FAQs - booking Asia flights

  • What are some popular airports to fly in and out of Asia?

Popular airports in Asia include Doha’s Hamad International Airport, Singapore Changi Airport and Tokyo Haneda International Airport (HND), which are some of the largest hubs on the continent. UK flyers tend to enjoy flying to Dubai International Airport or Hong Kong International Airport, both as a destination and a layover airport for destinations further afield, such as Japan and Australia.

  • What’s a good way to find cheap flights to Asia?

If you want to find cheaper flights to Asia from the UK, you’ll generally find much cheaper tickets if you select a flight with at least one layover. For example, from London Heathrow Airport or Manchester Airport, you can grab flights to Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Airport (BOM) with Swiss Air or Lufthansa, while flights from Heathrow to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport with Malaysia Airlines stop in Kuala Lumpur; both are generally cheaper than the direct option. Furthermore, make sure you book it well in advance to possibly get a cheaper price.

  • What visa do I need to fly to Asia?

Asia is a huge continent with many different countries with different immigration policies when it comes to UK citizens. Depending on the country you are visiting, it is likely you will need some sort of visa, with places such as China, Mongolia and Iran to name a few all requiring UK citizens to have an approved visa in their passport prior to arrival.

  • What options are there for direct flights to Asia?

You can fly directly to most major cities in Asia, especially when flying with a national airline such as Thai Airways to Bangkok or Japan Airlines to Tokyo. You can also fly to Middle Eastern countries such as Jordan, United Arab Emirates and Qatar. However, these flights can prove to be expensive. A wise option is to find flights with a short layover, and this will reduce the price by a distance in some cases.

  • How long is the flight to Asia?

An average direct flight from the United Kingdom to Asia takes 13h 47m, covering a distance of 5823 miles. The most popular route is London - Bangkok with an average flight time of 11h 25m.

  • What is the cheapest flight to Asia?

The cheapest ticket to Asia from the United Kingdom found in the last 72 hours was £206 one-way, and £365 round-trip. The most popular route is London Heathrow to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi and the cheapest round-trip airline ticket found on this route in the last 72 hours was £451.

  • Which airlines fly to Asia?

British Airways, American Airlines & Virgin Atlantic fly the most frequently from the United Kingdom to Asia. The most popular route is from London to Bangkok, and Thai Airways, Air Canada and EVA Air fly this route the most.

  • What are the most popular destinations in Asia?

Based on KAYAK flight searches, the most popular destination is Bangkok (40% of total searches to Asia). The next most popular destinations are Tokyo (15%) and Kuala Lumpur (6%). Searches for flights to New Delhi (6%), to Mumbai (4%) and to Hong Kong (4%) are also popular.

  • How does KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy?

KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool uses historical data to determine whether the price for a given destination and date is likely to change within 7 days, so travellers know whether to wait or book now.

Top tips for finding cheap flights to Asia

  • Enter your preferred departure airport and travel dates into the search form above to unlock the latest Asia flight deals.
  • If you’re looking to visit various countries in Southeast Asia, convenient airport hubs to fly into include Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) and Hong Kong International Airport (HKG). Here you can find connections to other major cities in the region, such as Jakarta, Manila and Hanoi in Vietnam.
  • Be mindful about flying to countries in the Middle East during Ramadan, as you’re likely to come across much more expensive flights during this time. If you can be flexible on your travel dates and fly either side of the Ramadan period, you’ll save yourself some money.
  • If you want to travel around the Middle East, it’s wise to fly to a major hub like Doha Hamad International Airport (DOH) or Dubai International Airport (DXB), as these airports have great connections to other cities in the region.
  • Should you be planning on a backpacking trip around China, a great option to save some money would be flying to Hong Kong International Airport and starting your adventure there. This is the cheapest hub to fly to in the region.
  • If you’re looking to fly to the United Arab Emirates from London Heathrow Airport (LHR), it may prove cheaper to fly from alternative airports such as London Gatwick Airport (LGW). Flight good but it was 30min late taking off. Also don’t like landing then being loaded on bus and driven around the airport like it’s a sightseeing tour.

I liked everything accept the delay try to improve in that area

Flights were both delayed. No luggage on arrival for the whole plane and no contact since submitting a PIR.

