Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews
Cons: "No inflight meal, no inflight entertainment for 10 hrs onboard."
Pros: "Friendly crew"
Cons: "Lack of food for long haul flight. Had to pay to eat. 43 dollars and only able to pay with debit/credit card rather than cash"
Pros: "On time"
Cons: "Charging customers for meals on a transatlantic flight is a terrible way to nickel and dime your customers for the most basic provisions. Not all travellers carry accepted credit cards, including the woman sitting beside me. Because it is so common (formally standardized) for airlines to provide food on longer flights, many travellers assume their WestJet flight will the same and arrive unprepared. I normally love WestJet for their customer service, but these flight attendants talked down to customers with legitimate questions. I am choosing another airline for my next international flight, although reluctantly so - I hope to see some changes from WestJet for a more comfortable flight."
Pros: "I didn't!"
Cons: "Late, late, late! I was a prisoner in my seat."
Pros: "Sensible ticket price"
Cons: "Leaving Gatwick 30 minutes late had us miss our planned Halifax to Toronto. The next flight was 4.5 hours later. After a trans Atlantic, that is horrid."
Pros: "Most of the crew were nice. Captain very informative."
Cons: "It was freezing! The headphones they rented me didn’t work, or maybe it was the tablet—could barely hear the movie."
Pros: "Boarding etc was organized and efficient."
Cons: "Did not find the crew helpful or friendly."
Pros: "For a long flight, WestJet is the way to go! Many flights were involved in our vacation. WestJet stands out above and beyond all the rest. And what a relief, since we took WestJet for our in August flight to and from Europe. Simply no comparison in all the various aspects of a flying experience."
Cons: "The seats are comfortable, for a tall person, the legroom is Apple, climate controls are good, the service is fantastic, everything about it! These people know what they’re doing The seats are comfortable, for a tall person, the legroom is Apple, climate controls are good, the service is fantastic, everything about it! These people know what they’re doing!"
Pros: "Enough space for long legs."
Cons: "Need more variety in snacks on the longer trips."
Cons: "Haven’t yet reached our destination, it’s our honeymoon and would have hoped to have got ther by now instead of which we are having to layover in Vancouver until the next flight because of delays on first Leg of journey we missed connecting flight"
Pros: "The crew. Very friendly and helpful"
Cons: "The food. Pizza was bad."
Pros: "I would give the crew 10 stars if I could! This was by far one of the best flights I’ve ever been on. I’m not a fan of having to pay/rent an iPad for entertainment, and it was a bit cold for my taste(I also had to pay for a tiny blanket). However, other than those two very minor things, it was a wonderful flight. I have never flown with a better crew, you could really tell they all actually enjoy their jobs. I loved that the pilot had a great sense of humor, he told a few funny jokes after we landed(while we were taxiing) it definitely helped make the time pass faster & I honestly think it put everyone in a good mood :) I have never been more satisfied with a flight. I will most definitely recommend WestJet to everyone I know, and will be my first choice for flying myself."
Cons: "I didn’t like that I had to pay/rent an iPad for entertainment. I was disappointed that I had to pay for a blanket & that the blanket was so small. In flight WiFi was kind for expensive and didn’t work very well, it kept disconnecting and the only thing that really worked was iMessage. Having said that, overall it was a great flight! :)"
Pros: "The flight attendants were wonderful. The macaroni and cheese was tasty."
Cons: "The plane is so old that you can only use the entertainment system on your phone, which gets tiring to hold up in front of you. Even though I was on a 10 hour flight, meals were not provided."
Pros: "Inexpensive average airline"
Cons: "Pay for everything from food to bags, still better than Ryan air"
Pros: "Despite an ontime boarding, weather (thunderstorms) and air traffic congestion left us stuck on the tarmac for over 3 hours. Kudos to the captain for keeping us informed of every development and for taking the initiative to negotiate a southern flight plan routing that allowed us eventually to depart when other flights were being cancelled due to congestion in Heathrow airspace to the north. West Jet also put together a special team in Toronto to rebook passengers with connecting flights to later flights. This meant they had a new boarding pass ready and waiting for me by the time I got to Toronto, so the disruption was minimized."
