It was clean

It was so noisy. Sirens every 5 minutes, people in the halls. They even supply ear plugs how about upgrading the windows. No room service Shady area. Expensive. Should have went back to the Fairmont. Same price. Much better hotel.

I stayed at the Nikko Hotel for one night during the Nike Women's Half Marathon. Not only was a beautiful, and luxurious hotel but it was also in the perfect location in Union Square for the Nike Women's Half Marathon and Expotique. The customer service was phenomenal and they even extended check out for NWM participants. This was great because it enabled us to shower before our journey home. Thank you Nikko Hotel for such top notch accommodations! I will definitely stay here again next year!

Lots of people in the bar. The hotel is maze-like. Staff was friendly.

There was in unwanted and unneeded cot in our bed. There was a church bell that rang 15 times at both 7 and 8 am. the wall art was dorky. No fan in the bathroom. There was a cottage cheese cieling. But the bed was super comfy. The hotel was fine but way too expensive for what we got.

If you're looking for convenience and a great location with amazing customer service, pay the extra cash and stay at the the Marriott Marquis. The convenience and hospitality here was amazing. I felt like I was treated like a VIP while staying in a basic room. Housekeeping was gracious, and welcoming coming and going every single day. Anytime I needed the smallest of things they were delivered promptly (toothpaste, towels, silverware, soaps, etc). I needed some mail delivered, they took it for me. Anytime my girlfriend and I needed directions or suggestions on great places to go the information desk were our saviors. VERY knowledgeable about the entirety of San Fran. The 55th floor bar has a great view of the city, the bartender was also great. There is a little convenient store as well as Starbucks located on the main floor for convenience. Great hotel!

long lines at front desk and crowded lobby--i believe b/c free wifi was only available in the lobby. room and bathroom was clean, well-kept and quiet overall. some difficulty in adding people to the room and getting a mini-fridge in the room for medical purposes. definitely a destination for conferences and business meetings.

they changed my room upon making the complaint.

location was horrible. very scary ....for the money I paid this location is not acceptable. I was attacked by homeless angry people couple times . One time I had to run for my life also the place was pretty old and there was a smell in the rooms. no fridge. at the time of check in , the price for the room that you can get the room was cheaper for $25.00 than what priceline gave me

I liked that we were able to find a great place on such short notice. The Manager on Duty, I think her name was Susan, was very helpful after one of the reservation agent accidentally mixed up our checkout time- and another Agent Brandon wasn't very kind to us. I ate most of my meals at the hotel, breakfast lunch and dinner- and I had three different bartender/servers during my stay that were all so very pleasant. Some even gave me directions to buy a hoodie at a nearby store because I didn't realize it would be colder there this time of year still. And the chef made me an awesome salad when I wanted to exchange tuna for chicken on the salad that comes with Lemon Dressing- it was absolutely fantastic. I highly recommend this substitution as the combination of greens and dressing go amazing with Tuna! It will cost you 2 dollars more as Tuna is more expensive (rightfully so) but it I ate the entire thing. I couldn't stop myself.

Other than the mixup on our checkout time- I was happy with my stay overall.

It was clean, well-appointed, in a great, central location, comfortable & staffed with friendly, welcoming, helpful staff. They even had a phone/MP3 dock w/ speakers & alarm by the bed, which was really nice & handy.

As with most SF hotels the price is a little steep, but more reasonable than many. The cable cars were a little noisy, but didn't really bother us. Valet was over $50 for 24 hrs, but that's kinda how it goes in SF.

Good value for the money. While other hotels may be a little closer in, this one was well within walking distance of everything we were interested in and the price was significantly lower. There was nothing lost quality wise. The room was very nice and quiet. The personnel behind the desk and concierge were very friendly and helpful.

The location is great- right by Powell Street BART, Muni, and Cable Car. In the heart of Union Square, pretty touristy but tons of options close by. The rooms weren't too small, they were clean and comfortable. For less street noise ask for an interior room. The staff was friendly and there is a Restaraunt and cafe right in the lobby (we only had pastry at the cafe.) For a mid range hotel centrally located the Villa Florence is a good choice.

The television needed to be reset and Powell street is very busy.

(1) Rooms at lower levels are noisy from the people in the street. (2) It had no parking counter to what advertised. They push on you a mandatory valet at approximately $40/day. (3) Internet is free for 20 min a day. Nevertheless, when you use it, at their business center, they have a slow mode option you do not know of. You find out at the check out that the default option, you thought was free for 20 min, is the fast option that cost approximately $1/min. (3) The streets in front of the hotel are full with homeless people who use the sidewalks like sleeping quarters and restrooms. For the rest, it was peachy.

