10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff is amazing and so helpful with helping plan your travel to Naoshima and Teshima. Breakfast is great and room is super cute & clean.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Like most people, we stopped here for the night before heading to see art on Naoshima. They were so helpful and provided so much useful information about visiting the island and it made the rest of our trip much smoother.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great great great staff (best we have met during our 3 week trip) Location
Cons: Breakfast could be included in this price Not soundproof
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were super friendly and helped us with all our Naoshima questions and needs. Big ups fam
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff were lovely. Miko checked us in and very thoughtfully worked us through the optimal schedule for catching ferries and getting buses so we had a perfectly smooth trip. Such attention to guests is rare even in Japan. We also met Minako at reception who was very helpful, and Max who was cool and talkative with all the guests. We had a really nice breakfast that was included and the salad bowl we had for lunch the next day was nicer than anything you can get in Tokyo where we live. Would def come back and recommend this place to anyone wanting to visit the art islands of Naoshima and around.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Genuinely friendly and welcoming, English speaking staff in a small hotel moments from the train and ferries for the Art Islands. The breakfast and proper coffee were an added bonus.
Cons: The walls are thin and the private bathrooms are in a communal area down the hall.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The homemade food and beverages were a surprise bonus
Guest House Oomiyake - Naoshima - Building
2
8.4 Excellent (616 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Guest House Oomiyake is a 5-minute drive from the Miyaura-kou Ferry Terminal. Guests can enjoy traditional-style rooms in this historical 400 year old building, which is registered by the Japanese government as a cultural property. Each air-conditioned room comes with a flat-screen TV and a seating area. Guests can choose between apartment-style Western rooms and traditional Japanese rooms. Wired internet is available for free in public areas. Breakfast and dinner can be served for a fee, if requested in advance. Oomiyake Guest House is an 8-minute walk from Chichu Museum, and the Naoshima Bunkamura. Hachiman Shrine is only a 2-minute walk away.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our host was a kind and friendly gentleman who spoke great English. Our accommodation was excellent and we had some great suggestions for dinner. The museums where also very unique. The electric bikes are a “must”.
Cons: Nothing. I loved staying in a quite comfortable Japanese village.
4.0 Okay
Cons: Wifi was supposed to be provided but was not available. We were told it would be ready in a month; not much help for our 2-day stay. When I complained to the owner, he said we were free to stay somewhere else. Tough to do if you don't have wifi to search for another option. Did not offer any compensation though it was requested. Also the bedroom was literally 2 beds with a tv. No furniture at all so glass of water, phone, etc. had to be placed on the floor. On the plus side, the floor was clean.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was delicious and included homegrown salad and was delivered for us to eat at our low table. The location was very handy to the bus stop for the museums, the House Art Projects and we were able to get direct ferry from Honmura port to Uno when we were leaving. The ryokan itself is a beautiful original building with tatami mats and art around the walls and surrounded by Japanese gardens. You definitely know you are in Japan!
Cons: The weather was very cold when we stayed and the 2 air-conditioners took some time to heat up our 3 room ryokan.
6.2 Good
Cons: Nice man running the Ryokan but needs a woman’s touch. Gardens are lovely but need better care. Nothing to wear at night. Not a very good breakfast. No juice/fruit. Served in my room rather than a garden where others met. And the host smokes.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean, attractive, and comfortable accommodation, with everything you need including laundry. A few mins walk from the passenger boat dock in Honmura
Cons: Bring food supplies If planning to be out all day - the local Co-op closes at 5.30
10.0 Excellent
Pros: If you've made the effort to get yourself to Naoshima, give yourself a truly memorable experience by staying at Guest House Oomiyake in the cozy little town of Honmura. The town bus stops one minute away from your doorstep and it will easily, regularly deliver you to the Benesse Complex main gate in under ten minutes, where the free shuttle will take you the rest of the way to all of the museums. Chichu is indescribably unique and beautiful. But when you're done gorging on art, return to the village and explore the narrow streets of 400-year-old houses. Tucked in around any corner you'll also find coffee roasters, cafes and a variety of high quality restaurants. There's even a small convenience store where you can get wine and basic supplies. And the Artist Houses should not be missed. In the morning, Miyake will be happy to deliver a wonderful breakfast--eggs, meat, salad, toast, croissants, jam and coffee--to your room for a very reasonable price. This was the highlight of our trip to Japan.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The old house and garden were breathtaking and full of a sense of history. Our host was delightful and very helpful. Free use of bicycles and excellent wifi! Warm and spacious apartment a haven after cold winter days exploring Naoshima.
6.3 Good
Pros: Our room was quite big, and it was lovely to have a little space out the front to sit and have coffee. Super close to the Art House Project sites and the Honmura port (less than 5 minutes walk). Also lots of cute little cafes and restaurants minutes away.
Cons: It’s a guest house in a very small town, so if you’re expecting a hotel you’ll be disappointed. The rooms have all the basics sorted, but a few extra touches, like soap to wash our hands with, coffee/mugs and a full size pillow (the pillows were quite tiny), would have made a big difference.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Spacious rooms and good communal living room. Nice quiet location 15 minutes walk or a short bus trip to Honmura. 2 good restaurants close by which you need to book in early for.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location at the quiet end of town right at the water. Small place (2 rooms only) big common area. Free bicycles. Very quiet. Less than 100m from busstop.
Cons: Thin walls. Western beds. No breakfast or food available and no shop in town.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The accommodation was located next to the sea in a quiet side of the island. The host even picked us up at the port and dropped us off when we checked out. Free bicycle rental was really nice for traveling around the island. Restaurants was only 5-8 min walk away.
Cons: Nothing
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We had a great stay after a full day walking around Naoshima. Staying here gave us extra time to explore the southern part of the island in the late afternoon and evening, when it was much quieter.
6.7 Good
Pros: An electric bike provided by the owner. A kitchen with all the necessary stuff.
Cons: The property is quite far from the village: about 25 min by foot. It did not disturb me, but it could be an inconvenient for some. There is a bus stop not far away. The room is bigger than usual but basic. On the website, it is mentioned of futon. In reality, two single folding beds, not very stable. A couple would have some problems playing together in such conditions.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location superb and quiet. Free transfers to/from ferry. Room spacious. Easy walk distance to museums and arthouse project sites.
Cons: Cooking facilities appreciated but limited to microwave.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was brilliant! We had bicycles and we did a bit of riding around to see everything. The place is in a quiet part of the island and the sunrise was beautiful.
Cons: nothing.