Cons: "I had counted on buying my meal on the plane, so had not purchased any beforehand. Unfortunately, we ended up delayed on the tarmac for over 3 hours and they ran out of hot meals before they reached my seat row. I had to make do with crackers, cheese and fruit as my dinner. Lesson learned: always reserve my meal (or buy one) before boarding my flight - you never know what kind of delays will occur. To be fair, the crew did offer me a free glass of wine to go with it, which was a nice touch."
Cons: "Unable to hear updates from the crew. Sounded garbled"
Pros: "Crew was very pleasant"
Cons: "As it was a budget flight, all food had to be purchased and the cost was high for the quality received"
Pros: "I liked the fact that boarding was a good experience"
Cons: "The fact that the plane was supposed to land at 3.35pm and we actually landed at 4:40 and for some reason we waited to get off the plane with no apology from anyone. The service was not satisfactory and they broke our stroller."
Pros: "Crew, as usual, were the best thing about this trip"
Cons: "Chairs are not that comfortable"
Pros: "Seats. Great crew members"
Cons: "Having to pay for everything"
Pros: "The basics were all up to standard, the flight was very full and because it's such a long flight it is expected to have a few discomforts from time to time..."
Cons: "TURN DOWN THE VOLUME on the announcements, it was so loud I could feel the book I was holding in my hands literally vibrating. I had to plug my ears to tolerate the blasts over the PA. I requested the volume be turned down repeatedly but it was never changed... from London to Calgary. More frequent offers for food/beverage would be appreciated, there were only two rounds made for the entire flight of almost 9hrs. It's just nice to have a bit more flexibility..."
Pros: "Very fast today"
Cons: "Man these flights are boring"
Cons: "Food charges + hours to wait for a hot drink (tea)"
Pros: "Piot gave clear and timely announcements as flight was delayed do to weather,. In-flight crew were friendly and providing a relaxing environment. The include meal was very good."
Cons: "Plane is showing its age. Bathroom was in terrible condition."
Pros: "The economy class seats were surprisingly comfortable."
Cons: "It's a personal taste thing, but I don't like flights where it is necessary to separately purchase all the normal things that other airlines provide on international flights (blankets, wine, food, etc). I'm sure others appreciate that level of economy, however."
Pros: "Re-booked on Westjet after my WOW airlines was cancelled. Didn't know what to expect - pleasantly surprised, Great service from top to bottom leaving Gatwick Airport. Will make them my top preference in searching future flights out that way."
Cons: "Nothing - the entire experience (check-in, flight, deplaning) exceeded my expectations."
Pros: "Plane was clean"
Cons: "Waitjet did not perform preventative maintenance and had to change a tire at Gatwick delaying flight by 2 hours with terrible/late/inaccurate information about when flight would resume = FAIL Result was overnite in Toronto. Lets see how the 6:45 (3446) goes ?"
Cons: "It wasnt possible to connect to entertainment system or wifi even though I had paid for wifi"
Pros: "Cancelled the flight and was utter chaos with no direction what so ever."
Cons: "Staff would not communicate with the passenger's."
Pros: "The price"
Cons: "Delays, poorly managed. Ridiculous solutions. A flight that last about 7:30 hours. Turned 36 hours. Bad experience."
Pros: "It was a smaller aircraft and the staff were friendly"
Cons: "was right at the back of the plane and could not hear the announcements clearly."
Cons: "ONE WAY TICKET Vancouver TO Tel Aviv was about $560 c.d -all- included. Went well 3 flights well. Ticket back from Tell Aviv took 4 flights , around $900cd . had to pick-up the suitcase each airport.., and pay for the suit case separately.."
Pros: "Friendly staff."
Cons: "Delays. Canadian debit card not accepted on flights even though an American debit card was."
Pros: "I will never travel with west jet again"
Cons: "Everything Staff was so rude"
Pros: "Exact on time."
Cons: "Refreshment should have more choices"
Pros: "Glad I could rent a tablet"
Cons: "Flight was delayed"
Cons: "That the fare advertised didn’t include a seat or a suitcase. Very unfair comparison."
Cons: "I don’t understand how Westjet can get away with 1. Not providing food on a flight of this length, 2. Charging for the entertainment system which has basically no content"
Pros: "Decent selection of movies."
Cons: "No meal included in 7hrs oversea trip. They had 3 services - two snacks and one coffee only.othereise, food was for purchase only. No checked luggage included."
Pros: "No Comments."
