10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location and room was perfect, exactly what I was looking for, and what was offered. The room I saw was the room I got, and our host was welcoming and charming. The food and coffee was great, and everything in the room worked.
Cons: The in-room fridge was a little noisy, and there was no screen on one of the view-facing windows, so it had to stay shut during the night. An earlier check in time and later check out time would be nice too. But these are minor details.

Pros: First class fitness center, comfortable rooms, excellent service by staff. Like the layout of the restaurant. My go to place from now on when I am visiting the area.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel has functionally become my second home. My husband and I are both from the bay area and this is the perfect spot central to all of the grandparents. The rooms are very comfortable and spacious. The service is excellent. By far, my favorite thing about this hotel is that it has an amazing gym with everything you could possible want. The kids world, made my children want to move to Walnut Creek, they loved it and want to know when we are coming back!. Cant say enough about this place, we love it!
4.5 OK
Cons: Online it showed pool cabanas with tv’s. We planned on watching the NBA playoffs poolside. But they weren’t even open until 2nd week of May. Both elevators kept breaking so when we had the only option of using the stairs it led us to a doorway that opened up on the other side of the building to the street. We had to walk all the way around in our swim suits. The website also said Saturday’s they had a special in the cafe that was a Bloody Mary with a burger which was also in the menu that was handed to us when we sat down. When we asked to order it they said that that promotion isn’t going on anymore on Saturdays. We were very misled. We live locally and just wanted to have a staycation close to home for a night. Huge waste of money. Never staying here again.
8.2 Excellent
Pros: with club sport connection - good facilities for excercise/relaxation clean, well-tended facility
Cons: only valet parking - or try to find something out on the street and walk...

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great rooms for a family. Nice accommodations. My kids love the breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The gym and breakfast was the best. It was also great to be so close to dinning and the freeway.
Cons: Maid service never came. Was a little disappointing.
8.5 Excellent
Pros: The rooms were clean, the bed and pillows were very comfortable, and an extra blanket provided. Everything I used in the kitchen and living areas worked well, and the room was efficiently designed. The front desk staff was extremely pleasant, the made-to-order omelets were very good. I liked the close proximity to eateries and easy freeway access. Ample parking. Key card readers at all exterior doors worked well (not always the case, so happy to see).
Cons: My room had an extremely noisy bathroom fan and the shower did not drain properly, so I would stand in 3 inches of water at the end. There was no ice when I got in, so I turned on the ice-maker, which was very loud the first night. The noise from the adjacent rooms shower was a very high pitched squeal (they showered at 5am).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was very spacious. Liked the full kitchen, it's very helpful when traveling with children. Very quiet and relaxing at night, complimentary breakfast was great, convenient location with shops, theaters and restaurants within walking distance. The room was spot clean, overall a great experience.
Cons: The shampoo and conditioner didn't work for me and it would have been nice to see a little more color in the room(my personal preference).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our room was fantastic. We paid a little over $100 and we were put in a room with a nice chaise lounge, a comfortable King bed, and (to our surprise) a kitchenette larger than the one in my first apartment! It comes stocked with all of the dishes, utensils, pots and pans you need to cook full meals! The staff was helpful, and they had no problem accommodating my request for no down pillows (I'm allergic). Overall, it was a fantastic stay at what felt like a luxurious hotel. We will be looking to stay here again when we come back to San Francisco.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Room was spacious, good food at the bar, great happy hour and breakfast was really good too. All staff were friendly and helpful. Clean, comfortable and good location.
Cons: N/A

