Excellent value, good food, friendly hotel staff. Although efficient the bar staff could have been taught to smile.
the hotel has good faccilities and our room was pleasant. Breakfast also good we were put in a room directly above a very loud party. The hotel refused to compensate us in any way for the fact that we couldn't sleep
The only fault was that we did not realise that the radiator in the room had been turned off and therefor the room was on the cold side due to the time of year.
I am disabled and there was always a disabled space for my car and the staff were friendly. The hotel room was not clean. On the surface it looked clean but when I laid on the bed the wall behind was covered in dust.
Very large bathroom. Restaurant staff gave good service. Newspaper arrived early. No telephone in the room so although I was asked if I would like a wake up call it never arrived.
The location, very good Hotel very run down, staff not very helpful, ive stayed at the bell three times over the years as we race at snetterton racetrack and each time the hotel looks a little tired,it needs a little tlc dont think we will stay next year.
checking out evening restaurant service, crap
Good breakfasts. Comfortable bed. Warm room. Hotel did not fix shower head even after we asked twice. Window would not shut. TV signal was poor. Not happy that I was asked to pay for the room when I arrived, even though money had come out of my credit card account the week before. Not happy that we were asked to pay for breakfasts as hotel didnt think breakfasts were included when booked through Bokings.com. We had to show your email as proof as they had not been sent a copy of your email, allegedly.
nothing due to the smell and unclean feel of the hotel we did not stay the night. the hotel needs some serious renovation. upon checking out (within an hour of checking in!) we were still charged the full amount despite stating the above
The staff were very friendly and efficient. Breakfast was great.Beds were comfortable and the rooms was lovely and clean. The room was fairly cold even though the radiator was on. The plumbing needs to be sorted. I tried to run a bath and only a trickle of water came out and that wasn't very hot. So,I tried the shower and it was the same.
Well situated for our requirement to go to " GO APE " for a sponsored event. Quiet and pecefull surroundings. Convenient for local shops, restaurants and pubs. Friendly and helpfull staff. Trouble free booking. Will neede updating in the very near future but still had character.
It was convenient to our place of business. The breakfast on the friday was poorly prepared and unpleasant. Saturday and Sunday were much better. Saturday night therev was a rather noisy Karaoke in the bar below our room. This is not the quality country hotel that the website suggests.
nothing at all not a very good experience, toilet and hot water not working.
Friendly staff very accomodating. Hotel needs updating old tired decoration.
would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone.
Comfortable Room remove the marquee, clean the windows, redecorate in places.
The room was comortable and clean. There was plenty of parking space available. Although the breakfast was buffet style it was of a good quality. The room was a little cramped, the additional single bed, which we didn't need, didn't help. The service at breakfast, replenishing the buffet, was slow and tea wasn't offered. Having said this, given the fact that the waitress doubled up as the receptionist I thought that she did very well.
Very little Poor staff, dirty rooms, shocking food
Breakfast was nice Building needs lots of attention inside and outside. Some of the staff were pleasent. The one thing that was infuriating, was that some guests were out the front of the building smoking/drinking and shouting at the early hours of the morning and kept me awake until at least 2am, not funny when you have to be up at 6am!!! A complaint was made to a member of staff in the morning, and nothing was said by them.
General atmosphere plenty of parking excellent breakfast position in the high street None
Lovely well decorated rooms. Good service from friendly staff. Good location for exploring Thetford's historical past. A noisy extractor fan in the kitchen sent a low vibration into the room the first night we stayed that disturbed our rest. We did not hear it the second night. We were awoken at 3am on friday night by noisy lads congretating with their cars across the road from the hotel.
The room and the facilities in it. Some of the food was not quite of the standard I would have expected from prices.
Nice hotel, service was good staff friendly Expensive for Mid Suffolk, meals and drinks very expensive. No double glazing therefore road noise was an issue.
We loved the room design, the quality entertainment equipment, the food was heavenly and in just the right portion size. The staff were most helpful. The scenery and views from the room were amazing.
Food, room and service
Surroundings and excellent room design, it was a pleasure to stay at this place Only thing, there should be better internet wireless access (or cable instead) from the rooms
Friendliness of staff, the location, the room, the food, pretty much everything. £225 per night on friday and saturday seemed a little expensive.
Peaceful, good service, bar prices reasonable. Wine prices very high.
