Spouse couldn't drive without additional cost
Pros: No problem with the car itself.
Cons: We have NEVER rented a car where the spouse was not included in the original quote. The additional cost was prohibitive. So my husband had to drive everywhere, even short trips. We rented for a month, so this was quite inconvenient! We shall not rent from Hertz again.

Pros: I entered the location as Orlando Airport knowing there was a Hertz rental location. However, the location Kayak allowed me to make the reservation was off the premises and we were unaware. The location was about 20 minutes from the airport.

I will not rent from Hertz again.
Cons: The manager and his lack of customer service. It took them almost 3 hours to get us our rental. We were late to our destination and did not get to see our family. We had to drive in the worst traffic and at the worst time of day. That part of our trip was destroyed by the lack of customer service. The solution given from the branch manager was not enough to make us feel better or want to return as a customer.
Cons: I reserved a suburban a month in advance to be called 45 minutes from the time I was supposed to pick it up to be told they didn't have one and the company shipped a Ford Explorer to the location instead.
Customer service is nearly non existent. After spending two hours on the phone with customer service I finally got in touch with the regional manager. He did get me a suburban 10 hours later. This ruined part of our family vacation because it was so late. The company then tried to charge me double what it cost originally because the entire rental agreement had to be recreated. Argued with the front desk at 10 pm that night when I had to be on the road at 4 AM the next morning. Finally got them to fix the price only to wake up the next morning and find the incorrect, double, price was still charged. I had my wife call while I was driving the next morning to fix it. Customer service kept trying to tell me it was a hold...REALLY??!!! For $2000 ish when the original was for just over a $1000?! After another 2 hours on the phone with them they finally released the hold and gave us our money back.
Finally once we got home I had to take it in and again go argue with the front desk because of the incorrect price being charged on my card and I didn't want it popping back up after we turned it in. They assured me it was fixed and it was just the mistake of the agent who originally checked us out late that one night.
Avis ruined our family vacation. We will never rent from them again. i gladly pay the extra that National charges. Stay far away from Avis! The other reviews about how horrible of a company they are are true! The incompetence of its employees is astounding and customer service cannot do anything for you. They read from a script and are like robots!
