Pros: The Hyundai Accent hatch back did very well for us. The little car swallowed all of our luggage, had great cup holders, and was very nimble on the windy roads up and down the mountains/canyons.
Cons: They really will try and push you to upgrade to a larger car, but it's not necessary. A nice hatch back like the Accent works perfectly for a party of 2.

Paid double what I was quoted
Cons: I made a reservation for a small car at $15/day. Had to pay double my quoted price because agency didn't have that type of car available at the moment thus forcing me to pay more. Terrible experience.

Pros: The vehicle drove nice
Cons: The shuttle was late to pick us up after we had seen an alamo and enterprise bus pass 5 times. We picked up the car and after driving we found roaches. We returned the car and very next car I checked had roaches. The third vehicle had roaches the third day but I decided to get Roach traps instead of dealing with advantage again

I felt discriminated against.
Cons: I was told because I lived in Hawai'i, I had to put down an extra $200 deposit. She also insisted they know my hotel and give proof that I had a return flight. She also gave me a warning that I would be charged extra if I got the car dirty or dragged sand in the interior. I am a medical doctor and I fly lots of places for both business and pleasure. I strongly recommend you never use this car rental company. Hertz and Avis have always given me excellent service and never demanded that I justify myself.

Fox was cheapest, but not necessarily the best
Pros: Friendly staff and a better price than other companies for the week we were there. Car had rubber car mats which was nice because we didn't have to worry about our hiking shoes. Tires were good on the car so we weren't concerned about a flat. Car was clean besides salt build up on the driver's seat and seat belt. The shuttle drivers were friendly and chatty, gave decent advice about things to do in the area, helpful with luggage. Center was not far from the airport and easily accessible for returning the car
Cons: Really pushed selling the extra services (insurance of all sorts in a variety of packages) and made it seem like the island was teeming with criminals and treacherous roads. The seat belt and drivers seat was caked in salt- which I get a small amount, but it was sticky with grime. Our car only came with 1 key- no dongle to lock and unlock it (and they told us not to lose it because it was really expensive, though it seems someone else lost the dongle or it had broken somehow and they failed to replace it). Our car radio didn't work very well, seemed like the antenna was damaged somehow. They fill out damage to the car prior to you taking it, but missed damage on ours so when we returned it the attendant had to call to be sure it wasn't us who cause it (I am happy they verified that I did not damage the car, but it is frustrating when you are waiting for them to do this because they missed it in the first place and you have a flight to catch). When they called to verified, we had no idea what she was doing, she simply said "Just a sec." went behind the building somewhere and started talking on the cell phone. We had no idea what was going on, we thought she was booking another car or talking to a friend or something because she just left us standing there to answer a call. It wasn't until she came back that she told us she was calling about the damage. Kind of made me feel like they were trying to make us pay for something we weren't responsible for because we didn't choose to buy the insurance (we are covered through our credit card company- everyone should check out their coverage they may already have).

Pay the extra and go somewhere else!
Pros: I liked the pleasant shuttle bus drivers.
Cons: The persistent overselling of products (insurance & rental loss), cleanliness of vehicles, maintenance of vehicles (brake noise, steering noise, shuttering), and the consideration of road conditions (beware half the island is being paved so there is an expectation of rock dings). Overall, I paid way too much in the long run and I should have went to somewhere else.

Cons: counter rep asked if I wanted insurance or would like to decline. I said decline and next thing I know he calls my car insurance company in the mainland to verify I have insurance but since it wasn't a full car insurance package I had to buy their insurance for an extra $30/day. the total bill came out higher than just going with one of the other companies that was a little bit more per day. what a rip off!

Cheap, but did not have the car
Pros: Cheap rate, they said that I could switch the Altima, that they gave to me, on the next few days with any SUV once they have them in stock. But, given that my hotel was on the north shore of the island and the rental place was on the east shore, I declined this offer.
Cons: They did not have any SUVs, and couldn't offer a bigger car. They blamed it on someone extending his reservation.

Cons: The 12v plugs are disabled in all their cheaper rentals which was a problem as we were camping our whole stay. Staff wasn't concerned by this and suggested we upgrade or go to a different agency. We ended up in smaller and less comfortable Mustang for nearly twice what I was expecting to pay in favor of losing more time out of our visit. I had to call for the shuttle as it passed by without stopping the first time too, and initial pickup at the counter was slow. Next time I'll go with another agency and avoid Fox.

