I arrived at the Heritage House Resort for a romantic Valentines weekend with my girlfriend. Booked 2 nights over 1 month prior and even was going to have Valentines dinner at their restaurant. Upon arrival checking in was slow and we had to wait for mandatory Bell Service to take us to the room...we waited over 30minutes in the lobby . They proceeded to take us through the restaurant, up a back staircase, and to a room above the restaurant. The room was very old, it smelled, wallpaper peeling off the wall, the chairs were stained, the bathroom had two faucets (one for hot water and one for cold), and the carpet had stains...VERY GROSS ROOM! I felt like is this a joke by putting me in the creepy haunted room. I paid for a upgraded room with fireplace, not an old room with a wall heater. I went to the front desk to get another room and of course they were sold out and there was nothing that could be done. The hotel said the room automatically was assigned when I booked and it is just "luck of the draw". This was not acceptable and it was a bait and switch since I booked via Kayak vs directly with their hotel. The only nice thing that happened is they refunded my money immediately and the front desk, Evan, helped us by finding a bed and breakfast nearby for us to stay...however it was only available one night and our long weekend away turned into a short trip with lots of driving for nothing since all hotels were booked for Valentines night. Needless to say we did not go to Valentines dinner at the Heritage House after they ruined our weekend. Don't stay at this hotel...but if you do I highly recommend calling and confirming your reservation and the room you are in to make sure it is a renovated room with fireplace.
The room was beautiful. Very modern, clean, well laid out and comfortable. Staff was welcoming, helpful and efficient. Wait staff for both meals were friendly, well-informed. Food was very good and reasonably priced. The grounds were not as well kept up. There used to be a lovely "green garden" open to the public showing their home grown produce. I miss the unplugged feeling--no phone, etc. Everything was so luxurious but the towels in the bathroom were unraveling. When I I told the front desk, and showed them the picture, their reaction was underwhelming.
Room w balcony and view of ocean
Everything is great about the place. The food is delicious in the restaurant and the location is spectacular. Make sure you request a room with unobstructed views. Our room looked straight into trees rather than the ocean. I needed Internet to communicate with work and, in the evening after dinner, it was nearly impossible to use it functionally. They only have one signal and it seems that everyone in the hotel was on it.
Location was breathtaking, room was cute and facing the ocean. Staff was very helpful in recommending local activities. Very pricey for the room you're getting. No breakfast, minimal amenities.
Just about everything. Dining room food, great. Service a little sketchy.
My wife and I decided to visit Little River Inn for our 25th anniversary and we could not have been more pleased. From the room, to the restaurant, to the bar, it was uniformly excellent.
This guest did not leave comments about this hotel.
Nothing. It was old and run down. Huge waste of money. We stayed a night up the road at a gorgeous hotel for much less the night before.
I liked everything about Little River Inn. My whole experience was beyond expectation. There was plenty to do or not do depending why you are there, especially the ocean views and rocking chair on the veranda
The location The bed was not comfortable at all, and was noisy if you moved on it
The staff was outstanding--friendly, cheerful, helpful. Right in town and across the street from trails through oceanfront headlands. We spent lots of time hanging out in the Victorian lobby with beautiful views of the ocean. Cleaning was mediocre. Hall carpets needed vacuuming as did under the bed.
beach, garden, old atmosphere in side. Restaurant very good. Didn't know that we were staying in building behind the hotel, the building was not well marked (only on the door) and keys had wrong number on the tag. Confusing.
I loved the Victorian decor, staying there was like travelling back through time. The bar/lounge in the downstairs is the perfect place to hang out for a night cap although the bar closes at 9:30PM. There is a great balcony you can bring a glass of wine up to and chill out while enjoying the ocean view. Would definitely stay here again when we visit Mendecino.
The historic lobby and restaurant. spacious room 308 comfortable bed
The fireplace and casual, quiet lobby area are without compare. Ideal place to spend time with your loved one drinking wine and playing cards or whatever. The upstairs deck serves the same purpose. It's old. It's beautiful. The food and staff are wonderful. Bathroom down the hall ... less than ideal. Rooms are small.
Seemed quint when we first arrived Our room had no bathroom, the hotel had a restaurant downstairs that we could he very clearly until all the patrons left at midnight, then all we could hear was the bar two stores down. Impossible to sleep, the hallway also smelled like old fish.
Great views. Cozey rooms for the adventurous. Definitely felt the age of the hotel. Room descriptions are misleading.
I was amazed at the quality of amenities that was included in the price of the room. I wish I had known that the hotel was located on the east side of the road instead on the ocean side.
My husband and I are not typically B & B people but we decided to here after reading all the great reviews on other sites. This B & B will not disappoint you. This is not like staying g at grandma's. The BG is wonderfully decorated, the management goes over the top in service and the meals are beyond. We just finished staying 3 nights in this fabulous B &B. As frequent travelers who enjoy nicer properties to stay at we were thrilled with our choice to stay here. These large rooms mostly have full to partial views of the gulch. Call Guy if you want a view room as he's happy to assist with your decision.
