Poltergeists, werewolves and witches, oh my. Oh yes, it’s almost that time.

We know there are some hardcore Halloweenistas out there using KAYAK, and we wanted to make it easy as saying “boo” to get your spook on wherever you’re traveling.

So we looked at a few ideas for the top two US destinations searched on KAYAK for Halloween 2011 – New Orleans and Las Vegas.

The Big Easy’s position as the number one Halloween destination may come as a surprise to those who only associate New Orleans with jazz, the French Quarter and Mardi Gras. The city is more than a masquerade ball: around October 31st, swarms of ghouls and goblins (and apparently tourists) congregate in the city. There’s the three-day Voodoo Music Experience, the Krewe of Boo Halloween Parade, and various vampire-themed parties. After all, Nola is a short ride away from fictional Bon Temps, the hub of True Blood’s vampirely cast.

Vegas is also a great Halloween destination, because in a city of constant excess the parties and costumes are bigger, wilder and just plain outrageous. Take a Titanic Haunted Tour at the Luxor, or check out the Fright Dome at Circus Circus, one of the top five scariest attractions in the country.

If you want a truly paranormal Halloween experience, we’ve got a few special lodging options at your disposal.

But you have to work for it, ok?

First, search hotels with a check-in or check-out date of October 31 for one guest in one of several very creepy locales, and when the results appear filter the price from high to low. Hint, it’s not easy doing the devil’s work… and it’ll cost you exactly $666.

  •  – Amityville, NY – cozy up at The House at Amityville, a pleasant Long Island legend that will leave you truly frightened.
  •  – Southwick, MA – spend your Halloween at the quaint Raven’s Inn, and see that this city is very much alive.
  •  – Tombstone, AZ – cavort and gallivant with the ghosts at The Bird Cage in the aptly named town.
  •  – Palm Desert, CA – Looking for some solitude? You’re sure to get some R&R at The Bates Motel.
