A great place to start in Hamburg is at its impressive town hall. Built in 1897 out of sandstone in a Neo-Renaissance architectural style, the building includes a tower that rises to 112m. Head to the Kunsthalle art gallery to see some world class creations in its important collection of painting from the 19th century. Highlights include works by the French Impressionists.
Take a walk down to the Reeperbahn area, containing clubs that The Beatles played many times in the early 1960s. At the corner of Reeperbahn and Grosse Freiheit there is even a sculpture honouring them. Explore Hamburg's extensive waterways on a boat tour. Leaving regularly from the harbour, the tours can last up to 3 hours and show visitors some of Hamburg's most important sights. In the harbour area, climb the tower of the St. Michaelis church, one of Hamburg's landmarks, which has an impressive view over the city. In the evening, relax at one of Hamburg's esteemed restaurants, serving local delicacies and freshly caught seafood.
