car Was better than I expected

Cons:

1) Alamo found one of the types to have a chip out of it so keep our GBP 300 deposit. Absolutely certain it was not us who did that ( we only did 60 miles and the car was left in secure parking over night). ......double and triple check before you hire! Video your car,

The tires were under inflated -warning lights came on, had to turn around and I had to go back to the rental place to fix it! Otherwise everything was great!

Had to rate as poor across the board. When I booked the hire car through Kayak, the confirmation email clearly stated that Third Party Insurance was included. When I arrived to collect the car, I was told this was not the case and effectively there was no Third Party Insurance on my booking, and the excess was £100,000 unless I agreed to pay a further £280 in additional insurances. I hire cars frequently and am well aware of the different levels of insurance to consider - but I was careful to book a car where the Third Party Insurance was included. I couldn’t believe it when the team at Europcar ignored what was on the booking form and maintained that it was not, and that I would be liable for the large amount excess in the case of any incident. I refused to drive the car on that basis and currently am left over £500 out of pocket for this non refundable booking. Won’t use Europcar (or Kayak) again.

The exterior of the car was dirty, with bird droppings on it. Otherwise, the only other issue was that the car kept falsely showing low rear tire pressure.

Allied car rental in San Juan Peurto Rico is a rip off. They made me buy their insurance, $10 a day, when mine said I was totally covered and made me buy toll coverage $10 a day. Later we saw we could have paid toll at the toll stations and it was $1 and only if you left San Juan. None of this was explained by kayak. I should have just rented from the airport, it would have been $30 a day and allowed my insurance and they are right there no shuttle.

Car was very comfortable, clean , more than enough power, pick up was sooo easy, drop off a little disappointing as there were no persons on the counter and we really wanted to know about the deposit return. In the end we had to drop the key and run for our boarding, but was sorted very easy next day by phone call.

Had a great overall experience with Arnold Clark except for the pickup. Pickup location at airport is terrible and confusing. After calling and getting direction we finally found it, but then the driver missed us and left us standing in the rain. Had to call a second time to get picked up. Otherwise it was all good.

Our original car, Peugeot 2008 was mechanically faulty. The clutch broke and caused the car the inability to move 15/20 minutes after picking up the vehicle. Lots of smoke etc. We were on a motorway at the time, No verge so a dangerous area to stop, we called recovery and after an hour a tow truck was sent, We returned to our pick point and eventually were given a new vehicle, We are from overseas. This did cause some distress to me ( the driver). Also having to pay £65 to return the car to a different location a half hour away was I thought an unnecessary expense.

I was able to choose the exact car I wanted and was even able to reserve a cooler and boogie board to use for the week. The car was in like-new condition. The free shuttle was convenient, fast and the drivers were nice. The location was a little bit further from the airport, but it wasn't a problem.

It was the first time we rented via Turo, so I don't have a good base reference to compare in general, and can only compare to car rental experiences with commercial fleets (like Budget or Enterprise). In general it was okay -- we made it to where we were going and back, with no major issues. It's doable. However, there were some "surprises" where things didn't quite got as we expected: * We made rental reservation with expectation that we're picking up at the airport. When we got there, it turned out that the car is not at the airport, and the address given to us turned out to be what seemed to be Portland's airport Fire Rescue Tower (where, obviously, we can't even walk to or be at). We called the owner, and turned out that the car is at some house that's "not far" from the airport, and gave us new address. So additional expense of taking Uber/Lyft to get to the car (and apparently that address exists in two neighboring towns, and somehow Uber/Lyft took us first to the wrong one, so we had to take another ride, but that's not a Turo issue, just more expense as a consequence of car not being at the airport as promised). * When we got there, we called the owner to get the keys: "-- Keys are under front door's floormat. -- Nope, they're not there. -- Then try mailbox? -- Yes, they're there." The owner wasn't there, which is okay to do this all remote, but would be nicer if owner was in general "on top of things" such as where the car is and where it is expected to be picked up, where exactly are its keys, etc. * Then owner requested that prior to return we take the car to be washed and cleaned inside and out. We neither planned on looking for car detailing places in Portland, nor for time that it would take away from sightseeing, nor for extra substantial expense it would be. We pushed back and the owner backed off saying that he'll let it go due to confusion with pickup location (and apparently he didn't send some email that he was supposed to send, or something along those lines). * And while the car wasn't too dirty, it wasn't clean to begin with (which made detailing request that more amusingly odd). Crumbs on floor and seats and luggage compartment. Worst part was that windshield was dirty on the inside that was minor unpleasant at daytime, but as driving progressed into night time, it was quite significant as it was blurring lights and affected visibility substantially. * We also added additional driver thru Turo and let the owner know. The owner requested that we send him picture of drivers license directly to him. We refused (as it didn't seem right, given that Turo is the one that manages that aspect) and he backed off. * Of course, additional expense of Uber/Lyft after return drop-off as we weren't dropping it off at the airport as originally planned. So all in all we probably spent additional $50-60 in Uber/Lyft for getting to and from cars location instead of it being in the airport, and lost about 3+ hours for dealing with additional unplanned travel. The rest was okay. Car drove fine and didn't give any problems.