I am going to be just factual, not bad mouthing nor complaining, but this was my experience. With 3 pieces of luggage, I was told the flight from Mumbai to Dubai was cancelled due to flood. This was told not by the airport board which still showed the regular time of departure, but general stuff at the airport. No Emirates stuff around to direct the transfer passengers of the cancelled flights. By the departure counters with crowds of people, one by one, angry, frustrated, urgent conversations were going on. No announcement were made, no postings being seen, just private conversations. I still have 5+ hours of layover, so I let more urgent people settled first. However, the fact that no communication of when, what and where I should go was very unsettling. Basically no time limit waiting means, no meal, no sleep, no step away, no planning, no change plan, no telling of the family what to do. Nobody was able to tell you anything but asked you to wait, no chair, no space, no facility to freshen up. That went on for 10+ (from 5) hour without warnings and accurate communications. Email received from Emirates asked me not to go to Dubai at all, or boarding at the time that was passed. In other words, communication were very untimely, after the fact. That created more confusion instead. After changing several of boarding time, we were given the gate # and a boarding pass. However, the boarding pass still have the original time of boarding, so again, not knowing walking 30 min in the airport to the gate would make you late or not, therefore, still dare not to eat a meal. The flight arriving to Dubai was uneventful and I gave a 4/5 rating. I just thought the layover at Dubai would just cut short from 8+ hours to 2+ hours. At Dubai airport, I saw people sleeping on cardboard, knowing, these people got stranded but they dared to sleep because they know when to board and I didn't. Or these kind of delay are just so normal that people know what to do to pass time. Then the worst service and crazy thing happened. The boarding time on board for LA and at gate A9 was clearly 8:50AM. At 8:40, surprised by not having any boarding activities, then one single staff showed up and said to a few passengers that the boarding would be delayed without a time frame. Since only a few people know, I asked another Emirates staff at another counter, who simply said basically non of his business. I was shocked with that indifferent attitude. Yet every boards I saw show the same boarding time. What kind of system failure was that to prepare delay situation! How confusing and unnecessary chaos and anger that provoke. That poor staff had to repeat himself so many times, answered questions that he had no power nor information to provide nor solved. One an only one stuff to show up for 10 min, leaving the counter non-staff with board showing 8:50AM boarding. This was purely irresponsible from top to bottom of the entire airline operation staff. What kind of leader in a service industry would allow this to happen to their customers. Without explanation, after changing 3 times the boarding times, again, means you should not go to eat a full meal, because, when you found a mob at the gate. People who were stranded for 2 days were afraid of not getting a seat with a full plane. That would not be happening if the airline provide adequate guidance to each person, instead of just having 4 staff yelling at the gate at the same time to "control" the crowd, threatening no boarding and delay boarding. Finally, I was on board, hungry and tired, not sleep for 36 hours. I was denied with a snack of fruit. By the time meal was served, it was an hour later. Half way of the trip, I felt sleep in fetus position and did not want to move, happy I finally could have some shut eyes time. However, when I got up to the bathroom, I felt very light headed. Having sleep deprived, constipated for 3 days, dehydrated, I knew it could happen since my blood pressure usually was low closed to 90/60. Any lower then that, I could have syncope. Sure enough, I was on the floor just 10 feet from my seat and 5 feet to the bathroom. However, nobody called for help. I asked for warm water and juice to hydrate, came only with cold and icy drinks which I wouldn't take. I asked for blankets, one was given. Yet my shivering, needs to cover my head and multiple requests did not hasten to take the two blankets that are at my seat 10 feet away. I waited 10 min for that. While 2-3 staff surrounded me, nobody did the vitals until after 15 min, just the spirometer only of which did not work due to my cold fingers. The first reading was 86 and oxygen was suggested. But another supervising personnel came, fussed over another reading, ignoring my comfort and needs. Seemingly the reading of spirometer was the priority. By then, no oxygen needed. I had this fainting experience before, and I knew how to help myself. However, I was not being listened to but to be told this and that. Finally, I got better and returned to seat. One kind flight attendant said she would check back with me in 15 min. She did not come back. I felt asleep in that fetus position again and this time I woke up with a bad cramp at my left leg. Yet I needed to go to bathroom, the cramp was too bad to walk. So I stepped back to seat. When I tried again the second time, the other front leg got cramp. This time I dare not move but massaged myself. For all these 5-10 min, I called for attention. Attendants passed me by because they were carried with heavy load of blankets and stuff. Nobody answered the light. Then came landing and off board. I was asked by two attendants how I felt. I smiled and said "fine".

Flight got canceled without any prior information and it caused lot of trouble

Nice selection of movies and TV shows. Plane was generally nice, not the newest but nice nonetheless. However, Emirates should have cancelled the flight, as hardly any flights flew out of Dubai at the time. Flight delays and cancellation was poorly communicated and passengers were left guessing and to their own devices on what to do. Connection desks were staffed too thinly, there was one desk with more than a hundred clients and just one poor lady. When I had my flights rebooked, I was told meal vouchers can be scanned using my boarding pass, nope. Was told to comeback for my hotel voucher, none. Had to book my hotel voucher the usual way through Dubai Connect despite having been told twice to comeback to the counters twice.