7.1 Good
Pros: The breakfast was great for a free hotel buffet!
Cons: The person checking us in was mind-blowingly slow. It took 30 minutes to check us in, having already paid and having a reservation confirmation, and with one person ahead of us. Madness.
7.7 Good
Pros: I really liked the friendly staff and how they kept the place so clean. They were even cleaning carpets in the rooms - that was impressive. Location was handy for the visit. Free breakfast was a nice added bonus.
Cons: I would add more healthy and tasty items to the breakfast with reduction of fast food preservatives.
9.4 Excellent
Pros: Very clean, great bed and located by lots of stores and restaurants.
Cons: It's about 15 min from downtown Napa and Sonoma.
6.8 Good
Pros: The room setup was very good with plenty of storage. The breakfast was very good with a selection of proteins, which are usually lacking in most breakfast selections.
Cons: We were on the side of the building beside the road so it was a bit noisey. We were hoping for a nice restaurant / pub close by but all that was available was fast food

7.0 Good
Pros: The Sunday buffet at the Meritage was very good. The lap swimming in the pools and 3 free hours of childcare included in the resort fee was also very nice and an unexpected bonus.
Cons: Ridiculously overpriced for what it was. $26 resort fee and $30 valet fee on top of over $200/night for a tiny old room that wouldn't even pass muster at a Best Western? The room was awful - outdated, small, old, musty and generally uncomfortable. Noisy from the hallway, the bed was saggy, the comforter stained and 2 adults plus a baby in a crib were way too many to fit in a tiny standard room.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was very good. Room service excellent and the pools were great.
Cons: I asked for a taxi to take me to SFO. Instead of a taxi, they had reserved a sedan which was more expensive than a taxi. I thought it was a little bit cheesy. I'm sure that some people want to drive to the airport in a fancier car but they should specify. I asked for a taxi, not a town car.
4.3 OK
Pros: The look of the hotel
Cons: The check in staff
6.6 Good
Pros: Location - close to everything including freeways. Facilities were excellent -- pool, exercise room, etc.
Cons: They treated me like a second class citizen because I booked not directly through them. Promised me a fridge and I had to find a facilities guy who didn't talk to the front desk to get one. Told me there was a free breakfast buffet, but then it wasn't free.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Our oasis on the hill! The Claremont is a special place and I return there whenever I can; the location is central yet private and the staff is friendly, attentive, helpful and genuine. Each staff member, from the housekeeping staff to the manager, smiles and greets guests and is not only ready, but willing, to make your stay enjoyable. When there was an issue at check-in with the room assigned. Frank Flynn quickly and apologetically gave us another room with no question. In chatting with Fracesco (I'm sure I have not spelled his name correctly-my apologies!) in the lobby, we told him we were headed into the city the next day; he not only cautioned us about traffic and crowds in the Golden Gate Park area due to a concert, he recommended alternative areas to visit-and when he saw us a couple of days later, he asked how our trip went! A special shout-out also to Mohammad and Zachary who took care of us for breakfast in the Meritage restaurant-their service standards and guest treatment should be the envy of fine dining establishments everywhere. They made the start of our days happy and pleasant and really made an impact of the pleasure of staying at the Claremont!
Cons: The charm of an old beauty like the Claremont is also sometimes what makes you miss some things you might find in a newer hotel; the HVAC system can be unreliable and loud, the bathroom does not have an exhaust fan, etc. But having noted that, the graciousness of the wide hallways and high ceilings easily make you overlook those modern facility differences!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful location. Grand old building which has been well maintained. It had been some years since I last stayed there and the place seemed in better shape than it was.
7.0 Good
Pros: Nice pool, spa and exercise facilities. My kids had a blast at the pool - it was nicely heated and they enjoyed it despite the cooler February weather.
Cons: Our room was below one of the hotel's restaurants. 6am on a sunday morning and isn't a great time to be woken up to the sounds of tables and chairs being moved. It's an old hotel so it's pretty loud. When I checked out they gave me a bit of a discount and said that when we checked in that the front desk should have warned us that our room was loud... they really just shouldn't rent out the rooms or if they do charge less.... but they'd rather put guests in a position where they have to complain to get a discount. Even with the discount if was an expensive weekend that wasn't as restful as you'd expect for the money.
6.0 Good
Pros: Loved the look of the place from the outside..altho you quickly feel like an inconvenience being shuffled out of the way. The hotel is rich with history and has very nice decor..the room was big, with a big bathroom.
Cons: The trexk to the room was ridiculous, having to take two elevators and very long walks on different levels while carrying your things. The room floor needed vacuumed, you could feel stuff on the carpet. After we checked in, we left to go get dinner and you can't get out of the gate without a special card given at the front desk. Well guess what- oh, and it cost $30 for this parking privilege.
7.1 Good
Cons: Rooms need updating bathrooms are old. They are nice but old and doesnt match the common spaces in the lobby
6.0 Good
Pros: Staff was great.
Cons: When we checked in room wasn't ready but they did have an upgrade queen to king for $35 per night more. They charge $30 per day to park. If you want to take a guest to the pool they charge $30 per day per person. All the up charges made it rather expensive. The Meritage restaurant was not open. Only place to eat was small and not very good. It is an OLD hotel built in 1918 but upgraded. Rooms are small. The elevator permit was 6 months overdue.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Stay was great wished new more about it before we got there to enjoy the facilities
Cons: Food prices were a little high

