5.0 Okay
Pros: Not much.
Cons: This place was packed full of families with children running everywhere. My husband was going to use the pool but changed his mind when he saw the water was green. Our room had a box of garbage next to the bed and we found a big drop of fresh blood on the sheets when we pulled them back. Ugh. This place should be avoided.

1.0 Poor
Cons: Only stayed beause i had no where to go definitely would'nt recommend this hotel to my worst enemy
6.2 Good
Pros: For the money, you can't get a better room, with as much space. The bath area is really private, set in the back of the room, not by the front door as per usual. Everything seemed faily clean. THe bed was not the newest but was comfortable. The common area for breakfast was very nice and attractive. WE didn't use the pool.
Cons: In general the place is not being maintained. The entrance to our room was unsightly and falling apart. A bit scary actually. There is no attempt at landscaping anything. The bathroom floor was coming up where the shower water had seeped underneath. There was a spider on one of the pillows when we were getting ready for bed.
1.0 Poor
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Everything

I was just getting coffee.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Other than - everything!
Cons: A phone scammer was in one of the rooms making room to room calls telling people that Michael at the front desk was notified that our credit card was denied for liability coverage and needed our credit card information again and there was no need to go to the front desk that he could take it over the phone for our convenience. Suggest you acquire a phone system that can track room to room calls. Apparently it has happened more than once :(

Cons: Nothing
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful location right down the road from the State Capitol and close walking distance to the Civic Center and several restaurants and a couple of coffee shops. Nice lobby area, the breakfast was very good and included with the stay. There is also a social hour in the late afternoon but we were unable to take advantage of that. The bed and pillows were super comfortable, and with the King Suite there was a full kitchen and soft seating area.
Cons: The toilet flushed in a strange manner that was kind of splashy, but didn't ruin the stay.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Proximity
Cons: Closed bridge
9.6 Excellent
Pros: This was a beautiful stay. The room was well appointed and the kitchenette was fully stocked with everything needed to cook or eat in. Staff was great. Breakfast was very good and well presented. Loved it. Definitely recommend. Will not stay anywhere else.
Cons: Nothing to not like, really.

Pros: Location, staff and room.
Cons: Bed was uncomfortable
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was an ACTUAL breakfast, resulting in me feeling full and ready to start my day! Hotel bed was very comfortable, plenty of room in the suite for storing all my things. Location of the hotel was very helpful with business meetings as it was incredibly close to all appointments. Covered parking was also a plus!
Cons: Covered parking was nice, but the open air walkway left something to be desired during a cold morning. Breakfast "featured item" was supposed to change daily, but didn't. The hotel AC/Heat unit was adequate but had no option to leave a fan on which would have been helpful to let me sleep.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I love this hotel. The rooms are so nice. The breakfast was amazing.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The location of the hotel was great! The staff was pretty friendly.
Cons: Our room faced a parking garage and the bath some room had cleaning problems and the space in the room was a bit tight. The bed though king sized was not very comfortable to sleep on.
7.0 Good
Pros: overall it was good! The layout of the room was great for our family. We liked the location overall.
Cons: We didn't receive any clean towels on day 2 after we requested them. The parking wasn't great, but was okay. The bed was really uncomfortable. I think the couch might have been easier to sleep on. Maybe an upgraded mattress:)

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was amazing
Cons: The room was very drafty and cold. But it was 2* outside
8.8 Excellent
Pros: It’s very hard to bear this hotel when you combine pricing, location and amenities. Skywalk access is great during fall/winter so you’re not walking in the elements to get around downtown. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and the overall feel is in line with the Hyatt Place line of hotels. Bed was very comfortable and the room was spacious. Clean room without any funny smells, noises, etc. Staff was wonderful. Breakfast was plentiful with eggs, sausage, waffles, potatoes, oatmeal, cereal, fruit and an assortment of bagels/bread/muffins. Juices and coffee also included though the coffee tasted a bit burnt (and that’s subjective). Fast retrieval of my vehicle by the valet when we checked out in the morning. Rates are cheaper than you will often find in DSM on the weekend. Though I go in-depth with our “dislikes” below, many are minor or subjective, I just have a tendency to be long winded and detailed. Bottom lone, we would stay there again.
Cons: The hotel seemed understaffed for a normal weekend, and very understaffed for one that had back to back concerts at Wells Fargo Arena going on (Friday night and Saturday night). The staff was very polite and worked as best they could, and it is appreciated, it there should have been more staff available at check in time. We arrived shortly before 4, but our check in was delayed by about 25 minutes due to rooms not being ready, and getting my truck to the valet was difficult because it seemed only one person was available. Front desk staff offered free refreshments from the bar/store downstairs for the trouble, and again I stress that the staff were great but there just wasn’t enough of them. The room was spacious and comfortable but showed signs of wear for a property that surprised us, and the arrangement of the room felt empty. My wife and I stay almost exclusively at Hyatt properties; mainly Hyatt Regency or a Park Hyatt when we travel for leisure and normally either a Hyatt Place or Hyatt Regency when I travel for work. This didn’t feel like a normal stay (our first at this property in DSM, we live about an hour away and we’re in town for a concert) with Hyatt when we got to the room. Large wet bar (10-12’ long or so) but only two coffee mugs and a single serve pot on the counter. I’ve bucket and two glasses were on the other side of the room under the TV. We booked a corner suite so there was also the four seat dining/meeting table but no other dishes, cutlery or glassware. Felt like a half cocked arrangement that wasn’t finished all the way. No ice available on our floor also was a disappointment. Large couch with hidden sleeper showed heavy wear and had ripped seams and fabric in several places. Oddly enough, the light switch in the bedroom also turned off the outlet on the left side nightstand. Didn’t realize that until the morning when my wife’s phone wasn’t charged, but started to once we turned the lights on.

