Jet2 holiday organised and now planning what to pack? Every airline’s cabin bag allowance is unique, so it’s important to understand what you can take aboard before heading to the airport. Here’s your guide to all things Jet2 hand luggage.
What are Jet2’s hand luggage measurement restrictions?
Below are the exact dimensions of the hand luggage you can take on a Jet2 flight. Every passenger can take both a personal item that fits under the seat and a cabin bag aboard for free. For some flights, you can pay an additional fee to pre-book Guaranteed Cabin Luggage. This means your cabin bag won’t be put into the hold on busy flights that run out of overhead space.
Jet2 hand luggage need-to-know
- Examples of a personal item include a handbag, laptop bag or an airport purchase. It must go under the seat in front of you for the duration of the flight and should meet the Jet2 personal item size policy outlined above.
- Jet2 hand luggage dimensions include wheels and handles, so be sure to measure carefully before packing.
- If your cabin bag weighs more than 10kg or is larger than the given dimensions, it will need to be checked into the plane’s hold and you will have to pay an additional charge – not the best way to start your holiday.
- Need more luggage allowance? No problem. Pay an additional fee for a checked luggage allowance of 22kg. You’ll be charged £12 per kilogram over this, up to 32kg – a great option for long haul flights and holidays spanning more than one week.
What else can I take on board my flight?
There are some items that you can take aboard a Jet2 flight that don’t need to be included within your hand luggage allowance. These are:
- Two pieces of mobility equipment that are essential. Requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis, taking into account individual needs.
- Essential medications. Those in quantities over 100ml must be certified as authentic by a doctor’s letter and should be in their original containers.
- Baby milk (powdered or liquid form), baby food nappies and wipes.
What about travelling with children?

When it comes to Jet2 cabin bags, infants under two years old don’t get a separate bag allowance. However, an extra 10kg of weight allowance can be added to an accompanying adult’s 22kg hold bag for free. This is applicable for each infant and adult pairing on a Jet2 booking. For children over two years old, the same luggage policies apply as with adults.
A collapsible pram, car seat and/or a travel cot can be put in the hold free of charge if the total weight is 10kg or less. If the total weight is above this, you will be charged in line with Jet2’s excess baggage policy. Like most airlines, you can take these items with you all the way to the plane steps or air bridge. They will then be taken by the airline’s team to be put into the hold.
Can I take my pet on a Jet2 flight?
Pets aren’t allowed on Jet2 flights, with the exception of assistance dogs. Registered assistance dogs can fly free of charge when accompanying a passenger with disabilities or additional needs. For the flight, the dog can be on the floor space near the passenger and won’t have its own seat. To bring an assistance dog aboard, call the assisted travel team at least seven days before travel on 0800 408 5591 or 0203 059 8337.

Top three tips for Jet2 hand luggage
Careful planning is the key to a smooth airport and flight experience – and getting your hand luggage preparation perfected before you arrive at the airport is the way to do it! Here are some tips on perfecting your hand luggage allowance with Jet2.
1. Queue up when called for boarding to avoid your cabin bag going into hold
Jet2 offers Guaranteed Cabin Luggage as an extra add-on for a fee, which means your cabin bag won’t be put into the hold on busy flights that run out of overhead space. If you don’t want to pay for this but still want to keep your hand luggage with you, board your flight as soon as possible to optimise your chances.
Keeping your cabin bag nearby takes away any possible stress aboard a flight – especially when you’re travelling with children. Line up as soon as boarding is opened to get the best chance of keeping your bags by you.
2. Travelling in winter with just a personal item? Think about your leg room
Wintery weekend breaks are some of my favourites, but it does mean you end up travelling with bigger items like coats. If you’re braving your trip with just a personal item, remember this will need to go under the seat in front of you for the duration of your flight – and this doesn’t leave space for your coat. Are you happy to wear a coat on your flight, or could a cabin bag be the way to go?
3. Weigh your cabin bag before heading to the airport
Jet2 is strict with its 10kg cabin bag policy, so it’s important to weigh yours at home. Invest in some luggage scales, or use your regular weighing scales for a rougher estimate. Weigh yourself, and then weigh yourself again when holding your cabin bag. This should give you a feel for if your bag is very overweight at least!
