We British are renowned as a pet-loving nation. More than half of UK adults own a pet of some sort, but the most popular is the trusty canine. If you’re anything like me, you wouldn’t even consider going on holiday in the UK without your dogs along for the trip.
Not only do they spread joy (at least I think they do!), but they’ve also helped me discover some unique places to stay. Here are my picks for 10 of the best pet-friendly hotels in the UK, along with some tips from dog lovers within KAYAK and sister brand OpenTable.
Popular dog holidays in the UK

These are the most popular pet-friendly destinations in the UK, as searched for on KAYAK in 2025. Holidaying with our pets is becoming more and more popular in the UK. Barring the odd travelling cat or parrot, that almost always means dogs. With 28% of UK adults owning some 10.6 million dogs between us, it’s easy to see why.
To find hotels where you can stay with your dog, search for a destination on KAYAK and select the ‘pet-friendly’ filter. Or use the Smart Filter to look for dog-friendly hotels.
Based on searches between 2024/07/01 and 2025/06/01 using the pet-friendly filter on KAYAK for the entire year of 2025. All prices are average and subject to change.
The 10 best pet-friendly hotels in the UK
From city centres to windswept clifftops, the UK is full of dog-friendly places to stay. Whatever amenities your hotel offers, it’s always a good idea to bring a few familiar things from home. Treasured toys and blankets can help settle your dog and make your stay smoother for you, your pet and other guests.
I always advise hotels over apartments, at least for short stays. Privately managed rentals seem to have very strict rules around pets and it can often become an issue at the end. Hotels are super straightforward and simple to filter for dog-friendly spots when searching on sites like KAYAK.

According to KAYAK data, London is the number one most searched destination in the UK for pet-friendly hotels. To really spoil your pet in the capital, choose The Rubens at the Palace. This luxury hotel is located across from St. James’s Park and Buckingham Palace, and canine guests are treated like royalty.
Alongside the usual dog perks, a dedicated pet concierge will take care of your dog’s every need. Examples include pet sitting, grooming or even a puppy party to celebrate a special occasion.

2. The Stella, Llandudno

Llandudno, Wales, is another popular spot for dog lovers – and it’s quite budget-friendly too, with the average price of hotels coming in at just over £90 per night. At the Stella thankfully dogs also stay for free!
Rather than being pet-friendly, The Stella is more dog-obsessed. The hotel makes a point of welcoming all dogs with no stigma attached to any breeds or sizes. You won’t find a more welcoming place for your pooch anywhere in the UK.
And Llandudno is doggy heaven. On your doorstep you’ll find the charming Victorian sweep of North Shore beach for brisk walks and chilly swims. Beyond, the Great Orme Walk and Summit offers stunning views and dog-friendly cafés on route.

3. The Hoxton, Edinburgh

- Are dogs allowed in common areas? Yes in the lobby and bars but not in the restaurant

Few hotel brands are as hip as The Hoxton, and that extends to their pet-friendly dog policy. Dogs stay for free “unless they’re a rock star and trash the room,” and can hang out (with their owners) in the hotel bar. At the Hoxton Edinburgh, the rooms are stylish and cosy, and spread across 11 Georgian-style townhouses. Located in Haymarket, Edinburgh Castle and Princes Street are just a short dog walk away.

- What’s included in a dog-friendly stay: Dog menu
- Are dogs allowed in common areas? Yes, within the lobby, bar and a dedicated section of the restaurant
- Any restrictions? Max two dogs per room
For my money, Whitby is one of the best places to take your dog on holiday in the UK. The seven-mile clifftop walk from Whitby to the fishing village of Robin Hood’s Bay is spectacular. Behind, the North Yorkshire Moors are hiking nirvana – for human and beast.
The Stables is perfectly located between Whitby and the Moors. A lovely, relaxed farmhouse affair where it’s likely more guests will have dogs with them than not. If you’re there on a weekend, Rover can join you for a Sunday dinner courtesy of the dedicated Doggy Menu.

5. Langdale Chase, Windermere

- Price to bring a dog: £10 a night (free for service dogs)
- What’s included in a dog-friendly stay: A dog bed, towel, food and water bowls. Homemade treats and a dog menu are also available.
- Are dogs allowed in common areas? Yes in the lounge area, bar and gardens
- Any restrictions? Dogs only allowed in select rooms
Langdale Chase is a beautiful lakeside mansion that feels like it’s stepped from the pages of a Wordsworth poem. It is dramatic, historic and luxurious. Smartly, the dog-friendly rooms are those with the easiest outside access. Doors that open onto gardens and the shore of Lake Windermere for over-excited sprints (human and hound) into the cold waters.
The surrounding Lake District is famously dog-friendly. The variety of walks is mind-boggling, so ask a member of staff where they love to take their own dogs. Everyone I spoke to last time had one and was enthusiastic to share their favourite hikes with me.