5.0 Okay
Pros: The rooms are very big and were quiet
Cons: Way overrated. Seemed dirty when you walked in. Staff was never friendly. Understaffed. Same person who checked you in also did valet so left hotel lobby with no one in it. Homeless people all around hotel. Saw one trying to unlock doors of cars.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff

Pros: The location in relation to the Wells Fargo Arena was great. We were able to walk to the concert and back.

Pros: Clean rooms Free shuttle service Friendly, helpful staff
Cons: No hot tub
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast staff was friendly and helpful with tips about the outside snow, one way streets, etc since we were from out of town. The bed was comfortable. I liked that the straws were not plastic at the restaurant, and I like that if you’re tired, you can eat at the restaurant in the hotel, and not have to go out in the cold and snow. Easy read newspapers were available in the lobby. Location was good for my visit, & I would stay at this location again.
Cons: The poor guy when I arrived to checkin was having a coughing fit. Max? He said he swallowed funny. I appreciated that he turned away from me to cough and coughed into the crook of his elbow. He seemed ok the next day. Why was no other employee available that knows how to check in guests on the computer? Clearly, the employee needed a few mins to recover from his coughing fit. Dinner, I had to wait 30 mins because when I arrived early ~5:30pm? at the restaurant, only appetizers were available for order. I waited and the waitress came back at 6pm to take my order, & I ate dinner, but then I could not take the leftovers back to the room for later because there was no microwave in our room. A prior Holiday Inn I stayed at had the same furniture, mini fridge, & microwave; however, at this Holiday Inn, there was an empty space where the microwave was at the other property. I noticed some of the soaps had coconut, which I had to avoid due to sensitive skin, but I brought my own soap just in case.

Pros: Breakfast off the menu was great. Service was excellent. I was the only one eating there at that time of day. The comfortable bed made for a good night's sleep. We were about one block away from the surgery center where we had to be at 8:45 AM.
Cons: Nothing.

3.0 Mediocre
Pros: The location. Room was fairly clean and appeared that it had been updated .
Cons: NOT A 3 STAR HOTEL! Hallways smelled of smoke. At check in I had to initial that it was a nonsmoking room, but receptionist said everyone does it. There was vomit on the floor in the hallway. Lacked lighting in rear of Building-closest door to room.

Cons: Room smelled musty. Booker a poolside room but didnt get it.
6.0 Good
Pros: Pool area for the kids
Cons: Noisy..... very loud with kids running around in the halls
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Right off the interstate and obviously the water park is what’s going to bring people to this place. Noon checkout!! The hotel itself is older and could use some updating but the water park was great for the kids and worth the stay if you have kids
Cons: Choose a poolside room which is nice at night when your kids are swimming but not so much in the morning when you’re trying to sleep in. Thins walls. Rooms are older, so if not using water park probably should use another hotel. No breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The bed was very comfortable. Room was quiet.
Cons: No breakfast.

Pros: Most comfortable place. Great service.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The location to the airport is great. Park and fly is wonderful. We've stayed here several times in the past to catch and early morning flight and the breakfasts at those times has been great. Our flight was too early to get breakfast this visit. The parking service gentlemen are always very polite and timely.
Cons: Apparently, every other time we've stayed (we only stay here for the park and fly) we've been upgraded and actually usually get the exact same room. This time, we weren't upgraded (we certainly don't expect it) but the main floor room we got just seemed a little tired and seedy. People were outside the glass door in the hallway smoking cigarettes and weed.

5.0 Okay
Pros: Convenient Location
Cons: Overrated! For the price... long wait checking in and checking out... furniture was worn, suites are small and moldy shower and dusty room, what they don’t tell you is parking is inconvenient and valet is expensive. I would not recommend this hotel

Pros: Great view of Des Moines, the river. Nice facility, I enjoy staying at Hotels where there are things to do, and you can relax at the hotel, this is a destination place, not a flop your gear and leave/sleep only kind of place.

Staff was aware that our son was having cancer surgery and they went above and beyond to be helpful and supportive during our stay. We will make this our 1st choice next time we come to Des Moines.
Cons: Parking garage was a ways away and a hassle when heavy snows were falling. Also had to pay extra for parking.