Pros: Clean car, ran well. Great gas mileage. Friendly folks, very helpful and thorough.
Cons: Only one complaint, and it's a big one: the windshield wipers streaked very badly. This is unacceptable for Kauai, where rains are frequent and often torrential. This is why I gave three stars for "overall" and comfort. If the wipers worked flawlessly, i would have given 5 stars across the board.

Pros: Absolutely nothing.
Cons: They did not have the car we booked ready and said it would be a three hour wait for it. The only option offered to us was their "premium" convertible Mustang, which had a busted transmission, and a whistling air vent. When we brought that back to exchange for a functioning car, we were told that was the nicest one they had, and that all the mustangs were pretty terrible. So instead we downgraded back to an economy car, which had horribly squealing and dangerous brakes, steering issues, and terrible gas mileage. Upon returning the rental, we informed them of our concerns and requested a refund of the price increase for the "premium" upgrade, to the bill we were initially quoted, since the upgrade was forced, the car offered was unacceptable, and the replacement was back to an economy car and far worse, if not dangerous. They promptly closed our rental and told us it was impossible to refund on a closed ticket, and refused to get a manager involved to address the situation. They showed extremely manipulative and predatory practices, offered an unacceptable experience, and topped it off my informing us that we in fact did receive the best cars they had, and that what we had initially requested would have been even worse. They have not only ignored our concerns and request for a partial refund, but added additional charges to my credit card since. I cannot express enough how little you should trust this branch, and would never recommend renting through them, at any price or quality of car. At this point I would expect a full refund from a reputable company, but have simply requested a reversal of the additional charges incurred, and have still been ignored.
Pros: Excellent customer service. Check out and returning the car was effortless and the car was very clean.
Cons: The automatic cvt on the car was pretty weird overall. It's awkward at low speeds. This doesn't really have anything to do with Thrifty, just letting you know.

Pros: The car was a good price. The staff were friendly. It was fun having a Jeep, but the car had some damage and an engine light on.
Cons: We had to wait 30 minutes for our first car. It was old and had bad technology. A day later, the brakes started having a rubbing sound, so we took the car back. The next car was a Jeep as it was the only car available. It had a terrible smell. A day later an engine light appeared. It seemed as if all the car there were defective.

Pros: We got a screaming deal! We paid for a small SUV and got a 2015 Nissan Pathfinder; best value for our money, hands down. The car was relatively clean: we found wrappers and trash in the seat back pockets, but other than that, it was all good. Other friends paid more for an older model minivan that broke down. It was right then that I realized the deal we got! The service at the counter when we arrived was quick and friendly, as was the service when we dropped off the car. There was a discrepancy in the price per day, but when I said something, the representative gave me the quoted price, no questions asked. Also didn't feel pressured into buying the insurance or pre-pay the return gas. In fact, I loved the convenience of pre-paying - saved us time AND money.
Loved driving this car so much, I might actually consider one for my next car. Thanks, Thrifty and KAYAK, for hooking us up with a sweet car for our vacation in paradise!

Pros: Shuttlebus Picked us up from the airport and a 1-2min drive to the location. Pick up was super easy, friendly staff!!! I recommend a jeep or another 4x4 to see the island. When it came to drop off that was easy as well. Just pulled up and waited for someone to check the vehicle, out in 5min.
Cons: Make sure you check to see the amount of gas they said they gave you to what is actually in the car.

Troubles with the rental car....
Pros: Fixed the problems
Cons: Had to return our first rental car because the battery on the key was dying and if it went out the car would not start. The second car they gave me had a lot of dents in it. Then I noticed that they charged me more than what I was quoted when I rented the car. They honored the price, but of course it took time to do this.

Cons: The car seemed old and had no usb ports. Wipers were substandard and windshield was hard to see through. Windshield and mirrors were dirty. I waited a long time in line at 11:30 p.m. after traveling for 10 hours and had a copy of my reservation ($135) in hand when I finally got to the counter. Agent insisted that in spite of my excellent insurance coverage and additional coverage through American Express, I needed Thrifty's liability insurance because "Hawaii is different. You absolutely need this, I promise you." Bill went from $135 to $278 for a really crappy car. Will not rent from Thrifty again.