Lovely clean very modern room, excellent food Not sure about the open plan bathroom facility.
All good Need more than one fan. not adequate
Very pleasant countryside boutique style small hotel with attentive staff
Room very comfortable. Excellent value and food in the pub was superb.
Everything apart from comments below Difficult getting served in the bar which was also the point for ordering food. No reception meant checking in at the bar and not being able to check out early the next morning so we had to leave the keys in the room and 'phone later to pay with credit cards. We could have been told of this problem when we checked in , but weren't. Food and rooms were excellent.
location, cleanliness, food and welcome atmosphere. Bathroom a little too hot
staff so friendly, so welcoming made you feel special, nothing was too much trouble, the room was magnificent, really everything was brilliant and we will be going again everything was wounderful!
very relaxing and quiet...
Excellent all round servie None
the standard of the room was very high. the atmosphere in the bar was warm and welcoming. the breakfast was really good.
Excellent food was 1st class !
Staff were friendly and helpful, room was very clean and comfortable None that I could say
I enjoyed the room I was in, also the food was excellent and the actual staff in the bar made us feel very comfortable. All in all great weekend. I could not fault a thing
The male owner was attentive. When he realised my husband had difficulty walking, he gave us a twin room on the first floor, rather than a double on the second floor. The sheets were not big enough. They came out and I had to tuck them in all the night. When I booked, I said that we were vegetarians. When we came down for breakfast, I asked for the vegetarian option, as all I could see on the general menu was eggs. The manageress said "That's the menu. You can have fish." When I told her that vegetarians do not eat fish, she said that was vegans. If someone offers a service, they should know what service they are offering, and everyone, these days, should know what vegetarians and vegans eat. She was obviously so upset at this, that we were ignored from then on. She eventually asked if we wanted more coffee. I was given half a cup, my husband a full one. It was so blatantly bad-mannered we will never go there again.
Private run, friendly En-suite a little in need of fresh decoration
Good location, rooms, facilities and attentive caring owners. A minor point - the guest information folder in the room could have provided more details about Swaffam eg street plan, history and facilities
Lovely small hotel with good facilities
Very comfy bed Bar area could do with a make over
The property looked old and interesting and the sort of quality we would normally try for The outside was miss leading the rooms were cramped, tired and more a bed and breakfast standard certainly not a good quality hotel. No way to wash my hair as no shower head in the bath! Had to use plastic cup.
The hosts were extremely friendly and welcoming. The room was very comfortable. It was a central but quiet location.
Friendliness of staff
Friendly welcome, real ale (2), secure storage for cycles, nice breakfast, quiet location
Medium size comfortable room. Bottled water plus tea coffee etc and sweets. Excellent shower and plenty of hot water. Wonderful cooked breakfast, fried bread and sausages were the best. Hosts very amiable and helpful. Very good selection of drinks at the bar. Close proximity to town with nice restaurants and public transport links to cities Couldn't fault the hotel in any way
Quiet, comfortable, well-furnished room. Very good restaurant Very pleasant staff The delay in service at dinner one evening was unacceptably long. A wait of 10 minutes for a drink which had been ordered and 20 minutes for the main course, when the restaurant was at the most half full, was very disappointing since the other days had been fine.
Helpful Staff A Bit soulless
The staff were friendly and the hotel was in the perfect location for us. The shower was disgusting, hadn't been properly cleaned for a long time. There was an unpleasant smell around the entrance corridor to our room. We had to wait for ten minutes to check in as the receptionist was not at the desk and the person covering wasn't able to check us in.
The staff were extremely helpful and the service was excellent. The grounds were breathtaking and the it was obvious a lot of money has been and is being spent on the buildings. I was also upgraded for free to a lovely first floor suite overlooking the gardens as the hotel was not fully occupied that night. This had been decided upon prior to my arrival and was an unexpected added bonus.
Nice good sized rooms Resturant service very poor
Friendly and comfortable, good food in the bar. Would have preferred to pay by credit card as your notification said was possible without extra charge. But this did not appear to be the case.
Attention to detail. A great place for a wedding. Nothing i didn't like.
