The staff is great, but the hotel is overrated and overpriced. You would think, given the high room fees, that they would put a chunk of that money back into keeping the rooms up to date. We had multiple issues with the rooms: The first room we were in was fairly small and had a broken bathroom door. There was a real lack of power outlets, which is a problem, especially when you're traveling for business and have a bunch of stuff to charge. Staff moved us to another room when the hotel strikers were protesting loudly outside at 7am (Sheraton: PAY YOUR WORKERS FAIRLY!). The second room had poor lighting. We could barely look through our suitcase at nighttime and had to aim the bedside reading lights at remote parts of the room so we could see. The wall-mounted TV was crooked. Unlike the first room, this bigger SUITE ($600+/night) had a non-digital thermostat that looked like it was from the 80s. The core of the problem is the new hotel ownership: Shenzhen New World Group. It's a corrupt company owned by a criminal fugitive (for real, look it up). So who really knows where all the hotel profits are going, but it certainly isn't going back into the hotel to keep it up-to-date! Avoid this hotel if you can. It's severely underwhelming.

10.0 Wonderful
Pros:Everything about the hotel was great. The entry is beautiful, the bar and restaurant area are great and everyone on the staff was very nice and attentive. A huge plus was the view form my room. I think you would get amazing views from any room there, though. The room was large and bed super comfortable. You get complimentary water and coffee/tea. Parking was a little pricey but good lot, safe, and not a far walk to hotel entrance. Location is excellent and freeway access for both 101 and 134 as well as Ventura Blvd. are super close.
Cons:I think the room could have been updated a little (like new carpet) and at the time the phones were not working so had to call from cell for front desk and room service. Not a big deal, though.

Cons:Breakfast buffet included coffees on the first 2 days, and then due to a change in policy we had to pay for it. That was annoying. Pool area could be better maintained and supervised.

Pros:The comfort of the beds was hands down a good thing and the location the universal studios makes this a great hotel to stay at. Check in was a breeze.
Cons:The pool deck is a major liability! It gets wet and it's slick as ice so beware. Wrong tile. There are stains on some of the hallway carpets. We found Trash and a pair of kids shoes under our bed.

Pros:When we checked in we were told they sold out on higher floor rooms, and only room is on the 4th floor. That room, 420 was dated! Room number on the door was handwritten. Everything was old. I was so angry that I paid over $300 including tax for this pos!

Cons:It's being remodeled. Was very noisy in our room 1802 during the day we were trying to take a break between conference sessions. The elevators were incredibly slow! up to a 20 minute wait one evening!(6/13) The door was a hassle, took multiple tries to get it open, latch isn't lined up with striker plate, told front desk, they didn't understand and gave us another key card We'll stay at the Hilton I think, but a bit more money......or wait for remodel to be finished.
