I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived Henry David Thoreau
“With such a burning desire I would like my friends here for just a moment in order to enjoy the view we have in front”.
It is what Goethe wrote in his “Tagebuch” (his Diary) looking at the “delicious picture which is the Garda Lake, rewarded to have lengthened the trip”. And it is what we wish every guest will feel admiring the superb view he can enjoy from the terrace where our house is built.
The Garda Lake has always been a meeting point at European level. Thanks to its sweet climate and to the beauty of the surroundings it is – for people coming from Northern Europe – the first scent of Mediterranean feeling.
The Farm is located at the bottom of the Rocca Vecchia (Old Rock), the rocky spur raising vertically on the Lake between Bardolino and Garda, at the borders of Monte San Giorgio where you can find the Benedictin Monastery of Camaldolesi (Eremo), from which the Farm takes the name.
The Rocca Vecchia has been since prehistory inhabited and cultivated. There are traces from paleolitic times, remains of medieval walls and also trenches of the two World Wars dug by civilians and soldiers to hide themselves.
The birth of the name GARDA is probably back to VI century as “place of guard” or “vedette”.
In fact from the top of the plateau you can see the entire Lake and once it was to control the passage of boats.
The house is in a very quiet place over the Lake and it is possible to admire a wonderful view. In 1973 the Corsini family bought a part of the building once belonged to a noble family of the area.
A rampart of quietness and peace, protected by the majesty of the Rocca Vecchia , in a marvellous position, almost unique overlooking the Lake, which can be reached in few minutes.
Fauna and flora undisturbed are the pleasure of the visitor who can observe a couple of hawks overflying their hunting area, squirrels taking provision of nuts acorns, cheered up by finches, great titmouses, skylarks and nightingales. In the night owls make hear their voice far away. While walking you can find spoors of badgers, foxes, pheasants, many species of birds and sometimes – in winter – also of roe-bucks looking for fresh grass.
The Farm belongs to the family since thirty years and produces BARDOLINO CLASSICO wine, an extra-pure oil among the most esteemed in Italy, the Garda one, very light. It is surrounded by very nice woods where you can walk and through which it is possible to reach the Camaldolesi Monastry, a place of peace and meditation for more than a millennium, where few Benedictin priests pray.
The 10 acres are cultivated with vineyards producing a very good Bardolino, 300 olive trees and a vast wood with many phaesants, squirrels, finches, foxes and many other animals enjoying the peace of the Natural Park recently protected at European level.
The Relais is an old farm dated two centuries ago. Last building before the protected Natural Park of the “Rocca del Garda”, standing out just in front of its twin “Rocca di Manerba” on the western side. The two fortresses controlled the merchant boats on the Lake.
The renovation of the house has been done by a famous architect of Verona, interiors are design of the 70s and 80s together with lots of souvenirs from the Family’s trips abroad, giving a flavour of happy and friendly atmosphere. This is the spirit welcoming the guests and the same saying goodbye. Because it is never a farewell, it’s a goodbye.
The house – wisely restored in the 70s – has been reconstructed exactly as it was recovering old bricks and wooden rooftrees. Natural colours dominate the interior decoration. The light wooden furniture have been studied and built for this house, created to welcome a big family and many friends. The big ash table in the dining-room can host up to 20 persons, there is also a very big and comfortable sofa and a enormous rainbow on the main wall realized by the architect who furnished the house.
An very big fireplace in red marble of Verona, nowadays impossible to realize, warms the winter evenings.
Lamps and design objects are mixed with those coming from al lover the world, living a note of colour and warmth and taste of the travels and life of the Family.
The house is on three levels. The last one is the house of the landlady while the first floor – where you an find a large living room – is at the disposal of the guests. At the first floor the rooms with bathroom, characterized by furniture of the 70s design.
The rooms are 4, two of them on the back yard looking on the vineyards, and other two on the front with a marvellous view of the Lake.
The rooms have private bathroom, fan, hair dryer and a cattle for tea, very much appreciated by tourists coming back always so tired!
The living room is at the guests disposal where they can find:
FRIDGE with beverages
