Have you already recorded a Love Letter and posted it for the world to see? Or are you still feeling shy and need a little inspiration? Europe is, simply put, diversity, life and inspiration on a scale so much bigger than the political and restrictive belt some people see it as.

We liked Jeremie’s “Dear Germany” video so much that we wanted to know more about him and the experiences and relationship he has with Germany that drove him to share such an honest and refreshing Love Letter.

Jeremie Crystal: I first discovered my 1860 top in a thrift store in Manchester. After a bit of research about the club, I found their story quite interesting, especially how they share a stadium with FC Bayern. Luckily I was wearing the shirt when I went to a Munich beer hall in Berlin and received some free drinks from an 1860 fan who was working as a barman there. When I first visited Munich, I saw how 1860 and Bayern fans got along quite well (at least in my opinion anyway). This shocked me, coming from a country where rival football fans are prone to stab each other.

I wasn’t incredibly blessed romantically while in Germany, but I fell in love with the country itself. The hybrid of old and new buildings dotted around you create an off-kilter feel in Berlin, and the more classical feel of Munich is lovely and quaint.

Flights to Munich:

The architecture in Munich reminded me of something out of a fairytale and in Berlin more like a utopian sci-fi film. I preferred the architecture in Berlin because it is like no other on the planet. It’s clear there was bomb damage after the fall of Berlin, but it’s always interesting to see what they put in damaged areas. The various pieces of street art were fascinating as well.

Germans are incredibly friendly, kind and smart in general. I found the music scene in Berlin to be excellent; the techno was unreal. The clubbing scene is the best in the world in my opinion, and the museums and art galleries are excellent as well. As a Jew, I had eye-opening experiences in the Holocaust and Jewish museums (in Berlin) for sure. They are highly emotional venues but are a must to visit if you are in Berlin and want to learn more about its history.

The wall is an experience too. If you head to the east side gallery, you’ll get to see a section that’s still standing covered in infamous graffiti. The food is cool nearby, be sure to get a ‘Burgermeister’ just round the corner – the best burger in Berlin! There was a pretty cool rooftop bar on top of a car park as well; I’d recommend that for sure. I just can’t remember the name of it!

Berlin’s laid-back and edgy aesthetic is something that I definitely took to heart. It reminded me of all of the great sides of London rolled into one. It made me feel at home. It’s a place where I could see myself living one day if I’m lucky enough.

All in all, I love Germany, having been to Dusseldorf in 2006 for the world cup, Munich in 2012 with my school and Berlin in 2016 with friends. It is definitely a place I would recommend to all to travel to if they want to feel welcome, experience a fantastic culture, a rich history and have a great time as well.

I will be returning for sure, hopefully, sooner rather than later.
