Porto Cristo is a town on the eastern coast of Mallorca, just a few miles south of the Cala Millor resort. The town has its own beach, as well as a few other notable destinations for visitors to enjoy during their Porto Cristo holidays.
Palma de Mallorca Airport, located near Palma, is about 65 kilometres (40.6 miles) to the west of Porto Cristo. Visitors can also arrive via ferry from Barcelona to Palma harbour in Mallorca for their Porto Cristo holidays. From there, there is a railway line that connects Palma with Manacor in the east. Porto Cristo has a Mediterranean climate with dry summers. Perhaps the best time to visit is in the springtime when the flowers blossom and Mallorca's fiesta season begins.
Visitors flock to the 350 metre long Porto Cristo beach during their holidays. The beach boasts crystal clear waters and fine golden sand, and visitors can rent sun loungers for extra comfort. Pedal boats can also be hired, and there is a good selection of beach restaurants. Also in Porto Cristo is the Jumaica Tropical Park. The park mixes 25,000 square metres of tropical gardens with the Mallorcan landscape. There, visitors can discover wild animals and tropical vegetation.
Porto Cristo is home to renowned caves. The Coves del Drach (Dragon Caves) are four great caves, amid which is the Lake Martel. Visitors can take boat trips along the cave lake. Classical music concerts sometimes take place within the caves. Visitors should also check out the Acuario de Mallorca next to the Cuevas del Drach, a small aquarium that includes exotic fish from around the world. The Cuevas del Hams are alternative nearby caves around Porto Cristo which have plenty of stalactites and stalagmites.