6. The Milner, York (formerly The Principal York)

- Price to bring a dog: £30 a night (free for service dogs)
- What’s included in a dog-friendly stay: Dog bed, food and water bowls, treats
- Are dogs allowed in common areas? Everywhere except the Peachey Bar & Grill and the health club
- Any restrictions? One dog only for stays in select rooms
Formerly The Principal York, the historic Milner Hotel is an elegant, old-world-glamorous hotel made over for the modern age.
This hotel is super convenient if you’re travelling by train (you can take up to two dogs free on UK trains) as it’s located in the heart of the city, close to dog-friendly walks around Minster and the museum gardens.
The hotel itself has lovely grounds for before-bed walks, and pets are even welcome in the hotel’s Garden Room restaurant.

7. The Imperial, Blackpool

- Price to bring a dog: £20 a night (free for service dogs)
- What’s included in a dog-friendly stay: Dog breakfast
- Are dogs allowed in common areas? Yes in the lobby, ground floor, No.10 bar and hotel grounds but not in the lounges or Palm Court restaurant
- Any restrictions? Max two dogs for stays in select rooms
Blackpool is famously dog friendly and teems with family-run, pet-welcoming hotels, guesthouses and B&Bs. It also boasts the cheapest average nightly hotel stays on this list, according to KAYAK data.
A recent convert is the grand old Imperial Hotel, which now has a dedicated dog-friendly package stay. Located on Blackpool’s long promenade, it’s just a quick jump to the year-round dog-friendly sand beach. After an early morning walk (and swim!), the hotel will set up a dedicated table in the Derby Room so you can breakfast with Fido.

8. Moonfleet Manor, Weymouth

- Price to bring a dog: £25 a night (free for service dogs)
- What’s included in a dog-friendly stay: Dog bowl, bed, tennis ball, treats, A La Bark dog menu
- Are dogs allowed in common areas? Yes in the lobby, dedicated lounges and dining room, and hotel grounds. Not in the Play Barn, swimming pool, Den, cinema, children’s play area and restaurant
- Any restrictions? Max two dogs for stays in select rooms
I’ve spent many happy hours wandering the South West Coast Path along Dorset’s magical Jurassic Coast with my two border collies. Moonfleet Manor sits directly on its route – step out the front door and you’re away. Rolling hills and ancient fossils, hidden coves and secret swimming spots.
Treats earned, return to Moonfleet for a dedicated Waggy-Tails afternoon tea complete with a platter of treats and a puppacino for £15.

9. Hotel du Vin, Brighton

- Price to bring a dog: £25 a night or £40 for two dogs (free for service dogs)
- What’s included in a dog-friendly stay: Food and water bowls, bed, protective mat, treats and poo bags
- Are dogs allowed in common areas? Yes, apart from the dining rooms
- Any restrictions? Max two “small to medium sized” dogs
The Hotel du Vin was my go-to Brighton stay even before they welcomed man’s best friend. Chic and sophisticated yet quirky and eccentric, as befitting its Lanes location, it mixes French bistro flair with the best of Brighton’s bohemia. Happily, dogs are offered the same level of service as humans.
To its rear, the Lanes run away in a tangle of cobbles and offbeat shops. In front, miles of seafront promenade and dog-friendly Hove Beach.

10. Sandman Signature, Glasgow
Price to bring a dog: £15 a night (free for service dogs)
- What’s included in a dog-friendly stay: Dog bowl, bed, treats, leaving gift and scenic walking suggestions
- Are dogs allowed in common areas? Yes in some common areas
- Any restrictions? Max two dogs in first floor rooms only
Just two years old, and the Sandman Signature has been highly commended for its pet-friendly approach. Named Scotland’s Best City Hotel at the Prestige Scottish Hotel Awards, it’s a great spot for both humans and dogs alike.
Comfy rooms, nice (human and canine) touches and a central location put it close to Glasgow’s most vibrant neighbourhoods. Outside, your dog may prefer the riverside – lovely for morning strolls as the city wakes up.

FAQs
No, Premier Inn has a nationwide no dogs (or any other pets) policy across all its hotels. This is with the exception of trained guidance dogs.
Some hotels allow dogs to be left alone, others don’t, so always check in advance.
Lots of major hotel chains in the UK allow pets. Travelodge allows up to two dogs in rooms of its 600-plus hotels, and Best Western actively promotes its 100-plus hotels as pet-friendly. Two of my favourite pet-friendly chains are The Hoxton Hotels and Moxy Hotels, both of which are brilliant for humans, too.
