Located in north of Germany, Hamburg is the country's second biggest city, and home to one of the most important harbours in Europe. If the weather is very warm, visitors can even relax on one of the small beaches on the north side of the Elbe River. With cultural hotspots, stunning architecture, and tours along the waterways, Hamburg holidays promise an unforgettable German getaway.
Hamburg is serviced by Hamburg-Fuhlsbüttel Airport. It is easy to get to the centre of Hamburg via train, local bus service or taxi. Alternatively, vistors may wish to hire a car whilst in Germany. The city of Hamburg is very well connected, with regular bus, U-bahn and S-bahn services covering the entire central area. The best time to visit Hamburg is in its warm summer months. The time zone is GMT+1.
A great place to start in Hamburg is at its impressive town hall. Built in 1897 out of sandstone in a Neo-Renaissance architectural style, the building includes a tower that rises to 112m. Head to the Kunsthalle art gallery to see some world class creations in its important collection of painting from the 19th century. Highlights include works by the French Impressionists.
Take a walk down to the Reeperbahn area, containing clubs that The Beatles played many times in the early 1960s. At the corner of Reeperbahn and Grosse Freiheit there is even a sculpture honouring them. Explore Hamburg's extensive waterways on a boat tour. Leaving regularly from the harbour, the tours can last up to 3 hours and show visitors some of Hamburg's most important sights. In the harbour area, climb the tower of the St. Michaelis church, one of Hamburg's landmarks, which has an impressive view over the city. In the evening, relax at one of Hamburg's esteemed restaurants, serving local delicacies and freshly caught seafood.