Hotel was excellent set in lovely grounds
Friendliness of staff, manor house and location excellent plus food superb
good service good food, and peace and quiet
Quiet, friendly, welcoming hotel. Staff were very helpful and accomodating. Lovely gardens, food was excellent and overall we had a fantastic weekend. Breakfast was lacking fruit, although they did have fruit bowl available on Sunday. Room was generally clean but a few areas had been missed, I.E. cobwebs visible around bath legs. Also bubble bath was not relaced.
The staff were very friendly and the hotel was in a lovely location. The only negative was that our room was slightly small for two people, but not uncomfortably so.
when booking i asked for a twin room, which was confirmed. When i arrived at the hotel they had no twin rooms so my friend and i had to be in seperate rooms which was not so good
this hotel is closing as it has been taken over but the staff did not reflect this and were very helpfull. the room was extremly hot due to alot of hot water pipes under the floor we had the window open but this did not help. the deco was very drab.hopfully when it reopens we may try it again depending on the price. At presnt if it was not under change i do not think i could recommened it.
bed, breakfast shower not working unless you liked being boiled. No nuts or crisps behind bar , bar very ordinary o.k for one drink before going elsewhere
Location The bedroom and bathroom in need of facelift
Very spacious rooms, which were very clean as was the whole hotel. Very pleasant. It was far too warm in the room meaning the windows had to be open thus making it quite noisy being positioned road side of the hotel. The tv was a little small and dated with minimal choice to watch.
Friendly staff and good breakfast Bed in our room was uncomfortable and the room was very warm even with the windows open
hotel staff very helpfull good breakfast good value for money and i would recomend , but sadly i hear its sold and is closing down so i will be unable to rebook this hotel again a steep walk up to the 3rd floor but there is a lift
The food was very good, if with little slow, and the staff were very friendly. The location by the river was pleasant. Doors, windows etc are starting to fall to bits. The sash window had to be propped open and the door handle came off in my hand!
Friendly & helpful staff. Nice garden leading to river. Reasonable sized room. Room (and second floor in general) uncomfortably hot, made worse by street side being quite noisy with windows open.
Good location within the town, excellent interaction with staff. Bar food and breakfast very good Banging radiators during the night
Hi... the comfort of the sprung mattresses was excellent,,, soft pillows wonderful nights sleep was enjoyed by my partner and myself ,,, the food was very good , local produce was used.. the reception staff excellent,, nothing was any trouble in actual fact we asked for an alternative route home missing out the M25 the staff looked up aa route maps for us and found a very good route home we had no problems getting home ... thanks to the staff... would always recommend this Hotel... A++++++
the room was a good size, clean, none smoking, the breakfast was good apples in the reception wasw a nice touch. the room did not have a dvd player
The staff were very friendly and the nlocation is perfect for what we needed.
The food was of a good standard. It is dated and like many english country hotels
The Table d'hote meals were very good and excellent value, Food generally (breakfast etc) was very good with a very nice restaurant, bar meals were also excellent value although the bar was a bit of a smokers fog. Staff at the hotel were extremely helpful and friendly.
Free Wifi availability No complaints.
A feeling of quiet comfort and welcome of the best country town type of hotel. The room service meal was not up to standar, and I should have complained but we were tired.
Freindlyness and helpfulness of the staff A little tired. Bedrooms need updating. Public areas very clean
Wereham House has a lovely warm atmosphere which is created by Caroline and Andy who are the charming couple that run this small hotel. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they always had time to chat. ( We also loved Murphy the dog who greeted us in the car park!) If you don't like dogs, don't worry he is no way intrusive will just say hello and then leave you to it) The hotel is in a very convenient spot, within easy walking distance from the local restuarants, pubs and shops. We left our car in the car park for the whole weekend, as we were visiting relations who live in Thetford and just walked everywhere. The breakfast was very good, plenty of choice and well coked and presented. We didn't actually eat in the restaurant as it was fully booked both nights with a function. We will definitely stay there again. This is not a complaint but just a helpful hint. Under the carpet in the bedroom there were some holes in the floor which was a little off putting as you kept catching your foot in them. (Its quite an old building I understand but I think the floor needs looking at or at least in room 3 which we had. Also the shower had some mildew both inside and out, all it needed was one of the mildew sprays left on for a day and that would have done the trick. The hair dryer kept cutting out and it was impossible to dry your hair by it.
