Hertz car rental
Pros: Renting a car there was very easy. Car was very clean and nice. Value was good. John was extremely helpful and professional. I would go there again.

Pros: The convenience of getting a good rate and picking up a car at the airport.
Cons: By picking up the car at the airport, I had to pay another $70 in airport taxes. This was not clear during reservation.

Cons: We paid $72.00 when we originally rented a car on line with another $12.00 to be paid at pick up. On my reservation it clearly stated I would pick up at 6:00 PM. When I arrived at my destination I was told the HERTZ place I had rented from was closed- they closed at 6 and it was now 6:10. In the Providence airport there are signs and recordings telling you over and over ALL car rentals are now at the link station( where the trains are). In the end my rental at Hertz was just about $100.00 more than the price on my reservation! Am I displeased? You bet I am. I feel completely ripped off!!

Great bargain 3blocks from airport
Pros: I've always rented from the airport when flying into PVD, so fees & taxes raise the rate considerably. This time the airport rental was 150% higher, so I shopped off site and found Hertz (within walking distance) across the street from the cellphone lot. A cab ride was $6. Hertz shuttled us to the airport when we returned the car. Well worth the savings.
Cons: The car was okay, but not the quality I usually get. It had over 20K miles, maybe I'm spoiled but I've never rented one over 5K. This car rode like it was hard driven; shuddered when idling like it was about to stall and the pesky 'change oil' light came on halfway through the week, so we could not see some of the dashboard message center. The oil change sticker in the window showed it was a couple thousand miles past due. The savings benefit definitely outweigh the car issues.

Cons: Stench of cigarette smoke for a whole week. Also we had no idea this Hertz office wasn't in the airport--I assumed It was!!! Had to pay for a private taxi to go off airport grounds to get to the rental office in Warwick! I did sabe money, but This wasn't what I thought I paid for.
Pros: The guy handing over the little Fiat car was very enthusiastic. He had the car ready for us and showed me how the Sports mode works. Gave confidence that although little, it is a nice ride. And, it was.

If you want to get stranded...
Pros: I thought I liked the price. But it turned out that I was okay about paying a little more and actually getting a car.
Cons: My specified pick up time: 1 am. That was an option. When I arrived at the counter in the Providence Airport, there was a line of all Alamo customers and no staff. The cleaning crew said they had left at 12:30. When I called the 1800 number, the condescending male voice explained that the counter closes at 1 am. So it was my fault I was late. And like I said, I was not the only one they left stranded.

Pros: The staff were extremely helpful and informative. It was simple and didn't take a lot of time.
Cons: Budget would not allow me to rent the car because I did not have a major credit card. I walked next door and rented one from another agency.

Cons: When I picked up the rental suv, there was an empty can on the backseat floor. Also, because I was taking care of my failing Mother I could not return the vehicle to the Warwick RI agent. When I took it to the Worcester, MA agent I was informed there will be an Additional charge of $200.00.. After speaking to customer service they gave me a $75.00 discount.. Due to the fact that I could not leave my Mothers side for 3 hours to return the suv I thought the charge was excessive and should have been waived totally..

Car rented, life is good.
Pros: Even though our nation has descended into Dante's 3rd level of hell and the farce that plays out in Washington is an all day long nightmare that we can't wake from, my car rental was exceptional. The humans I dealt with were all of gods children in every color and background that put their efforts to my comfort. Lovely

Pros: The Grand Caravan was just the right size to move some belongings. The van was very comfortable. We got great gas mileage- almost 30 mpg.
Cons: They convinced me to buy a full tank of gas upfront at 1.98 per gallon at ck in desk and said whatever I didn't use, I would be reimbursed for. When I returned car, even though I only used 1/8 of a tank, they charged me for a 1/2 tank. Trickery. I don't appreciate at all! Because of this, I will never recommend this company unless they reimburse me what is owed to me!
There is a check out point in garage upon driving out where an attendant very quickly assesses any damage to car...I wanted to get out and look at car as well to make sure he and I were on the same page...he kept yelling at me to hurry & get back in car, that he had already marked up paper, where damage was. There were 2 cars behind me that needed to be checked out, as well, so he was trying to rush me.
Also, they gave me no directions on how and where to return car...only an exit #. There are 2 completely separate parking garages at Providence Airport on opposite sides of the highway. I followed the first sign at airport that said garage and found myself in the wrong one! I had to back track, talk to unfriendly cashier and get her directions, which were clear as mud. Getting to the correct garage was no piece of cake and added extra stress.
My rental car experience with Payless was not good!

