Charlotte is the county seat of the Mecklenburg County in North Carolina. Charlotte is a few miles to the east of the Catawba River and is near man-made lakes such as Mountain Island Lake and Lake Wylie.
On the west side of Charlotte visitors can land at the Douglas International Airport. A bus line connects the airport with the centre of town. The Charlotte Amtrak station is at the N Tryon near Dalto. North Carolina is five hours behind GMT. Charlotte has a subtropical climate with significant temperature disparity between the seasons. The months between March and May are a better time to visit when there is still a good amount of sunshine and the rainfall is a little lower.
There are a good variety of museums to visit during Charlotte holidays. The Mint Museum consists of the Mint Museum RANDOLPH and the Mint Museum UPTOWN which together showcase art and design. Discovery Place is a science museum where visitors can step into a rainforest and watch hydrogen balloons explode. The Levine Museum of the New South gives a good overview of the south's history. The Carolinas Aviation Museum, at Charlotte-Douglas, displays a variety of restored airplanes and stages air shows.
Charlotte also has a variety of theatre venues including the Actor's Theatre of Charlotte, which presents a diverse range of musicals and dramas and the Carolina Actor's Studio Theatre which incorporates multi-media into its productions and has a rotating stage. There are also a number of golf courses for visitors to play at during their Charlotte holidays. The Rocky River Golf Club and Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation are two of the more notable 18-hole golf courses in Charlotte. Also check out the U.S. National Whitewater Center where visitors can go kayaking, canoeing and whitewater rafting.