Greeting and service
The welcome and helpful proprietor
Parking was good, beds were good & clean, breakfast was OK 1. Old Bathroom & poor shower & a certain smell - damp covered by airfreshners. bathroom looked like it had been given a coat of clean up paint and nice towels to cover the basic inadequacy of a worn out facility. 2. Dining experience was old British boiled food standard & dinner was disappointing . (and we do not really want to see the waiters knees though I understand the informality). To be honest the idea that it was a 4 star hotel was off the mark and we came away feeling that the cost was too much for what we received in return.
Quiet location. Secure parking. In town centre. A little difficult to find. Directions need to be more detailed.
Good size room with view of quiet street Thought room may be a little cold in winter ... one radiator .
None The hotel is advertised as 4 star, but it is more like 1 star. The rooms are very small, badly decorated, and the noise from the Saniflo's and the adjacent occupants is overpowering. A very poor example of a hotel.
Good location, splendid breakfast, extremely friendly proprietors Shower/toilet a bit cramped
We found the Manager and Staff very polite and helpful in all our needs. We were there for a family party and we were given a main door key so as we could let ourselves in without having to wake the Staff. The room was very clean and comfortable and the breakfast was very well presented. We would diffenitely recommend this Guest House and also would use them again as our first choice. There was nothing that we did not like about this Guest Accommendation, it was perfect.
The staff were very welcoming and friendly and the breakfast was excellent.
A delightful country house hotel in its' own grounds. smartly decorated, clean, comfortable, good bar & much above average restaurant...all the things that make a good upmarket country house hotel.
Lovely atmosphere and situation. Friendly and helpful staff. Food excellent, bed comfortable. A great base for a relaxing week.
Quiet Far from town
Quite location helpful & friendly staff, meals very good nothing to much bother - staff responded quickly & professionally Everything fine
Very friendly, welcoming staff. Lovely gardens with plenty of opportunities to sit down although a bit damp to make the most of them.
Staff helpful and friendly , evening meal very good with good choice, breakfast excellent. Since hotel was quite for our stay operating on muinimum staff and bar unmanned for quite long periods
Poor cooked breakfast
Excellent room in a tranquil setting, wished we'd had longer to stay to enjoy the amenities and garden setting. Nothing
everything. it was excellent. Beautiful surroundings, food was excellent, the rooms and service was wonderful. Will be going back again very soon.
Location was very peaceful, staff were very helpful, lovely countryside views, food was tasty albeit overcooked. Bathroom in Kingfisher could have done with updating.
Great breakfast, lovely comfortable bed.
The retaurant in the hotel had quite a limited choice on the menu but the food was excellent nothing
The rooms are very nice, with everything you could need.
The staff where very nice I found it strange you could only order half bottles of wine with your meal
Our stay at Strattons Hotel was fantastic. We stay in expensive hotels but this one had little special touches, like nice bottles of wines in the room, a decanter for you to help yourself. Lots of careing touches. The staff very helpfull, food was perfect. We had a wonderfull time. Would go there again for sure. Well done strattons!! Sorry no bad points!
The cottages are steeped in history, well equipped and Diane and Steve were marvellous hosts. I'll definitely stay there next time I'm planning a trip to the area.
The owners were very helpful and the cottage was warm and comfortable . Very good overall .
Warm, cosy excellent breakfast and a great effort has to been made to provide quality. The hosts are prepared to go the extra mile to ensure you have a great time. Hard to find on a dark foggy night due to poor signposting. That of course is a council issue and nothing to do with The Walnuts
Everything: the friendliness, the comfortable bed, the spacious and beautiful room, the wonderful breakfast includes free range eggs from the neighbourhood, home-made jam, and fresh fruit. Everything is suberb in this place. The owners know everything about hospitality. Five-star quality for a guest house price. Highly recommended to everyone who wants to get something special.
owners very helpful --helped us to find our way in the fog to their property-hope to see you at our holiday cottage in Sweden one day
Excellent hosts meant a very relaxing stay.
Nice hotel , friendly staff , good value for money and excellent food
Staff friendliness was excellent Room was generally ok, upgraded with new shower and bed mattresses score would be very good .
Fair price for single room. Good basic food. Easy access and parking and close to town centre. No early cooked breakfast.
good car parking Very noisy motor at rear of hotel (commercial ventilator? air con?) - next to my room - led to lack of sleep! No feedback form or not asked for to let hotel know the issue.
friendly staff nice irish pub the ensuite bathroom too small
