Camara de Lobos is a picturesque fishing village on the Portuguese island of Madeira. The town was named the 'Chamber of Wolves' due to its unique bay formation and the large amount of 'sea wolves' (sharks) that once inhabited the area. Chestnut soup and limpets are among the local specialties, as well as the Camara de Lobos codfish known as 'gata'. The local wine of Madeira is of exceptional quality and should not be missed on Camara de Lobos holidays. Visitors can take a day trip to the nearby city of Funchal to surf, dive or swim with dolphins.