Complete relaxation in a quiet and secluded spot. A perfect place to unwind for a weekend!
hotel was very charming. Ammenities were great. Perfect breakfast and great dinner at the inn's restaurant. And the town itself is absolutely adorable. staying in a suite outiside the main building can be a downside. For us it didnt have much of an impact
I enjoyed the antique atmosphere of the hotel (built in 1882), its closeness to the ocean and the excellent food. My wife would have preferred a queen-sized bed to the full-sized bed in the room, but that would not have been in keeping with the older era atmosphere.
The Mac House (MacCallum House) is a wonderful, romantic, luxurious place to stay. Breakfasts there are the best in Mendocino. The rooms were well appointed and the stuff helpful and friendly. I highly recommend the Mac House.
Location was spectacular, as was the bar's drink menu. Staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful, room was fair. Food at restaurant, and at breakfast, was less-than-average for the cost. Restaurant was average, but prices were expensive.
Full breakfast included, location is conveniently right downtown. We had a problem with some of our room's cleanliness which was quickly handled by desk staff to our satisfaction. There was a noisy wedding party the weekend we were there and smokers occasionally congregate around the front entrance forcing you to walk a gauntlet of smoke.
The food and bar were great. I loved having a hotel in the room. The staff did mess up the reservation, but more than made up for it with an upgrade at the same cost.
The staff was extremely friendly and accomodating. My mother had a problem with her ankle and was having difficulty with stairs, and the lovely young woman at check in was kind enough to move us downstairs. The room was beautiful and spacious. This was a special trip for my mother's birthday, and it could not have been nicer!
Beautiful location, bed was very comfortable, breakfast was great. Bartender was a bit unfriendly
Easy to find, convenient for walking tour of town, beach access right across the street. Very nice, friendly staff, delicious breakfast. Very dog friendly. Room was clean, nicely decorated. Bed was very comfortable. Stairs up to the inn and street parking made unloading the car difficult. The front entry hall was very cluttered and didn't give a good first impression. I am not a fan of Victorian style and particularly unrefurbished tired & soiled-looking antiques, so didn't want to sit on any of the chairs in the "living room" area.
The staff were wonderful and responsive. The breakfast was absolutely delicious - the best I've ever had at an inn or B&B. The other patrons were a diverse group of interesting folks. I would definitely go back, especially if I got such a good deal again. the place was a bit shabby - kind of the classic Mendocino funk with the added twist of the bottom part of the door being missing, so that we had to stuff a rolled up towel under it to keep the critters out (it was an outdoor-entry room).
Staff is excellent and close to the beach and downtown. Little worn out place but if you are ok with small wear n tear then good value for money. They messed my booking so got a sub-standard room for the first night. Second night was pleasant.
Perfect location for a romantic getaway surrounded by magical ocean! Rooms were comfortable - rustic Mendocino style, which we love. The couple running the place was super sweet and prepared a fabulous communal breakfast every morning. I would definitely stay here again.
Breakfast was okay. Enjoyed the folk music with Holly. Location was good. The room was small and dirty. The sink was next to bed with completely separate taps for hot and cold water. There were no toiletries provided except a soap bar. The bed wasn't clean and we could easily spot grey hair and dust. Overall this was our worst hotel/B&B experience in the last 5 years.
Beds could be more comfortable, and the remote didn't work in our room. The sliding door to our patio was very difficult to open but the space was large and the property was peaceful.
We had a wonderful stay at the hill house, if I could change one thing though it would be the odor of the room. It smelled as if a poopy diaper had been lost somewhere in the room. We looked everywhere and couldn't locate the source.
Location- walking distance to Mendocino. The staff was nice. The beds were bad and the wi-fi was terrible.
Location Beautiful gardens - flowers Sound of the ocean They putting on a new roof - construction started too early and included our deck and deck chairs. Deck chairs were taken away and at one point plywood sheets leaned against our sliding glass patio door. They told us about the construction when we checked in but said we would not be bothered. There is however a new roof for future guest. We also wished the windows and the sliding glass doors had screens so we could open the windows and not worry about bugs or critters.
The Queen Suite is very confortable and reasonably priced. The staff is very friendly and prepares a delicious breakfast.
We liked the individually decorated romantic room and enjoyed the breakfast with home made muffins. As we arrived at night we had some difficulties finding the building. More light around the hotel or at least an enlightet hotel sign would have been helpful.
The staff was extremely personable and the rooms were very clean. The room was very nice, large, but still cozy. There was no "great room" to gather, only a small area that seated four. The door between our room and the next room let in light and sound.
Really nice room and polite innkeeper. Very good breakfast. Perfect location either for visiting the small town and for exploring the beach Between our room and the next one ther was only a door: you can hear almost everything betweend the two rooms. Breakfast room is too small.