Pros: Clean, newer vehicle. Very fast drop off and shuttle service.
Cons: Gave us a significantly larger vehicle than we reserved. Long wait at pickup. Tried to convince us to buy extra insurance and several other nickle and dime tactics.

Cons: The car was not throughly vacumed and looked dirty. They did however quickly address this issue once I complained.

Pros: The car ran.
Cons: Found a couple cockroaches during the course of our trip. Not a big deal for me but wifey not too pleased. By the third roach, we bought traps and put them under our seats. Didnt check them until we dropped the car off. My wife refused to know how bad a problem it could be. When i checked the traps at drop off i found, no joke, 70-80 roaches of verying sizes. Total infestation. i think someone had a roach farm going under the seats.
Pros: This branch was extremely helpful and kind. Wouldn't think twice about using them again.

Pros: The car was ready, and although I picked it up 2 hrs. before the agreed upon time, there was no extra charge. Very nice customer service. On return ( I brought the car back 2 hrs. earlier), the inspection of the car took just minutes and then we were driven back to the airport by one of their employees, as promised. No wait. No problems.

Pros: There is no airport pick up, but they will promptly drop you off after you return the car. We were told it was within walking distance (about a mile), but the road that you have to walk down has no sidewalk and we were carrying luggage. We ended up taking a cab that cost about $10 with tip.

Great Service and cheaper off-airport
Pros: Going off airport saves you a bundle on the airport taxes. Folks at this location were very nice and helpful. Be careful if you take a taxi over there -- it's only 2 miles away so very easy and only $8 to get there, but my first taxi driver took me to the wrong Enterprise. So just be sure to use the full address when letting them know your destination. Service at this location both on the phone and in person were fabulous. Would definitely use again.

Kayak let me down
Pros: Enterprise was accommodating and helpful.
Cons: Biggest issue was that the car was booked for a holiday date at a location that was closed on holidays. This should not happen. I, and many others were impacted by this. I don't know whether this was the responsibility of Enterprise or Kayak but it made the rental harder and more expensive. Very frustrating. It makes me hesitant to use either firm again for car rentals.

Cons: When I booked car rental with third party vendor, I expected car rental to be at airport. It was not. There was no shuttle to/from the location.

Car full of bugs
Cons: Car was dirty, looked like the exterior was rinsed down, and the inside hasn't seen a cleaning in at least 3 or 4 rentals before I rented it. Shortly after driving it for about 4 miles we stopped to do some shopping at Costco. When we returned to the car we found several weird looking colored bugs in the Center Console. We went to our destination and parked the car. Next morning as we entered the car we saw several (at least 10 or more) cockroaches scatter for cover. They went everywhere into the dash, the center console under the seats, and on and on. Needless to say we will not be renting from Budget again.

Pros: Not only did everything with our rental go smooth but when my wife lost her wedding band under the seat and we couldn't find it, the manager showed genuine concern and had us take the car to maintenance right away where another nice employee took the seat out and helped me find it, which we did. Can't say enough about the service there in Honolulu. Great finish to the trip!

Pros: Joseph was great. Car was great. Drop off was super easy.
Cons: Took a long time to get our car when we arrived since there were only two people working. That was frustrating since it was already late. Also, the price wasn't as low as we felt it could have been.

Cons: Car smell could've been more fresh but not a deal breaker.
Cons: Down the road we noticed that the brakes were a bit noisy on this 30K+ mile vehicle. And there was no wiper fluid which was a contributing cause of a bird incident. Poor thing.

Sucked BIG time.
Pros: Drop-off was a snap.
Cons: Waited forever (1 hr) in line because only one computer worked for Payless. We got a far cheaper car than advertised when booking. Our car had a broken rubber piece hanging on the back left door seal that prevented the door from closing all the way, which prevented the remote lock from working. The wipers were also old and smeared the water across the windshield instead of wiped them, making it dangerous to drive in the rain by obstructing the view.
I was staying an hour away so I asked for help prior to coming in and they were hard to get a hold of. I sent an email and 4 days later they just apologized and said thanks for the feedback instead of helping me get a replacement car. They have an "F" rating on BBB - I won't even bother making an inquiry. Don't go with Payless.