Cons: "The Female Stewardesses either conveniently did not see me sitting in the middle row seats, or perhaps had other alternative means. I felt totally and absolutely ignored, particularly when Meals and Beverages were being served."
Pros: "Friendly crew"
Cons: "Terrible food options. Sandwiches and croissants vastly overpriced: $8 for a croissant ($1) with a slice of cheese (25cents) and ham (50 cents) is ridiculous. Flight delayed on the ground for 1 1/2 hours."
Pros: "More leg space than I was used to and pretty spacious bathrooms (I'm 6'5")"
Cons: "The purchased Wi-Fi went down immediately and didn't come back up until 8 hours into the 10 hour flight."
Pros: "Great crew"
Cons: "Entertainment system was playing up"
Pros: "The crew and their attitude"
Cons: "The planes are worn out with the result that they often have mechanical problems. When the new promised planes arrive this will be a great service. The saving grace of the current service really is the personnel, unlike US carriers if they can help they will."
Cons: "The toilets were very dirty"
Pros: "The crew were nice"
Cons: "The gate in LGW was one of the farthest in the aiport. The flight ia 8.5 hours and the ticket is not cheap. But you have to pay for everything. Even onvboard entertainment. The only free thing is the soft drinks and that is even rationed. I flew with worst airline and for long flight they at least give a free meal."
Pros: "The return flight was acceptable. seats were comfortable. Would recommend on spending the extra $$ on get extra legroom seats."
Cons: "Flying out on December 24, the airline kept us at the airport for 6 (including 2 hours on the plane) hours before cancelling the flight because they could not get water pressure to the washrooms. We were supposed to leave for London (LHR) at 8:35pm and were notified of the cancellation at approx 2am on December 25. The only other flight that would be available would be on December 25 at the same time the 24th flight was supposed to leave. The service desk was not taking any requests for finding or re-booking flights, we were supposed to call their support number at 7am on the following day. We were offered cab fare accommodation from and back to the airport. They offered hotel stay which I passed on. They provided $60 of airport food that could only be used at certain restaurants, not compatible to purchase chips or drinks (non-alcoholic) from other stores. The coupons as compared to Air Canada, which are valid for a year were only valid for 24 hours. In the end the only "monetary" compensation I got from WestJet was 250 westjet dollars that expire in 12 months."
Pros: "Comfortable flight, good service."
Cons: "The size and quantity of carry on luggage needs to be restricted. The actual size and number of pieces needs to be enforced. The serving of liquor to passengers should be better monitored."
Pros: "Crew as always with air Canada were very accommodating. Always smiling!"
Cons: "Not enough movie options"
Pros: "on time"
Pros: "New plane in the excellent condition. Leg room in economy not bad. Crew friendly and efficient. Boarding worked well."
Cons: "The main meal was pretty dreadful. Grilled chicken with what I think was mashed potato, but it was difficult to be sure. Watery and tasteless. Accompanied bizarrely by a tomato sauce (which did taste of something). Hard to identify the ethnicity."
Cons: "baggage delayed at least 48 hours"
Pros: "Really nice comfortable seats, amazing windows larger then usually with new technology. Food was ok. It was nice that crew constantly was offering drinks"
Cons: "See above - seats worn out, entertainment worn out, Crew battling old tired aircraft. Massively overpriced. Bring on WestJet direct to Ottawa."
Pros: "Exept food everything was awesome"
Pros: "Beautiful new 787"
Cons: "Entertainment options could be more plentiful."
Pros: "I am 6ft 1 / 185cm and the leg room was OK for an economy flight. Food was OK for airplane food. Staff were very friendly. Overall very happy."
Pros: "Clean, friendly crew remembered how we had our tea/coffee from the earlier service"
Cons: "Economy is never very comfortable but was better than a lot of other airlines"
Pros: "Air Canada is fantastic. Will never use air india."
Cons: "I liked everything about AirCanada and nothing about Airindia."
Pros: "Crew were good"
Cons: "Seats were too tight. Entertainment was mediocre"
Cons: "I wasn’t able to check in online and therefore wasn’t able to update with my dietary requirements which meant I couldn’t really eat anything that was given. I was told at the airport that it needs to be submitted 24 hrs before the flight and there was nothing they could do. Really unfair and not on."
Pros: "The hot dinner was good"
Cons: "The pudding was poor, it was just a wrapped cookie. The movie selection was terrible! Most of the films were very old!"