On the Dubai-Gatwick flight the only meal options were Beef or Chicken. No vegetarian option. This was a surprise. I would usually order in advance but did not this time. Would have been good to know that a vegetarian meal is not available as a standard meal. Thankfully it was just me travelling, but if I’d had my kids with me that would have been a big problem for us.

Didn’t like it at all. Cabin crew unfriendly. Very bad experience.

Food is really bad, not to the Emirates standards. Coming out of Houston airport is very confusing,

Absolutely terrible delays for 3 hours changed seats after we paid an upgrade on both legs. It appears it’s up to us to request a refund after they down graded our seat. Never again !!

Food was good, attendants were friendly. Seats were not comfortable. Did not receive any amenities such as eyemask or earplugs that would have helped sleep. Additionally a large group of passengers boarded very late into boarding and were a disruption for almost the whole flight. Flight attendants did their best but the kids were making so much noise, kicking seats, and half the time no adult was sat with them so they weren’t being managed.

More facilities to transport to the gates......felt too much walking distance

I staff or crew they were very friendly and humbly, they done theirs service very well, I appreciate them and thank you to the company or Qatar 🇶🇦 Government for providing as good service in their flight ,once again, thank you 😊 🙏 😀 😉 👍

Online check-in doesn't work. That's why I couldn't give it full Star.

Overall it was a very good experience. Boarding was efficient and well organized. The cabin crew were excellent. The meals were tasty and quite filling. The warm bread rolls were a nice touch. Seats were comfortable even if they were a little narrow. Entertainment selection was excellent.

The crew was courteous and efficient. There was no entertainment or liquor service on this short international flight.

Wore experience due to delay and took me 3 days to reach my destination.

No separate queue for business class/platinum passengers. I had to stay in the long queue to board. I requested breakfast before landing, but the crew didn't offer, except a coffee with milk. No tea with milk was available. Had asked for cookies, but didn't receive them. The crew in the business class was not good in terms of service..

Crews are very rude and unhelpful. Cramped seats in economy. Foods are useless

The business class experience was awesome - I will be using QATAR airways again and it'll be business class again - appreciate the privileges afforded to the business class clients - thank you.

The business class experience is fantastic. The crew were polite but often unavailable even when I tried to call them! I even found myself bringing my used dishes and cutlery up to the crew because no one had come to collect it after over an hour.

Online was good boarding also but a child was crying all the way with no intervention from crew member.

Overall mediocre experience. Check in was good. They're were discriminatory. They were not attentive, food choices were not vegetarian friendly. The food served was frozen.

Good range of movies but lacking decent tv shows. Wifi was really expensive on this flight, considering flights under 7 hours have a $9.99 USD charge for streaming, to jump up to $24.99 for a 7 hour 40 flight seemed a little bit of a rip off. Staff are inattentive, and really need to improve on the customer experience.

Crew were very polite and quicker in service. Excellent cooling, comfortable seats and tasty food served

Eine Toilette der Business Class war gesperrt und somit nicht benutzbar.

Very unfriendly team. It was very difficult to get a cup of coffee. Legroom was extremely small. Old, dilapidated plane.

Ripped off and broken seats in Business class. Seats stink and need to request the staff for additional bedsheets. Crew if very friendly though

Food was very good. Again tray could use a non-skid mat. I had a regular seat - comfortable - able to sleep undisturbed. Boarding was uneventful.

Crew was good, boarding mediocre, food choices were limited, seating was not comfortable

It was fine, seats were entirely too small. I’m not a huge man, and my hips barely fit in the seat.

In London, everyone was very helpful to make sure all passengers find the next aircraft, as everybody missed their connection due to the late departure in Miami. My mom‘s airplane left two hours after her arrival to London however, for my nephew they only had room on the next flight seven hours later. In the last minute they contacted him and was able to put him on the same flight as my mom./ which we were very thankful for Therefore, all his luggage was on the other aircraft and have not reached Budapest yet.

The design of business class is absolutely horrible. The flight attendants have to cross in front of passengers to pass the food. Passengers have to crawl over other passengers to get to the bathroom or to get to their bag. It’s shocking!! The flight attendants however were superb!

Quick boarding process, slight delays on the tarmac prior to takeoff and a late arrival due to an emergency on the landing runway. Not the fault of the airline at all! Cabin crew was very friendly and the Captain kept the passengers well informed about what was going on

Seats did not recline. That is none of the seats on the plane are designed to recline. If you want food you need to purchase it. We flew round trip Warsaw to London- both flights were late.

