

Luggage delayed for one day. I called customer service, and they had no info and no empathy. Boarding was very disorganized and chaotic. We went nearly 7 hours with no food or snacks on the flight. This is not an airline that has respect for its passengers.

it was a nice tripe but they need to work on the serving of soda, they should be abled to serve cain soda not on cup.At least each passenger should be entitled to one cain of soda not serving on cup.thanks.

On my return flight the TV did not work the entire flight! They knew it wasn’t working but they let me sit there. The guy sitting nièce to me told me he was ok the previous flight and it wasn’t working. This is business class by the way!

Same but worse than international. The inter African flights are worse.

Entertainment was very poor. Couldn’t watch anything. Ear pieces were the wrong type .

Food was horrible. Our flight was not comfortable due to turbulence, seats was not comfortable, Very tight barely can not move anywhere.

The check in staff was amazing. Best customer service! The plane was old! My entertainment on the first flight didn't work at all, in my seat or in the seat next to me. The bathroom doors were old and troublesome. One of the bathrooms, the whole sink panel was broken. Everything felt old and falling apart. The airline stewardesses were amazing and quite hospitable. When there were delays, they kept us well informed. Transit was GREAT! I wasn't sure how I would make it to my next flight in 1 1/2 hours but the security lines were short and efficient. The C gates in Addis Ababa were CROWDED! That whole space downstairs was too crowded and challenging to manuever. I usually fly Ethiopian within Africa and was interested to see how the experience would be intercontinental. Overall, I would choose it again if it was cheaper than Delta/Air France or Lufthansa/KLM. I wouldn't make it a first choice if the prices were the same because the planes are so old! The food and entertainment also weren't as good. Good selection of movies but as I mentioned, on the first flight they didn't work at all (I slept so it was okay) and the 2nd flight it was glitchy. All in all, I didn't hate it but it would be a first choice only if it's cheaper.

The wifi service was really poor I try to use it the service was extremely poor if that could be improved that will go a long way

Food quality is deteriorating each time, last year was very good. I avoid the plane food lately.

Been flying on various airlines, all over the world, for 50+ years. The food on Brussels Air was easily the worst I ever endured.

I felt the overall quality of the plane and food service was less than that of their partner airlines, United. An example was wine was served in paper cups in premium economy class. There was no real silverware, napkins or a welcome kit other than a pillow and blanket.

Boarding time was a bit slow causing the flight to not leave right at 5 pm,but other than that it was fine.

I like the frequent mails we get when there is an update. Please keep it up

I have traveled to probably over a hundred locations worldwide, but had only one mixup of airport in Shanghai. Until Iceland and Stockholm. Reykjavik has 2 airports, Stockholm 4 (!). Please indicate clearly when a departure flight is scheduled from an aiport other than the international aiport. That would greatly reduce stress. Thanks

in the front - higher class of business - sitting in the same seat (with one empty in the middle) is not acceptable any more. need the business class to be as we paid for.

More than one hour detail with no explanation and no compensation

my husband's monitor did not work. there was a visibly ill family in my husband's row.

we had to unexpectedly check a bag, the flight was late getting in

Paid an extra USD 100 for so-called Comfort seats. All of these (the bulkhead seats) had parents with babies and infants who were screaming much of the time. One mother even decided to change nappies on the seat. This was anything but comfort!

Front section of economy cabin is better than rear. Paid for seats selected.

Apart from delay of 3 hrs in Nairobi for onward flight to Dar all fine. Looked like operational issues caused it.

I booked a round trip flight and boarded a Kenya Airways trip from New York (JFK) to Nairobi (JKIA). First flight from New York to Nairobi was uneventful with no issues. However, the return flight was beyond disappointing. To begin with I had paid an extra $60 each for premium seats (me and my wife) in economy aisle 15 (B & A). However, upon settling down in the middle seat, I noticed that the controller had been ripped off meaning I would not have access to some of the seat functionalities like the individual lighting etc. I proceeded to alert a flight attendant that the controller was missing and she politely responded to me by telling me if I need anything, to use my wife’s seat controller (on the window seat) to call for assistance and I would be assisted accordingly. I was surprised by the response that she gave as it felt like my comfort and request for a service that I paid for was undermined, but nonetheless I opted to play it nice and kept my calm. After this I engaged in a conversation with a passenger (Caucasian / White male) who sat next to me on the aisle seat. In the process of having this conversation I asked him if he had paid for his seat. He went ahead to politely tell me that he had been moved from a seat in the back by one of the flight attendants and had not paid any extra fees. During this conversation, he noticed that the charging docks were not working and he needed to charge his iPad to watch his Netflix show (it was on pause). Alarmed by this, he went ahead and flagged one of the flight attendants who without wasting any time acted astonished and as fast as lightning was able to find him a better seat a few rows in front. Please note, all the charging plugs were not working for the three seats. In summary, below are the reasons for the low rating: 1. Charging for a broken seat: Kenya Airways should not charge for a defective seat. If a seat is defective and is paid for, the airlines should work out a way to either refund the customer or move the customer to a better seat – regardless of skin color. 2. Below Par Customer Service: Do not debilitate a customer’s request especially when a paid for service is not delivered – regardless of skin color. Assuming that I am comfortable with having to either keep alerting the flight attendant or relying on my wife’s seat to perform some of the functionality I may need is ridiculous. 3. Biasness / Inequality / Prejudiced Behavior: The Caucasian/ White male was treated with more favor. Not only was he moved around to make sure he was comfortable (free of charge) but all his complaints were resolved immediately without any hesitance. On the contrary, I being a black man of African descent who had paid an additional premium for his seat, I was completely ignored and told to settle for what I got.

Excellent. They canceled our flight & put us up for the night. Then upgraded us. We are impressed

The flight staff were not very kind. I went back to get a drink, 4 of them back there chatting. They all looked at me continued to talk then they started doing stuff and one finally asked after I was standing there awhile what I needed. This happened multiple times. The movies were not the great and seemed dated. My seat squeaked every time I moved and it moved around a bit.

The flight attendants on this flight were incredible! One even gave me her own dinner when my special meal order wasn’t transferred due to a flight delay! She insisted and I was so grateful. That is going above and beyond! The issue I had with the flight was with Lufthansa support. I missed my connection due to a flight delay and they wouldn’t rebook online, only in person. This took a lot of time and visits to the airport waiting for a Lufthansa agent to arrive 5 hours later than posted and almost paying full-fare price for the new flights and refusal to add my special meal orders. It made for a challenging journey home and I didn’t feel valued as a customer.

Great job in making sure that the customer is always having a great time

I think is one of the greatest most professional airlines I’ve flown with. So sustainable as well!!! The business class is top notch!!!

The flight never took off. We sat on the tarmac for over two hours due to an electrical fault and finally the flight was cancelled. We were told that hotels would be organised but there was no further communication. In the end I retrieved my baggage and went to the car park to pick up my car and drive home. It cost me over £150 to park the car for two weeks, plus of course petrol, and over £600 for the four flights and £50 for the travel visa. All gone up in my smoke. I’m bitterly disappointed that my business Trip was cancelled and have been told I will get a “partial refund” within three months!!! What a way to treat a customer.