Pros: "great service from start to finish would use again"
Pros: "its was smooth"
Pros: "Everything went very very well."
Cons: "High cost Toronto Airport meals and beverages."
Pros: "The food was delicious"
Cons: "Old movies. Nothing recent"
Pros: "Boarding was very well-organised ands clearly explained."
Cons: "USB socket broken and non-functioning. Plastic fork snapped and shed tines. A truly ghastly movie selection."
Cons: "Toronto international airport was very crowded. too many people , not enough facilities. You have to line up to do anything, even buy a bottle water."
Pros: "Liked everything about this new class of service on Air Canada. Seat was comfortable with good recline that didn't interfere with fellow passengers. Food was excellent, entertainment system was well stocked, flight attendants were friendly and high energy. Even got to use lounge and fast-track security lane at Heathrow."
Cons: "Zero complaints."
Cons: "They could have done the boarding different. There was a bit confusion about when to board."
Pros: "Of the five planes we were on, all but one had comfortable seating (I'm 6'1" tall)"
Cons: "The lady helping us through the Toronto airport between flights made my wife cry. We had to stop to go to the restroom on the way to our gate, and the lady complained when I waited to go in after my wife came out. I told her I was going to do that, but she was apparently pre-occupied when I told her, because she was looking right at me when I said it. I then told her that I had let her know that was my plan, but she denied it, then told my wife she was just one of a hundred people. This left my wife in tears. This was a stain on an otherwise good flying experience, but it' tarnished the whole."
Cons: "Why not board front to rear. It would save mega aisle clog during boarding!"
Cons: "flight was cancelled and I was offered a flight through Montreal with Long connections so I cancelled and flew the next day again through Montreal but with better connections"
Cons: "Seats are always too close to the ones in front , crushing knees."
Pros: "Large comfortable seats."
Cons: "You now have to pay for drinks on British Airways flights"
Pros: "Got home safe"
Cons: "Meal -"
Cons: "Very bumpy ride"
Pros: "The 787 aircraft. What a beautiful plane"
Cons: "Calgary airport. NEVER AGAIN!"
Pros: "Good service, nice seat"
Pros: "good overall...so MUCH BETTER THAN Air Canada rouge service we took from Ottawa to Venice. Rouge service is very poor!!"
Pros: "There were no problems. I had an empty seat next to me."
Cons: "Nothing. There were no problems. The screen did lock when I tried to look at the map."
Pros: "Cleanliness, crew (in general)."
Cons: "Problems with entertainment system sound seem to be a recurring problem aboard aircrafts - the jacks seem to be in bad shape in most, whether for the provided eraphones or those brought on board."
Pros: "Getting through customs was very easy."
Cons: "The wine is awful ."
Pros: "Staff and food"
Cons: "We lost one of our bags"
Cons: "Horrible to say the least"
Pros: "Airbus 380"
Pros: "The flight crew seemed very helpful and friendly. The pasta meal was good."
Cons: "Too many people are allowed to bring too much carry-on baggage on board. I saw a family of 3 with 7 large bags using all of the overhead storage space on 2 sides of the aisle. Women were bringing on 2 carry on bags plus their huge, oversized purses. The limits should be strict and enforced- one bag, one personal item. Their selfishness causes problems for other passengers and the flight crew."
Cons: "Different treatment for persenger. Equal things should be treated equally."
Cons: "I found the seats a bit tight."
Pros: "Everything was basically on time."
Cons: "Air canada should still give snacks like west jet."
Pros: "Seats were wide and very comfortable"
Pros: "I really liked how updated the plane was. The wine selection was very good. The entertainment had plenty of things to do - movies and TV shows were updated. I enjoyed the ice cream, that was a very nice treat!"
Cons: "I thought the food was not as good as the flight over to the UK - the mashed potatoes didn't look or taste like it had any real components at all and the bread was a little stale."
Pros: "Generally OK Food quite good, relatively"
Cons: "30 mins delay Cramped even for Economy"
Pros: "Space and meals"
Pros: "Crew tried hard"
Cons: "Boarding process chaotic. Seemed to be a new process that involved multiple checks and was not well organised. Entertainment system had not been loaded with the latest films and we're still from previous month."
Cons: "There were not that many movies to choose from. I expected several hundred. Only a few dozen."