9.4 Excellent
Pros: Staff was excellent. Breakfast options were healthy and very good. Rooms are modern, quiet and nicely appointed.
Cons: Few options for quality dining near the hotel. Requires driving 15 to 20 minutes if you want a higher class dinner.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean rooms, well maintained. Hotel and Bistro staff during all shifts is very attentive and asking how else I can be helped. Very pleasant and professional experience - am a frequent guest there and has always been a good experience.
7.7 Good
Pros: Hard to say...we hardly stayed there...but we did appreciate that it was very quiet.
Cons: I would not choose to stay there again! I have to get up 2-3 times a night and each time I got up, the motion sensor light would come on, lighting up the entire room!!! NOT GOOD for my spouse!!! There was no way to turn off that feature which will force us to choose a different hotel next time.
9.1 Excellent
Pros: Nice hotel, friendly staff, comfortable, safe. I would stay there again.
Cons: Tv would lose signal sometimes while watching a program. I came down early to the lobby to order a breakfast sandwich and a Starbucks coffee, but the cafe wasn't open. The front desk offered other food from their market. It was all processed. I found peanuts and a bottled Starbucks coffee, but there was a hotel tax added to each item. Disappointed. Expensive.

5.7 OK
Pros: It was clean. Basic hotel that's sort of worn. Front desk staff was nice and very helpful.
Cons: After breakfast the staff was very, very rude while we were finishing our family meal. Coffee wasn't replaced in the lobby. A window was opened at 10:05 to the point we were freezing, they purposely banged around things they were putting away roughly just to make noise. It was like at 10am it was magically OK for the cleaning staff to be as rude to us as they wanted so they could clean. A grace period of 30 minutes to let people eat with their families would be more appropriate, not rudeness.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: All round good
Cons: Paper thin walls; 6am Exercise Music & audible throat clearing from next room & kids running back & forth upstairs, Ta RDG
9.4 Excellent
Pros: Price. Closeness to Napa wineries
Cons: Bedding sheets and bed spread. Would be nice to have cafe and bar since none close by.

