1. Australia’s coast in the southeast: sunny beaches instead of snow

When it’s still cold outside, the beach season in the southeast of Australia is on. Between Melbourne and Brisbane you can expect beautiful beaches, eucalyptus forests with cute koalas hanging in the trees, and cities like Sydney or Brisbane. The roadtrip starts with an epic highlight: The Great Ocean Road winds along the coast of Melbourne and presents magnificent views to you.

When you look at the Twelve Apostles with your hair tousled by the wind, it’s a very special moment.

Through the mountains, we head back east towards Sydney and from there to the most beautiful bays of the country. Along Port Stephens, Byron Bay and the Gold Coast you will find lots of natural campsites. Do you want to wake up in the morning and see kangaroos along the beach? That’s possible in beautiful Australia during the winter season!

2. Across Florida: Everglades, beaches, rockets, and The Keys

The Sunshine State, Florida lives up to its name: The sun shines all year round. However, while tropical temperatures are too extreme for many travellers during the high season, the cooler temperatures during the winter months are much nicer. Average temperatures between 20 and 25 degrees are perfect to go on a motorhome tour!

Before you pick up your campervan in Miami, be sure to check out the city. Soak up Cuban flair in Little Havana and recover from the flight to Miami Beach. And then you can pick up your camper and explore Florida: Fort Lauderdale with its little canals is reminiscent of Venice, while the Cape Canaveral rocket launch site will catapult you (mentally) into space. The Everglades National Park is a beautiful place to camp.

When the last guests leave the park in the evening hours, it’s just you and the orange sun setting behind the reeds. Also a total highlight: the drive along the Keys Scenic Highway. The panoramic road is completely surrounded by the sea and takes you from island to island.

3. Roadtrip through South Africa: Cape Town, Garden Route, and the Big 5

Do you long for summer temperatures while camping, but don’t fancy getting jet lag? Then South Africa could be the perfect winter camping destination for you. Around Cape Town, summery temperatures between 27 and 28 degrees are typical between December and February. In addition, South Africa is only one or two hours ahead of many European countries, so you have hardly any time difference when arriving there.

You should start your roadtrip in Cape Town, probably one of the most exciting cities in the world. Our highlight: Climb Table Mountain and be rewarded with a magnificent panoramic view all the way to the Cape of Good Hope. Then you can travel to the east, where one highlight follows another. Enjoy the view of the vineyards in Stellenbosch – with a glass of wine at the campsite, of course.

Watch whales on the coast of Hermanus, hike over sand dunes in De Hoop Nature Reserve, and camp behind bays along the Garden Route. Before heading back to Cape Town, swap your motorhome for a Land Cruiser. The Addo Elephant National Park is home to the Big 5 – elephants, buffalos, rhinos, leopards, and lions will await you during a safari.

4. Portugal roadtrip on the Algarve: along the beautiful coast

Many camping fans turn their backs on the cold temperatures and spend their winters on the Algarve in Portugal. With summery temperatures from 10 to 15 degrees, it’s a good plan to stay here in South Europe during the winter months.

The roadtrip starts in the beautiful city of Faro, which is located in the heart of the region and is especially known for its large old town with its small alleys. From here you can drive along the coast and pass colourful fishing villages, bizarre rock formations at Ponta de Piedade, and beaches in the southwest, where big waves make surfers’ hearts beat faster. Begin your morning by gazing at the sea, because some campsites are located directly on the most beautiful beaches of the country.

But a trip to the mountains at the end of your roadtrip is also interesting: There you can follow the footsteps of the Moors in the mediaeval town of Silves and camp between eucalyptus trees in the evening.

5. Southeast Andalusia: the southernmost tip of Europe

In the very east of Spain, where the province of Almería borders Murcia, the average annual temperature is several degrees higher than in other coastal areas of the Mediterranean Sea. For this reason many camping fans spend their winters in the southeast of Andalusia. But there are also many other good reasons for a roadtrip through Andalusia – for example the beautiful sunrises over the Cabo de Gata Nature Park, or the desert of Tabernas, which give you wild west vibes.

You can also visit the many beaches and viewpoints on the coast between Málaga and Almería. No matter where you go: You’ll definitely find a beautiful spot for your camper.

Be careful: Although it feels like spring or summer on the coast and in the Tabernas Desert, there can be snow in the mountain areas (for example in Granada) during winter. So think carefully about whether you want to visit the mountains or stay on the sunny coast – by choosing the second option, you can leave your winter jackets at home.
