10.0 Excellent
Pros: This Ryokan is situated at the end of the famous Morioka onsen street near the top of a small hill. Entrace is a very typical Ryokan where you will need to remove your shoes right away and friendly host will greet you right away and help you with luggage and check-in. Once we were brought to our room our host served us with fresh hot green tea with some snack. Accommodation here all include Kaiseki dinner and breakfast and they were absolutely FABULOUS! Not excessive and just the right portion the dinner included appetizer, aperitif, at least 5 types of small entrees based on different cooking methods and followed by dessert and fruit. Breakfast was smaller in the number of dishes but nonetheless delicious, plus there's also a small section of buffet area where you can self-serve all the tofu, milk, apple juice and rice/congee you'd like. Room was not as big as I anticipated but well partitioned with a carpeted table area where you can sit by the window and relax or read with a cup of hot tea. This is quite unusual in a Japanese tatami room. Staff at the Ryokan were all friendly and there was also a small gift shop and most importantly a 24 hour hot spring. Overall this was a very nice and cozy place that's suitable to bring you loved one here to enjoy some quiet, romantic times.
Cons: Outdoor hot spring pool temperature a bit too low it felt only lukewarm....

Cons: We booked the room with private open air bath. The steps to the bath were a bit slippery - may need to be scrubbed.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Staff was very personable, friendly and welcoming. The food was great, and the area is great to travel around for one or two day trips.

10.0 Excellent

Cons: Nothing!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: My friends and I met here for our annual reunion, and we're already talking about returning. WOW. I don't know where to begin. We had a wonderful experience from start to finish. Definitely one of the best, if not THE best, ryokans we have stayed at. The host greeted us in the parking lot and carried the ladies' bags from the car, during check-in, and to the room. And the room-I can't remember the last time I actually wow'd out loud when walking into a hotel room. We were all delighted and were giving our praise to the host before he had a chance to step into the room himself. Everything seemed so fresh, cozy and clean. The entire hotel had a similar atmosphere and there was absolutely no trace of the warn-down feeling so many other onsen hotels and ryokan suffer from. The hospitality was exceptional. Every single staff member we ran into was warm and friendly and would try to converse in English if they could, which is a little unusual in the Tohoku backwoods. When a fireworks show started at a resort nearby, the staff ran through the building to gather the guests so we could watch it, too. Because the ryokan wasn't crowded (which was surprising to me. How could such a fine place ever NOT be full?) my friend and I had the baths, which were lovely, clean, and just the right temperature, to ourselves. An unexpected treat! The food (traditional local fare at both meals) was great at both dinner and breakfast. One thing we appreciated was that breakfast was buffet, or "viking" style. Great for those who may not enjoy every single piece of a traditional Japanese breakfast. As we left, we were able to greet the resident shiba, Cocoa.
Cons: The ONE thing I could mention, and it really wasn't a big deal, is that the doors into the room are paper (there is a wooden grate that locks), so you can hear everything and everyone in the common area. Not so great for me, a light sleeper, but the other members of my party didn't seem to mind. For the most part though, the other guests were courteous when moving around in the common areas and weren't too noisy!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The outdoor onsen was beautiful
Cons: Some lamps i the room
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely place, relaxing bathts, beautiful environment (we went cycling for 3 days), comfortable rooms and awesome staff and fantastic breakfasts and dinners. Highly recommend!

He even translated the dinner menu into English and explained each dish for us. He served us well until the end of the dinner. We enjoyed ourselves very much. Thank him very much. We would like to thank the young lady from Vietnam who checked us in and showed us around nicely.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent meals. The staff, especially Sebastien, were really helpful
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Their breakfast and dinner's were amazing. Went for an apple pie in the lobby, and staff gave a box of bits from the apple pie pastry, they tasted better than the pie! Room was spacious and comfortable. Staff could not speak much english but they tried their best.
Cons: Location is a bit away from anything. That can be a good thing. But reliant on the shuttle if you do not have a car. Not many shops or restaurants to browse nearby. No walking trails provided.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The facilities, including the traditional onsen, were beyond my expectations. Sebastian was a wonderful host who along with all the staff really helped to make my stay a truly memorable experience.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The rooms are big in compare with similar onsen hotels that we had stayed during this trip but at a lower price. Dinner and breakfast were included. The food quality was excellent. Moreover, the rooms were very clean and comfortable not to mention the high quality onsen. Credit must be given to the altitude of the staff. They were friendly, helpful and proactive in serving and helping all customers. One more point, the 2 sessions of mini music show (40 min and 30 min respectively) after dinner were bonus. We (a group of six adults staying 2 nights) all enjoy our stay.
Cons: Not much shops nearby especially after sunset.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Secluded and quiet with a nice airy and large Onsen and Sauna. The hotel was classically Japanese and very clean and comfortable in the way only a Japanese ryokan/Onsen hotel can be.
Cons: Nothing to dislike.

Cons: i've asked for help for taxi arrangement through email, but hotel not willing to help until i ask Japanese friend to communicate with them
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was awesome, really great accommodation, the food was tasty and plenty of it.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast, wonderful Onsen, easy everything
Cons: Would have like double bed, and easier cheaper access to alternative meals outside the resort
7.5 Good
Pros: Helpful staff Spacious rooms compared to some Great view of Iwate if it’s clear and you are on the right side of hotel Onsen in general this is a lovely experience
Cons: Dinner is fixed price and not a la carte so be ready to pay one of two options and not be able to order singly - it was €4200pp or over €7000pp for more expensive version Noticed a lady taking photos in onsen when I was in there, taking pictures normally is not the protocol for Japanese - I mentioned to staff that signage on this could be useful in onsen area
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location - ski in / ski out. Hotel rooms are definitely older but more than suitable. Buffet dinner was also very good.
6.0 Good
Pros: The onsen was amazing, and the staff very helpful with ski hire in the hotel lobby and easy access to ski fields. We found breakfast did not offer many western options and there was no where to get a good coffee anywhere on the mountain. No dinner options, buffet dinner at $50 per person or $100 per person at French restaurant, was very expensive for a family of 5 costing $250 per night for buffet dinner with same menu each night. Good for 2-3 day trip.
Cons: Limited food options, very small rooms and tiny bathroom.

7.1 Good
Pros: The onsen is very traditionally Japanese, every expectation was met.
Cons: The onsen is situated a bit apart from everything else.
7.9 Good
Pros: Absolutely stunning area. Very charming hostel with a wonderful hot spring bath. The staff were wonderful and very accommodating of my inability to speak Japanese.
Cons: Smoking was allowed in the building. As a non smoker, I wasn't happy about that. The people in the room below me were smoking heavily and my roomed stank of cigarettes as a result. Comes with the traditional aesthetic of the place, suppose. The hostel is also located in the middle of nowhere, 5km from any grocery store, so bring food with you.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Set in the most peaceful and beautiful valley about an hour's bus ride from Morioka station. The menshuku is run by Mrs Ito and her son who very kindly to came to Shizukuishi station to pick me up as I arrived late. They were wonderfully friendly and accommodating. Rustic but with old world charm.
Cons: I like old but it is not to everyone's taste
8.3 Excellent
Pros: It was in a great location for our needs and the futon was clean and comfortable. Staff was very friendly and easy to talk with.
Cons: There were a lot of insects in my room. Everything was pretty old, too.