Pool was closed and we were not permitted to use. No use of balcony allowed. No cable tv. Not what you would expect from a hotel this size.
7.5 Good

Cons: No other attractions nearby except the beach. It's suitable for people looking to spend sometime at the beach but we were only using it as a stopover from Naoshima to Osaka.
6.7 Good

Guesthouse Shell - Naoshima - Building

7.9 Good (260 reviews)

9.0 Excellent
Pros: Super clean and convenient.
6.7 Good
Pros: Easy to find and amazingly comfortable duvets! Owner seemed nice and provided a basic breakfast free of charge.
Cons: It’s very expensive for what it is- we’ve stayed in much better places in Japan for a lot less. We had it to ourselves so it was fine but there are only 2 bathrooms/2 toilets, so if the ?4 rooms were full there could be quite a queue. Whilst you can leave your bags you’re not allowed to check in before 5pm which is the latest check in we have experienced In all our 5 months of travelling. You are expected to be out by 10am as well which is early considering the late checkin.
5.8 Okay
Pros: discent breakfast, quit large room, close to the pier.
Cons: the hosts arn't in the place, and they wrote they will come at 20:00-21:00 to colect the money. we came earlier to our room to be in this range of time but pperently they came before, so it was a bit oqward when they came again at 22:00 just for us. also the breakfast is in the kitchen in baskests, but without the names, so we didn't understood what is our breakfast.. also, we were askes to not pass with our suitcase on the floor, and to cary it above the floor :(
7.1 Good
Pros: I can live like a local Japanese style.
Cons: This property doesn’t accept the card, cash only.
6.7 Good
Pros: clean
Cons: a small guesthouse with five rooms and a tiny kitchen. relatively expensive owing to the Triennial
