9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very understanding, explained everything to us, and spoke a little English. Breakfast was a traditional Japanese breakfast and very enjoyable. Our room was small but comfortable. There's a bus stop across the street or you can easily walk into the city area.
Cons: There are smoking areas on each floor that aren't sealed.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The Ryokan was really clean and nice, it had a traditional Japanese flair. The given Yukata were very cozy. The most positive thing was the nice and helpful staff
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The hosts were accommodating beyond my imagination! The room was very tastefully decorated and there were complimentary treats and conveniences.
Cons: Typical of older buildings, the heating system (a single space heater) made for inconsistent heat in the room.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staffs were very helpful and friendly. The surrounding was cosy.
Cons: A little bit far away from the JR Hirosaki train station (approx. 20 min of walk), but otherwise, everything was good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location is great, all the turist places are at walking distance. it is a quiet nice Ryokan, very clean, the staff is attentive and will care for you.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: A real Japanese experience in an old style ryokan. Location is excellent. Staff were nice. Good value for money.
Cons: Nothing really. Although the place has known better days, the room was in perfect condition and everything was spotless clean.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: It was a traditional style ryokan and the staff were really welcoming and helpful.
Cons: Could smell the smoke from other rooms.

Cons: Twin room is quite old but comfortable

Smile Hotel Hirosaki - Hirosaki - Building

7.9 Good (792 reviews)

Featured amenities include complimentary wired Internet access, a business center, and dry cleaning/laundry services. Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff, efficient with good basic amenities provided. My room size was small but perfect for solo traveller. Breakfast good, mostly Japanese style of course, with common international touches; plenty to eat. Location was great for me and my plans. I could walk to the gardens and the castle and I could walk to the railway station and bus station. If you aren't a walker, there are local buses. Plus, bicycle hire is common. Some great food options close by.
Cons: Nothing for me to dislike. It was true to label.
7.0 Good
Pros: Small enough for a solo traveler
Cons: Quite far from train station, but there are couple bus lines pass the hotel
8.0 Excellent
Pros: It's a great location as it's only around a 5min walk from the train station. Hirosaki Castle and park is very near to the hotel. Plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants within walking distance. The Japanese style breakfast is very good and recommended. What can we say? We recommend this hotel! We found the people and staff very friendly etc.
Cons: We cannot moan or say anything bad about this hotel.
7.1 Good
Pros: The staff was nice and the room was bigger than the standard Japan hotel rooms. They have 3 washing machines available for guests (extra charge) and a microwave downstairs where you can heat your own food.
Cons: We made the reservation MONTHS before the arrival date, for a non-smoking room and when we got there they told us they only had smoking rooms available. I don't understand how this is possible. The room smelled awful. Smoke smell is not something you can easily clean for the following guest, it stays everywhere. Our sheets, curtains, everything smelled like smoke. The bathroom was not 100% clean as it had some hairs on the wall, I'm guessing from previous guests...
7.5 Good
Pros: Free bike and breakfast
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Good location in easy walking distance to the Castle, restaurants and supermarket. Good parking arrangement. The breakfast was excellent.

With a stay at Minamida Onsen Hotel Apple Land in Hirakawa, you'll be within a 15-minute drive of Hirosaki Castle and Sarka Park. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk and an elevator. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: 3 styles onsen in the Hotel. Big bath (with apple), Medium bath and Private room. Very good for relaxation. 15 min walk from Train station. Have a complementary apple in room.
Cons: Hard to access. A little bit far from City.
6.7 Good
Pros: We booked this hotel about a month before our trip specifically so we could attend the Hirosaki Neputa festival, a smaller version of the Aomori Nebuta (which we saw the day before while staying in downtown Aomori). Given festival interest, Apple Land (which is about 30 minutes by car outside Hirosaki) was our only option according to booking.com. We thought the hotel room was pleasing, clean, and traditional (nice tatami flooring, good beds). We thought the breakfast was good. We thought the on-site onsen was good. We appreciated the free on-site parking.
Cons: Apple Land was the last hotel we stayed at after 3 weeks in and 9 other hotels all around Tohoku. At well over $300 for one night with breakfast (plus an onsen/bath tax), this was one of the top three most expensive hotels we stayed at. Other top expensive hotels included Kuroyu Onsen Resort (which was worth the money because of the atmosphere/experience) and the Aomori Richmond/Nebuta festival package (which was worth the money because we were right on the festival parade route, including front row seating). By comparison, Apple Land was not worth the price given the location/distance from Hirosaki - basically in the farmlands with little/nothing close by. We were also led to believe from booking.com information that the hotel provided a free shuttle into Hirosaki; when we arrived, we were told that they did not provide shuttles for the festival/hours. In the end, we took a short train into Hirosaki. Because the train ended service at around 9, we had to return early from the festival. Hotel staff were not able to provide helpful information about whether we could drive/park at the festival (after taking the train in, it seemed like there was plenty of parking near the station). Having seen both the Akita Kanto and the Aomori Nebuta, we were not very impressed with Hirosaki Neputa and would skip that (and this side-trip/hotel) were we to do the trip again. In general, the hotel appears to be a major bus tour hub serving both Aomori and Hirosaki. The hotel was regularly flooded with bus tour members, meaning - crowded onsens at certain times.
7.1 Good
Pros: Apple onsen
Cons: The location a bit far
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The room and baths were excellent. The complementary apples were delicious.
Cons: Based on the description of the included dinner, we expected to be able to order from a menu. Instead, there was a fixed starter (most of which my husband was not able to eat due to allergies) followed by a buffet. We both ended up with plenty of good food to eat, but we would have appreciated more accurate information about this in advance.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Shuttle bus from Hirosaki Station to the hotel Good Onsen
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The front desk manager speaks excellent English without any accent, it helped a lot with non-Japanese speaking tourists. The property is at the central area of the city which makes it very convenient for tourists to travel to and from other scenic areas and the airport within Aomori. There's a big Aeon Town within 2 minutes' drive from the hotel plus fuel filling station which made it a plus to choose this hotel especially for first time travelers to Aomori.
Cons: Nothing.

Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, dry cleaning/laundry services, and a 24-hour front desk. Free self parking is available onsite.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: I have requested for additional pillows and was promptly given after we returned from dinner. I’m very appreciative of the quick follow up. However, I’m concerned the the security of the luggage’s for customers who chose to temporarily let the hotel keep them before or after they check out. I found the luggage’s spilled out of the small room and posed security of anyone taking them out of the hotel.
Cons: The hot spring bath at the top of the hotel is a surprise and me & my wife found them very good and relaxing.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location.
Cons: Small size of the room but expected.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: It is within one minute’s walk to the Hirosaki rail station. The breakfast which is included in the price has a lot to choose from.
Cons: A little bit old but still acceptable.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Nice quiet room and the central bath was nice to have. It's right across from the train station and you either have to go around or cut across the street (like the little old ladies did) to get to the hotel.
Cons: I think the razor wasn't that great.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room is clean and tidy. Breakfast is good with many varieties of food. You can enjoy the onsen in the hotel (free of charge).
Cons: Nil
9.2 Excellent
Pros: the location is best. very close to the station

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Good location. Close to Main Street and near to Hirosaki station just 900 m.
Cons: Room is too small.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Handy for what we wanted to see and do, nice little breakfast room, all staff very helpful
7.5 Good
Pros: The hotel was good, we can choose the ammenities that we like in the front desk, which is quite unique. And the breakfast was good. Hirosaki city was beautiful.
Cons: The staf not helpfull. We just need a taxi, and the only answer the staff gave was, gibing me a phonr number to call the taxi. We don't have japanese number, so I asked the staff again and begging to help me, and they call the taxi. Also I asked abou the festival in hirosaki castle, and they just answer it with "maybe they have event there" and all the staff don't smile and feel bother when we asked a question about the city. But we are tourist, and don't know about the city.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Helpful staff and nice location, 10 minutes from the station. There's a lot of amenities available and even some manga to read. There's also some really nice food options nearby, I was able to go to an Izakaya with a live perfornance of traditional music. I really recommend going to the top of Iwakisan if you have the chance.
7.0 Good
Pros: Helpful staff especially a front desk staff Ms 木浪青葉
Cons: Room is a bit dated
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Budget hotel with all the facilities you need..i really like the bathtub...after long day..its nice to have a nice bath..nice bed..really close to hirosaki park..
Cons: Nothing
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great central location, close to main attractions. Set in a semi-residential area, this hotel is 15 minute's walk from the Station, 10 minutes from the park and 10 minutes walk to the shopping area. The cozy, simply furnished rooms have a bathroom; some seating and a small flat-screen TV. Very helpful staff - only speak Japanese. Breakfast was complimentary and very good with a great selection; one of the best for this price room I have ever had.
Cons: The view from the room. Would be great if they had an area on the top floor or the roof that you could take photos of the city, mountains and surrounding areas from.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: 10 minute walk from train station on way to Castle Park. Good value. Breakfast a bit bland but with usual variety. Clear written info—staff not very bilingual. Stuffed animals available to borrow (!). Bed comfy.
Cons: We had looked forward to using the “free bicycles” but “none were available” when we asked. A/C worked well but was noisy.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent Japanese breakfast. Friendly and efficient staff, good location.

Pros: The breakfast was so good
5.4 Okay
Pros: The staff were friendly and helpful despite most of them not able to speak or understand English
Cons: I was disappointed with the room. The furnishing and furniture were dated and looked their age. The bathroom was small and cramped. There were black stains along the edge of the bath tub.
9.2 Excellent

Cons: The location was not of a walking distance from the train station nor the events places. But very close to Hirosaki Castle so I guess it's a tradeoff.
