The hotel staff is friendly and helpful; this is a step up front usual Israeli hotel staff many of which do not understand the concept of customer service. Israeli hotels, especially outside of Tel Aviv are still grappling with this concept. Same for retail and food stores.
Unfortunately, Israel is great at building things but very poor at maintaining them. The Crowne Plaza is typical was built but 15 years ago and is already starting to look shoddy around the edges. We noticed that mold is starting to appear, especially in the bathrooms, and the wood trim is beginning to rot away; Haifa can be quite humid during certain times of the year. Also, the hotels A/C is either on or off, no temperature settings other than 4 settings indicating warmer or colder; after that is just stays on blowing. Friends of ours stayed at a competing Dan hotel, but the situation is the same. They characterized it as a "tired" Hyatt.
