Porto Colom is a picturesque fishing village and charming beach resort on the island of Mallorca. Famous for being the supposed birthplace of Christopher Colombus, the village is located in a natural, unspoiled area of the island and has plenty to offer it's many visitors.
Due to it's mild Mediterranean climate, Porto Colom has around 300 days of sunshine each year. Begin your journey by flying in to Palma International Airport which is around 65 km from the resort. From there you can take a taxi or consider renting a car to easily get around to some of the other wonderful sites on the island. The time zone is GMT+1.
There are a number of beautiful beaches to enjoy whilst on your Porto Colom holidays. Head to the fine sands of Cala Marcal beach for calm, shallow waters, ideal for families with small children. The twin beaches of s'Arenal 'Gran' and s'Arenal 'Petit' are popular with the locals and are located at the entry to the harbour. The atmospheric natural harbour is truly characteristic of the town, with brightly painted boathouses and sailing boats for hire.
The nightlife in Porto Colom is generally of a subdued and laid back nature, however you can find many late night bars open for a cocktail or two on the terrace. There is a great selection of fine restaurants to choose from serving fresh seafood, tapas and traditional Mallorcan dishes. In the centre of town a weekly market is held selling find fresh fruit, vegetables, meats and also souvenirs and handicrafts. For wine lovers there are several lovely vineyards close by in the region of Pla y Llevant.