The port to insert the headphones was loose and had to hold it the entire time

Every host and pilot were very professional. My next flight would be upgraded from economy to the next group.

During breakfast the fligh attendants missed one side of the plane for tea/coffee. I was on the other side and received tea. Unfortunately my husband and friends did not.

I asked for a window seat and when I got on the plane 24A did not have a window so was very not happy, but good and entertainment was good and the staff was very good, so the only complaint was the seating.

Flight canceled two hours beforehand, BA reticketed us so that we would have had to leave from Edinburgh instead of Glasgow, where we were already at the airport. We would have arrived in Boston too late to get home to Vermont. Instead with some pressure we were reticketed from Glasgow on Lufthansa, which avoided Heathrow, a great benefit after our horrible experience at Heathrow when we arrived in Britain three weeks earlier. (Kayak assebled an itierary that did not leave adeqate time for the connection at Heathrow, where thousands of people were trying tio get through inadequate and badly staffed security and staff did not know the slightest details about where and which lines we should get in.) The British Airways travel experience is not to be recommended these days.

Communication was terrible. Flight was delayed for 4-5 hours in DC (on the front end, and also after we boarded, we had to get off - some issue with fueling the old plane correctly). There was little to no information on timing or what was happening. Once we reach Delhi airspace, apparently there was weather that caused us not to land - we were actually near the ground, saw the run way, and lifted back up to the sky after being sooo close. Then we circled for about 30 minutes, and they decided to go to Jaipur to land until the weather cleared and to refuel. Again, once we landed in Jaipur (wrong city), there was little to no information on timing or what was happening. Then we heard that the crew was reaching their 24 hours. We sat on the place, on the tarmac for another 3 HOURS, with no food and not enough water for everyone on the flight. Then, they kicked us off the plane with no plan, in the wrong city. We went thru customs, got our bags (thank goodness), and had to ask a bunch of staff what was happening and what to do. Eventually, their soltuion was to bus people back to Delhi (like 6 hours we were told) but not everyone would fit on the bus, and unknown timing on when it would leave. At this point it was 9PM (we were scheduled to arrive in Delhi at 11AM...). My husband and I decided to risk it and take a cab that we had to pay ourselves (about $200 US dollars) to get to Delhi (about 5 hour drive). We both had terrible trips back to the US as well - almost missed connecting flight, forced to pay for carry-on luggage (a small back pack!) and duty-free goods by the Air India staff last minute. Just terrible experience all around. Never again with AI! The ONLY good thing was the air hostesses were kind and patient - example: they made sure people with food allergies got their correct. However, the TV's in our entire row did not work so I'm glad we brought our own entertainment......

Need to update the staff of the airport. They tell luggage weight according to they want.

If you are traveling to mumbai -- must try SFO - MUM direct flight. It's a game changer when you are traveling to India. Timings are well designed, optimal and makes the travel enjoyable.

Air India business class flight seat is too low and very congested I am 72 years old . I had knee surgery.Bcz seat was very low and there is nothing to hold near the seat when we sr citizens are going for washroom. For sr citizens one small handle should be there so that we can hold and getup.I reached on 29 th of Jan in US but still I have pain and swelling in my knee and severe back pain .Please do the needful Thank you 🙏

The crew on the flight was great and the food was good. The flight was on time and in fact arrived earlier than scheduled. The boarding process however was not great. I had a business class ticket but I had to stand in line for about 20 minutes at the gate before I could board. The bottleneck is that at the gate they check the boarding pass and passport all over again and there is no separate lane for business class and there were only 1 agent. The aircraft is very old . The entertainment system is antiquated and the programming is sub par.

I liked the timing but rest all were bad like below: 1. No restroom and food in waiting area at gate before boarding the flight. There was 2nd security scan at gate C2 and if someone goes to restroom which was outside that gate have to again go through security. So not having restroom, water in waiting area I felt is a blunder. 2. Entertainment system was not working for many passengers including mine. Crew members told about issue not fixed on time hence 16+ hours was tough to spend. 3. Food in domestic Air India flight was better but in international flight it’s not good.

Flight is 14 hrs DELAYED. TOOK US TO A HOTEL and kept there for 3 hrs and brought us back and again we have to stay for another 6 hrs waiting for flight. Harrowing experience.

I did not expect from Tata group like this worst experience food is too worst

Everything was bad o entertainment no nice food crew were pathetic as not helping us at any time

Gourmet Food served excellent. Toilet I'll maintained. Not value for money in Business class. Magazines may be supplied for time pass. Entertainment required.
