One of our favourite seasons on the island, spring is one of the best times to visit Sardinia. With great temperatures, loads of activities and lower prices, spring offers just as much as the summer months.

Spring is one of the best times to visit Sardinia, as the weather allows for a range of activities. Temperatures tend to be between 20-25°C, which means you’ll neither be too hot nor too cold like in other months. This means it’s the perfect time to take in some cultural festivities, such as The Festival of Sant’Efisio. Usually taking place in Cagliari between the 1st and 4th of May each year, the festival celebrates Saint Efisio, who saved the city’s population during a plague in 1652.

Sardinian Thanksgiving also takes place on the 1st of May, which is an ancient tradition for giving thanks for the annual harvest. During these celebrations, you can enjoy epic parades, fantastic feasts and traditional music. Another great activity during spring in Sardinia is to take a hike on one of its many mountain trails. With ideal weather, you can take a family-level hike to Mount Arcuentu, which is located on Costa Verde.

Another thing that makes spring one of the best times to visit Sardinia is that you can enjoy warm weather with less-crowded beaches. With peak season yet to kick in, spring is the ideal time to top up your tan, go for a swim or enjoy a walk along the coastline. One of our favourite beaches is Cala Goloritze, which is located close to Baunei. With crystal-clear water, golden sands and an impressive, mountainous backdrop, it won’t be long before you’re referring to this little gem as paradise.

When you’re visiting Sardinia during spring, you’ll want to ensure you’ve packed a pair of comfortable shoes, as there are so many cities, parks and hikes that you’ll want to explore. Due to the weather still being cooler than the summer months, you’ll also want to bring a few breathable layers that are easy to put on and take off. Don’t be fooled by the lower temperatures compared to summer either. You’ll still need sunscreen, with the rays being very strong. A little umbrella also can come in handy, with unexpected showers popping up here and there.

Another great time to visit Sardinia is during summer, with the beaches in full swing. Whether you want to dance at music festivals, explore the island or relax on the beach, there’s something for everyone.

Summer is also one of the best times to visit Sardinia, especially if you want to have a holiday where you’ll be guaranteed sun, sun, and more sun. With average temperatures often reaching about 28-29°C, you’ll be able to make the most of all the outdoor activities. One of the most iconic events the island hosts, Time in Jazz, takes place during August, which gives you another reason to visit during the summer. Happening over 10 days, the event primarily takes place in Berchidda and amasses visitors from all over the world.

The hot weather makes the beach a top destination for visitors during the summer months. With warm sea temperatures but still a lot cooler than the air temperature, you’ll be able to cool off after sunbathing or a beach walk. Take a trip to Principe Beach, which is close to Arzachena on Costa Smeralda. Here you can enjoy fine golden sand and turquoise waters, which are perfect for swimmers of all capabilities.

When you’re visiting Sardinia in the summer, you’ll need to pack accordingly. You’ll want to have a pair of comfortable trainers or sandals for exploring cities and evening walks. Add to that a pair of flip-flops for swimming pool and beach visits. When it comes to clothing, you should focus on taking light and breathable clothes, with linen being a great option for the weather.

Sunscreen is also a must and should be worn and reapplied throughout the day to protect you from harmful rays. Another item we recommend packing is a snorkel or a pair of goggles. With such clear waters at every beach, it’s a great chance to explore some of the native marine life.

If you’re looking for the best time to visit Sardinia, then autumn is a great time to go. With temperatures reaching about 23°C, you’ll still get to enjoy the warm climate and many of the summer activities but with fewer tourists around. Autumn also gives you the perfect chance to enjoy the festivities in Barbagia, one of the central regions of Sardinia. With the annual celebration of the region’s traditions, arts, crafts and food taking place for the whole season, it’s a great event to add to your itinerary.

Autumn in Sardinia also gives you the perfect opportunity to explore some of the island’s archaeological sites away from the scorching heat. The Roman Amphitheatre of Cagliari, which was built in the 2nd century, is a great place to start, with it being carved directly into a rock face. Alternatively, take a trip to the Nuragic village of Tiscali, in the region of Nuoro. This village is inside a gigantic cave in Monte Tiscali, which makes it a sure-fire winner with kids.

When you’re packing for autumn in Sardinia, you’ll want to make sure you have comfortable shoes for exploring. You will need a combination of light and breathable clothing for the daytime, with temperatures still getting hot; bring a light rain jacket and jumper. For the evening, a warmer layer or two are always recommended, as temperatures are slightly less predictable this time of year. Don’t forget your swimming gear and sunscreen, too, as the weather is still warm enough for you to enjoy the beautiful beaches.

Whilst winter may not offer the sun and heat that the rest of the year does, there’s still plenty to do in Sardinia. Enjoy the contrast of beach strolls or ski slopes and make this a holiday to remember.

As winter draws in, temperatures drop; however, it’s still one of the best times to visit Sardinia. Temperatures tend to reach about 15°C, which is quite a change from the other seasons. That being said, there are still many reasons for you to enjoy this great island during the off-season. Valledoria and Sassari are superb places to visit in the build-up to the festive season, with there being an array of decorations and street lights.

The New Year’s Eve concerts are also a sight to behold, with music from both national and regional performers. Another great thing about winter is the fact you can go to the beaches for incredible views without crowds of beachgoers getting into your picture. One of our recommended beaches in winter is La Pelosa, which is located in Stintino and boasts an incredible landscape that includes an unmistakable Saracen Tower. Another activity that you should add to your winter to-do list is skiing, with four resorts on the island that offer ocean-view slopes.

When it comes to packing your bags for winter, it’s a little different to the other seasons. As always, a pair of comfy and waterproof shoes are a must. You’ll also want to take plenty of warm clothing for the evenings, as well as a coat in case of rain or snow. As with many places in Europe during winter, a warm hat and scarf are also a great idea to help beat the cold.