5.4 OK
Pros: staff is very nice.
Cons: First, had to move rooms, heat not working in the first. Second room, some TV channels not working. The place is newly renovated but the work is marginal in places, for example, in my room the composite floor planks (no carpet) had gaps to the subfloor. Been at this hotel a number of times, not sure its the same.
8.5 Excellent
Pros: Gym
Cons: Price of breakfast
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The service was outstanding
Cons: The rooms could use updating
6.5 Good
Pros: Hardwood floors, bath amenities
Cons: noisy room, clicking sound all night, I was in a room located behind the elevators so I heard them running THE ENTIRE NIGHT. Updated hotel but I doubt I'd stay there again.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Hotel is in a great area and has nice rooms.
Cons: Check in is at 3pm. I showed up after 4pm and my room was still not ready. The next morning I ate breakfast went back to my room and somehow I was checked out of my room. It was inconvenient since I had to be at the airport at 10am.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I love staying at the Walnut Creek Marriott! Every time I stay there the staff shows the most gracious hospitality. I always feel like I'm visiting friends every time I'm there. I am very particular about the hotels I stay in, and this is by far my favorite one. My room is always clean, and the area is always quiet. I can't think of a problem I've had that the Marriott staff resolved without issue because I've never had a problem with any of my reservations, room service orders, or special accommodations. Oh! I can remember that my most recent stay was the result of an unfortunate situation, and the staff gave me a complimentary $10 credit for a drink at the bar. I know it's small, but the gesture was nice; they acknowledged how upset I was and made an effort to brighten my day... that drink definitely helped! They new I needed it hahaha In any case, Walnut Creek Marriott is and will always be my first choice.
Cons: N/A
6.0 Good
Pros: Good location to freeway. Decent rooms. A bit overpriced for what you get, but in range for the area.
Cons: Valet parking only @ $21 for one night. What they didn't make obvious is that there is free parking nearby.

Cons: HVAC temp control was only providing heat to maintain an 80+ degree room.In the "off" position, unit was still producing heat.Quite uncomfortable. Informed the front desk. Took 2 days to investigate, but nothing was repaired.
9.1 Excellent
Pros: Courteous staff. Ice machines. Dining area.
Cons: Would have liked a small refrigerator in room. Would have liked free snack, fruit and yogurt with coffee in the morning. Would have liked block out curtains between the exercise area and the bar/entry area. Would have liked exercise bikes facing out, so that athlete doesn't have to face wall, having people watch her backside bounce on the treadmill.
7.4 Good
Pros: Clean with friendly staff easy walking distance for myself which is hard being disabled.
Cons: So close to the freeway our view was of traffic all day n night
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean Super comfy bed Great staff Very close to fwy Very modern
Cons: Room was a bit small
6.0 Good
Pros: Staff very friendly Nice bar Very clean
Cons: No fridge in standard room No usb outlets Very hard, lumpy uncomfortable bed No separate recycling bins in room
10.0 Excellent
Pros: What did you like? You were one of the only hotels with an indoor pool in the area. We booked two rooms next to each other for our family and a group of teen-age friends. With the door open the rooms felt like one contiguous room; it was easy to go back and forth. The outside patio was very nice and no one else was using it. The front desk staff were very nice. We liked the lobby; it had several areas, including a fireplace that felt homey. The housekeepers were very courteous.
Cons: What didn't you like? No negatives.
9.4 Excellent
Pros: comfortable bed. Great shower and bathroom. clean. The front desk people were very pleasant.
Cons: Only one sink. no refrigerator. for two nights our phone didn't work and after 2 calls they brought a new one that did work. The cheapened it up a bit. No longer have a free breakfast like they did a year or two ago. Bunch of noisy teenagers with a ball team on Saturday night. Not as good as when we stayed a year ago. Breakfast with eggs was $14--no thanks. Still a decent place but not 5 star

4.2 OK
Pros: The view of San Francisco was really nice from our room. That's the only plus I can talk about this place.
Cons: Everything else. For a 3 star hotel at a premium price, it was disappointing. While the beds seemed clean, they squeaked and creaked like they were from 20+ years old. The rugs where filthy looking with stains. And don't try using the advertised pool, where you first have to sign up for an available time slot and enforced to swim laps only. The breakfast, well, if you like bagels and cereal it'll do, but overall disappointing location. Absolutely would never stay here again.
9.1 Excellent
Pros: Character, old world, charming. It has a good vibe. Restaurant upstairs is excellent with good selection of wine. Walking distance to Berkeley shops and other really good restaurants.
Cons: The rooms were a wee bit small but comfortable. This is a very old building and built as a place of safe stay for women. There is parking but adds 20 bucks a day to your stay -not unusual.

