Ohio is a Midwest U.S. state which is south of Lake Erie. It shares Lake Erie as a border with Ontario in Canada. As it is not a coastal state there aren't many beaches or coastal landscapes in Ohio, except those along Lake Erie, but visitors will still discover plenty of great destinations.
Visitors can land at a few airports for their Ohio holidays, Port Columbus International Airport, Akron-Canton Regional Airport and Cleveland Hopkins International Airport are all nearby and are served by most of the major airlines. Visitors should note that Ohio is about five hours behind GMT. The summers in Ohio are sunny with temperatures reaching 32 C, and the winters are frosty with plenty of snow.
There are a few notable national parks to visit on Ohio holidays such as the Hocking Hills State Park which has a variety of cliffs, rocks, caves and waterfalls. The 20,339 acre Cuyahoga Valley National Park preserves the rural landscapes along the Cuyahoga River. Visit the Cleveland Botanical Garden which includes eleven extensive gardens filled with a multitude of colourful plants. Along the waterfront of Lake Erie there are also some sandy beaches such as at the Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park, Edgewater Park and Geneva State Park.
There are also numerous museums and galleries in Ohio's cities. The Cleveland Museum of Art has a remarkable collection of European and U.S. paintings. At Columbus there is the Columbus Museum of Art and the Ohio Railway Museum which has a collection of historic railway artefacts. In Dayton visitors can visit the National Museum of the U. S.