Super nice and playful front desk staff. I happened to mention it was my boyfriends birthday and the concierge offered to fill the room with balloons and a free bottle of wine! And they set it up as a surprise for when we got back from dinner! The car service was excellent, the decor was really nice- Indian type theme but clean and chic! Organic coffee and tea in the room, shampoo conditioner and shower gel in dispensers instead of minis to be more Eco friendly! I couldn't have been happier with our stay.

I didn't like the price, but that's to be expected in San Francisco! The building is old so the walls seems paper thin to outside noise, but not really from room to room, so didn't mind the sound of cars and people walking.

Nothing stands out.

The entire hotel smells of cigarette smoke, the carpets and other upholstery look worn, the rooms are dark, we were put in a room that was intended for a person in a wheelchair and weren't told so, only to discover later that the showerhead was at waist height, making for a very unsatisfactory shower. The walls were thin, so we could hear a party in the room next door. And the popularity of the club at the top level meant that we had to wait for a very long time to get an elevator to our room.

I help a business conference, and the meeting room staff catered it well and the space was great

The internet connection if you don't pay for your wifi is horrendous. None of my 20 employee's could get connected to the normal verizon/ATT service connections. Also, I had a billing issue that no one at the front desk could help with or seemed interested in helping with (I wanted to change the card billed, and I got an insane runaround between Kayak and your hotel). I tired to get front desk to call Kayak with me, and they told me I needed to figure it out.

The rooms were small but nice. It suited our needs and there were recent renovations.

The staff was very rude when checking out. There was miscommunication when talking about parking fees. The signs they have are misleading and she was being a "b" when talking to us. I would not go back just because of her.

Prices are average price per night of stay and may not include taxes and fees. "Total" includes our estimate of the taxes and fees. Please verify the total cost on the provider's site before you complete your reservation. Prices and availability are not guaranteed.

Here's why:

At KAYAK we don’t set prices, so it’s not possible for us to guarantee what other companies are selling.

We aggregate tonnes of data for you
Our service lets you quickly and easily compare results from hundreds of travel sites at once. In this sense, KAYAK is a search engine and we don't guarantee prices we find.

Why aren’t prices accurate 100% of the time?
Prices on airline seats, hotel rooms and car hires can change frequently. Several people may also be trying to buy the same travel option simultaneously. As a result, you may find on occasion that certain prices are no longer available.

San Francisco

The weather shapes San Francisco, rolling over the terrace houses in swathes of mist, and gusting up its narrow streets. All that fog and wind gives the city a special energy which, coupled with a huge range of activities, will inspire and invigorate you.

From harbour to hills

San Francisco is wrapped by a spectacular harbour and a great way to get your bearings is to wander along the waterfront, starting in Embarcadero and making your way to Fisherman’s Wharf. Book-lovers might want to start at City Lights Bookstore, a literary haven that was at the centre of the Beat Generation, while anyone with a curious mind should make time to stop off at Pier 15 at the Exploratorium science museum. Be prepared to spend longer than planned – the interactive exhibits are enthralling for kids and adults alike. Reaching Fisherman’s Wharf, you’ll soon see that the historic heart of the fishing community is now the city’s touristic heart, where you can buy postcards and souvenirs, set off on a boat trip out to Alcatraz, or simply grab a fresh crab sandwich and watch the crowds go by.

From the wharf, ride a famous San Francisco cable car up the steep streets, past colourful wooden terrace houses, then make your way to the Haight and Lower Haight districts, where remnants of the bohemian 70s are still clearly visible among the burgeoning cafe and boutique scene. Music lovers will be impressed by the huge record collection at Amoeba Music. The symbol of San Francisco is the Golden Gate Bridge, a feat of engineering and a spectacular sight when the afternoon fog rolls up the harbour. Take a walk across the bridge, or admire the sight from the shore, then make your way to Golden Gate Park to find the Conservatory of Flowers and Japanese Tea Garden, or to put your feet up in the lush grass and watch San Franciscans skate, jog, and walk past. At night seek out dinner in colourful Chinatown, then relax with a craft beer at the Anchor Brewing Company, or head to any one of the city’s fantastic bars.

Where to stay

San Francisco has accommodation to suit all tastes, from sleek high-rises, to eco-minded hostels, to cosy bed and breakfasts in terrace houses. Fisherman’s Wharf is central, while the Marina has a more typical San Francisco feel. The Haight-Ashbury and Mission are colourful and interesting, packed with eateries, theatres, and bars.

Getting around

Many of San Francisco’s main attractions are within walking distance of each other, but the city is served well by public transport. Buses, streetcars, and the historic cable cars are provided by Muni within the city limits, while regional transport company BART operates the subway and regional trains. The airport is a 30 minute train trip from the city.