Pros: The room, facilities, and staff are great.
Cons: Breakfast could use some work. It was okay, considering there is no kitchen on site. But it wasn't even good catered hot food.
6.0 Good
Pros: The neighborhood. Excellent restaurants, bars, shops in walking distance. Awesomely diverse.
Cons: Older hotel. Could use an update but still no problem. You are downtown so it is a little noisy and there are homeless people around. But....this is what Berkeley is so don't be surprised.

Pros: Since my son started attending Berkeley two years ago, I only stay at the Hotel Shattuck when visiting him. Thus far, I've stayed at there six times. I have NEVER been disappointed in the accommodations. Admittedly, some reviewers complain about the price. But, hey, considering the location, accommodations, staff, and amenities, I'm not going to complain.
5.7 OK
Pros: Rooms were fine. Hotel was clean.
Cons: Reception and bar service awful. Card keys did not work. A/C stopped working. Small, crowded lobby. Shattuck area is not inviting.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Clean and vast room, everything working as it should.
6.3 Good
Pros: Location. Front desk service was horrible. Room Service was worst. Terrible food. Had a hair in it. Oatmeal was lumpy
Cons: Service was way off.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: Every staff member I encountered was smiling and went out of their way to say hello, open doors, offer to help, etc. Very impressive!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I really liked everything about this place. My room was very stylish, and it came with all the usual amenities. The room was smaller, so I'm not sure if I would be happy there if I had to share the space with someone else. I don't know if all the rooms are that size, or if I just got a small room because I was by myself. For just me, it was the perfect size. The AC works well, which I've come to learn isn't a given at many "upscale" hotels. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It is right in the center of everything in Berkeley, so there are plenty of restaurants, drugstores, cafes, etc. within walking distance. It is conveniently located next to the downtown Berkeley BART station. I didn't have a car, so I didn't need to deal with parking, but I imagine it's not easy or cheap. The restaurant has really good food. There is plenty of seating in the lobby/bar area to meet with people to discuss business or have a couple drinks. I just really liked it here.
Cons: They focus so much on helping each customer as much as possible, that several of us stood waiting at the check in desk for a really long time while one obnoxious customer waxed poetic about all the things he wanted to do while he was in Berkeley. They need to be more conscious of calling for help when a line starts to form.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I've stayed here several times over the last few years; I had a flawless, enjoyable experience each time. This last trip they even held some rather bulky packages / equipment which had arrived a week early for work, without question. The staff is always friendly, rooms are immaculately clean, and the location (right across Allston from the Downtown Berkeley BART, a block off Berkeley's campus, and close to several good dining experiences) is excellent.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Conveniently located in downtown Berkeley, across the street from the BART station and a couple blocks from the Cal campus. Some nice restaurants and bars nearby. Very nice accommodations and this was the quietest hotel I've ever stayed in. I never heard a single sound outside of my room.
Cons: Rooms are a bit small but still very nice and comfortable.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: I liked that the staff was very nice and professionally as my fiance and I walked in and took the time to show us to our entrance after we parked
Cons: I have no negative comments it was a great place
5.7 OK
Pros: The Bistro
Cons: We had problems with the plumbing. The bathroom sink gurgled all night long and made a gross mess in the sink the next day. The hotel staff didn't seem to care too much.
4.2 OK
Pros: Breakfast ham, egg, & cheese croissant.
Cons: Check-in person (yes only 1 person) was clueless. She would ask the questions but would not hear what you were saying nor did she listen to herself. There was no acknowledging that I was a Gold member. I had requested a room on the top floor. She called housekeeping (at 3:30pm) and they had nothing available. No offer if I would like to wait but gave me a 4th floor room. I asked for an upgrade (Gold member), "Nope, not available". Took 2 phone calls during my check-in and dealt with them totally before finishing with me. I ended up in a dark room with a 1/2 a window for 2 nights. 1 hour later I get a phone call, "How is everything?" I said "Eh, its OK". She says "OK great! Have a nice day!" I could have said "I have a cabbage on my head." and I'm sure her response would be exactly the same. She called again 10 minutes later and asked the same thing. I said "It is still just OK and you already called me." She said, "Oh, OK, Have a nice day." Again, asking the right questions, doing what the manual says to do, but totally oblivious to what is going on around her and could not care less. The room was old and smelled like feet. I saw quite a few people walk in the office to work but I don't think any of them realize that they are in the hospitality business. The cafe was typical and decent but are you kidding with the drink prices? $15 for a glass Franciscan Cab or Clos du Bois Merlot? The bottle doesn't cost that much. Too bad not a lot of choices in this area. May just have to drive further next time.