Pros: It was my first time renting from Payless and I was very pleased with everything, especially the courteous agents at the airport when picking up and dropping off the car. The car was exactly the size I requested and the cost was great. Will definitely rent from Payless in the future.

Great car and great value, but poor service
Pros: The pick up went well.The car was great. It was very comfortable and clean and got great gas mileage.
Felt like it was a good value as well.
Cons: When we dropped our car off, we had to leave our car out in the parking garage, then come in to the counter in the airport to check out. There was no one at the counter when we got there and a customer ahead of us had been waiting 15 minutes for someone. They sent someone to go find the customer service representative employee and he finally came. We were in a hurry to catch our flight, so it was quite stressful to just sit there and wait.
The signs for drop off were confusing and there wasn't anyone there to tell us what to do.

Cons: The gas cap didn't have a release button, but it's tricky on a VW Jetta. I spent some time at 5am stressed out at the gas station, trying to open it. Thankfully, the internet answered my question. I would've liked a little mention when they assigned me the car.

Pros: There was nothing to like about what happened at Thrifty.
Cons: Thrifty did everything they could to make sure that I couldn't get a car rental. I was told over the phone by the 1-800 number that I could use someone else's credit card over the phone and when I walked there they told me I couldn't. Every which way I tried to get a car rental, and they didn't let me have one. I had to scramble to find a different car rental place last minute, which luckily I found. I am beyond angry and will never rent a car from them again.

Cons: I had reservation at PVD -- found out it upon arrival at PVD Thrifty counter, it was Thrifty at Warwick, not quite the same. Thrifty at PVD counter said my supposed fee was for Warwick, but Warwick did not have my size car anyway, and I would be coming back to PVD anyway. So I was forced to rent at PVD, which had extra taxes of another $65. Found out this was common problem at PVD. DECEPTIVE ADVERTISING!!! I BLAME KAYAK OR PRICELINE FOR THE DECEPTION!!!!! IN THE FUTURE, I WILL TRY TO AVOID KAYAK OR PRICELINE. I rent cars and hotels a lot, and will AVOID the KAYAK AND PRICELINE IN THE FUTURE!!!!

Thrifty car rental is NOT on airport property.
Pros: 1. Price was cheaper, but rental facility was not at airport.
2. Nissan Versa got good mileage.
3. Included cruise control
Cons: 1. Car smelled like an ashtray. I had to buy a can of lysol spray.

Difficult to pickup/drop off
Pros: Liked the car, prepaid gas plan and the rental agents tried to help because Kayak sent me to the wrong Thrifty.
Cons: Walking half mile from the baggage claim to the rental counter , waiting in line for 30 minutes because only 2 agents on duty. Then having to go 2 stories up to the garage on an escalator with 4 suitcases because the elevator is broken and having 1 car to pick from. Between the airport setup and the rental agency and Kayak a very bad experience

Rental at Thrifty
Pros: The staff was great. Getting to the auto was very easy. Victoria was pleasant and very thorough. The young lady at the front desk was very attentive and matched the price from another Thrifty outlet. Turning the auto back was a breeze with the young man being keenly aware of traffic. I would definitely use this outfit as n the future for auto rental needs

Enterprise rental office was closed.
Cons: Reservation was online and I had Scheduled pick up at 12pm. The reservation confirmation letter should have NOT allowed that pick up time since it was Close by noon.
I lost time and money paying taxi fare to the closed enterprise office, an additional taxi fare to return to the airport and a much higher costs for Enterprise car rental at the airport, which unfortunately I was trying to avoid since I was traveling in a tight budget.

Pros: The clerk at the counter in the airport could not have been more helpful in comparison to the clerk at the priority booth in the parking garage who could not have been any less helpful and had no interest in our referral to the advertised vehicle we had reserved. The second employee went out of her way to verify the details of a minivan we needed to rent to move some items. She was terrific.
Cons: Employee tried to upsell me with a better car for onlyv$19 more.
Car rental return place should be specified by national - not their fault, but it was nearly impossible to find. Luckily there was a gas station open at 2 AM that I could ask where to return a rental car too. It was not at all clearly marked at the airport.
