I liked that I was able to stay for only one night on a busy weekend. Chicago marathon was being held directly across the street from hotel. The room was clean and we had a great view of the lakefront!
I ordered a wake-up call and it never came!!! Overslept and missed a meeting.

The air conditioning was blowing hot air rather than cool air. Very hard to sleep and noisy dice we had to open windows just I keep from suffocating in the heat. Room service was expensive and terrible.
Spacious suite, excellent staff, polished appearance, good wifi connectivity
Lack of a business center (not really a "business hotel")

They come right out and say they cannot compete with the big chains with new hotels, but they will beat the new facilities with great customer service. This is an old hotel that is renovated nicely with outstanding customer service. I say that again - outstanding customer service. They workout facility was great. It would be nice if they had a pool and hot tub.
This hotel should be rated at most three stars. The facility is way too old for comfortable.
Small room , tiny beds, expensive parking etc

great accomodations and service
The staff was extremely helpful with everything from directions to meal preferences. The quality of atmosphere was also very good. The decor and views from the hotel were better than anywhere I've ever stayed.
The pool area was not on par with the essence or ambiance of the rest of the hotel, with the lack of hot tub areas and the extreme plainness of the pool area compared to the rest of the hotel.

The amenities were great. I was given a larger room than expected with a nice (but not lake) view. The location was great and all staff were friendly and helpful. My room was quiet and the bed was very comfortable. My room was also very clean and the tv had a lot of channels. Also, the building and common areas are absolutely gorgeous.
I loved the gym facility and going for a swim after a stressful day. My only complaint is that there was a lot of loosely supervised young kids at the pool at 9pm. Would be nice if they had some hours for adults only.
Location is always great for whatever we are doing in downtown Chicago.
Our room was on a hallway just outside where employees entered the utility/laundry room, and they were very noisy early in the morning on weekend mornings when we could sleep.

Staff was very friendly and helpful
Carpet is pulling up in the hall, feels like you are walking down a low rent apartment building hallway and into and single room occupancy run down room. Television movies didn't work, no fridge, tiny bathroom, tiny window, small room. Cannot believe this cost $250/night. Should be labeled a motel and should be $60/night.
This is a great location, easy to get to everything. Best description for the rest is "adequate" - it serves its function of a place to stay that is clean, safe and reasonably priced - at least the price I got through Kayak which was about 100$ a night.
While the bellmen were great, as I checked in I watched the registration clerk treat the person in front of me like dirt. Not cool. Wireless is 15$ a day. And then it is slow. Should be free!

Best staff in Chicago.
Poorly maintained, staff seems not to care.
It's old, feels old and the staff simply does not care about whether guests come back or not. The grounds are lovely.

Nice building & lobby. 24 hour business center with free coffee. Large rooms. Close to McCormick (but not much of anything else.)
The restaurant is not managed by the hotel and it's pretty bad. Irregular hours, extremely uneven and sometimes really bad food, terrible training of staff. Maybe the worst hotel restaurant I've been to. Incompetently managed. The bar is much better, and you can get a very good hamburger there. There's a pizza joint within walking distance, otherwise you cab it for food.

Perfect location for our purpose for being there. Fast check in and lovely room! In the heart of the hubbub and will absolutely return.
Good location....close to Michigan Ave. The hotel charges $4.95 per day for hotel services at the end of your stay, supposedly for "free" wi-fi (which you can get outside the hotel too). This is not mentioned upfront nor is it mentioned by Kayak. The question is, would the hotel have charged me this extra if I had booked directly with them and not gone thru Kayak????

From the heights of its gleaming skyscrapers to the depths of its dive bars, Chicago covers the full gamut of attractions. Lying alongside sparkling Lake Michigan, steaming hot in summer and freezing cold in winter, Chicago has always forged ahead in arts, culture and industry. Give yourself plenty of time, then give in completely to all that this attractive city offers.
Bike along the waterfront and take in the city’s famous skyline. You can start at Navy Pier, (or avoid it completely), sure it’s a tourist magnet, but it has an undeniably lovely view out across the lake - particularly from the ferris wheel. Bike south through sprawling Grant Park, stopping off at Millenium Park on the way. Here there’s an outdoor ice skating rink in winter, while in summer, free concerts show on a huge stage. It’s also where you’ll see Cloud Gate (fondly called ‘the Bean’), renowned British artist Anish Kapoor’s first public outdoor work in the United States. Inspired by liquid mercury, the polished steel, kidney bean-shaped sculpture reflects the skyline and the curious gazes of its onlookers. Continue south and you’ll arrive at the Art Institute of Chicago which houses one of the finest art collections in the world; over 300,000 works encompassing art, design, architecture and photography, and ranging from Old Masters to American art.
The World in a city
While you’ll never run out of things to do downtown, take time to explore other districts too. Chicago has a huge Polish population, so if you’re craving pierogies head to the community’s epicentre in Portage Park. Funky Wicker Park, to the west of downtown, is packed with independent shops, quirky book and record stores and tasty cafes. Nearby Paseo Boricua is the vibrant, staunchly Puerto Rican district, its main street marked at each end by huge Puerto Rican steel flags. At night head to the Green Mill Cocktail Lounge, famously where Al Capone and his henchmen used to hang out in the 1920s, it’s now a top jazz and blues venue. Top off your night with a quintessential Chicago snack: deep-dish pizza.
Where to stay and getting around
To be in the centre of the city’s buzz, stay in Chicago’s Downtown and the Loop. For a contrast from the modern skyscrapers, head north over the Chicago River to the old part of town, with its leafy streets and 19th century villas. Lincoln Park draws the crowds for its attractions including Lincoln Park Zoo, North Avenue Beach, and Wrigley Park - home to the Chicago Cubs baseball team.
Chicago is laid out in an easy grid pattern and easy to navigate on foot. The eight ‘L Train’ lines connect visitors to most destinations. The blue line, linking the airport to downtown and the red line, running between the north and south of the city, are open 24 hours. Buses and taxis can be found throughout the city while affordable water taxis connect many of the main tourist spots.
