Nestled on the northeast coast of Rhodes between Rhodes Town (the island's capital) and Faliraki (the island's party capital), Kalithea is perfectly positioned to offer the best of all worlds. The resort itself - which translates into English as 'great view' - is positioned around a charming cove and is dotted with a modest collection of luxury hotels, friendly restaurants and chilled out bars. The main beach is a sand and shingle mix which slopes gently into the glinting blue Mediterranean Sea. As well as providing the perfect playground for all manner of watersports, the crystal clear waters off Kalithea (and the rocky outcrops ringing the coves) afford fantastic scuba diving and snorkelling opportunities.
Rhodes enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate of long, dry summers and mild winters. The hottest months are July and August when temperatures can rise from their average of 25°C right up to the high thirties. For visitors wanting to return home with a guaranteed tan then Kalithea holidays are a good bet – this part of the Mediterranean receives an average of 12 hours of sunshine per day in the summer months so the visitor would be wise to invest in plenty of sunscreen!
Kalithea's main appeal is it's laid back charm. While the watersports, activities, restaurants and bars in and around the resort are more than enough to keep visitors amused and entertained, they are by no means 'full-on'. For those who feel like having a big night out then Faliraki's charms are easy to sample as it is literally just down the road. Similarly, Rhodes Town is only 10km away so it too is easy enough to reach for a bit of retail therapy or seeing some sights (the Palace of the Grand Masters, Mosque of Suleiman and cobbled Street of the Knights are all well worth seeing).