Pros: The rooms were really clean the bed was comfortable
Cons: I was traveling with a service animal and the woman at the desk asked what type of disability I had which isn't something they are supposed to be able to ask

2.0 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing.
Cons: Staff did not provide positive customer service. Room was dirty. Room was not cleaned at all during my 3 day stay. Location is ok but lacks views unless you want to look at a trailer park or old tool store. Shower water does not get hot! Cable/dish is unreliable and was out most of our stay.

Graduate Berkeley is a five-minute walk to campus at the corner of the city stir and game day buzz. We are steps from Shattuck Avenue shops and stops. A virtual post card from its counter culture past, Graduate Berkeley resides in the historically renovated Hotel Durant, making it the most storied place around. The lobby invites nods to the arts and academia, the well-traveled local and Berkeley’s Bohemian roots. Collegiate plaids mix with a faraway but familiar feel, like a home away from home.

Pros: Has a wow factor. Lovely decor., down to earth staff and great food. Quiet. We had a good price. The location was perfect
Cons: The room was small, felt cramped. We were stunned by the local taxes and fees - $93. I might stay out if the area next time.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: There for a university tour on a Thursday, had a great stay. Room was comfortable and clean (for 4 of us on two double beds). Room was much bigger than SF hotels we had been at earlier in the week. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Lobby was comfortable and the restaurant was surprisingly good. Overall, great place for a short stay.

Pros: Everybody was very polite and made us feel welcome. The room was very clean and comfortable. It was a pleasant stay.
9.4 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very friendly and helpful. They were very patient with us sorting out the various family names, who got what rooms that multiple bookings thru hotels.com caused.
Cons: Key card glitches. Seemed like every time we left our rooms someone's key cards weren't working when we returned. Also, rooms could use a little updating, starting to look a little worn.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We were thoroughly pleased with our stay. From the breakfast and lovely grounds, to the extra friendly staff, our time there was very enjoyable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great prices, clean, excellent buffett breakfast, good location, and parking garage! Loved our stay!
4.6 OK
Pros: Location is convenient.
Cons: Check-in staff has as much personality as a cardboard box. Hotel isn't super clean and lighting fairly dismal.
6.2 Good
Pros: To be fair I'm a Marriott person and the Walnut Creek Marriott was full. This hotel isn't bad at all, it's just not the Marriott! ; ). Clean and kept, just if you are a light sleeper, make sure you don't get a room facing the freeway.
7.1 Good
Pros: extensive breakfast, plenty of food friendly staff afternoon cookies, a nice touch free parking, a real plus room clean except for carpet near bed :((( the building is a little 'old'
Cons: see comments on other side
3.4 Mediocre
Pros: The lobby obviously had been renovated. The breakfast was a cut above for that kind of establishment.
Cons: When checking in I was told that I wouldn't get any IHG Rewards points for my stay. Apparently, if the reservation is made through Hotels.com, there are no rewards points given to the guest--the very person who is paying the bill and to whom the points should be given! I don't care through whom I book a hotel room; I don't even think about it. Hotel rooms are booked through some sort of intermediary all the time. That's how the hotels fill their rooms: they use booking agents to get their rooms in front of the biggest audience of potential customers--duh! The most irksome thing about this is I purposely chose the Holiday Inn Express OUT OF LOYALTY. Why would I ever chose an IHG property again when they don't count every stay I make, every dollar I give them?
