Car Rental

Any tourist wanting the freedom of setting his or her own travel pace will find rental cars to be the best choice. Roads around Zürich are easy to navigate making rental car a popular option. Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, National/Alamo, and Sixt all have reservation counters within the airport and cars are located in the Parking Garage 3 (P3). Elite/Cary Limousine also offers upscale rental cars. They are located in Arrival 1.

Public/Ground Transfer

Eleven Bus circles Zürich International Airport and makes stops in Glattal, Zürich-Oerlikon, and Winterthur. The buses leave every ten, fifteen, thirty, or sixty minutes depending on the destination. Bus terminals are located adjacent to P2, P3, or the Airport Shopping Building. Bus service is the least expensive option, but those with a lot of baggage will find it troublesome because of a limit on bags that can be brought on board.

Zürich International Airport's most convenient form of ground transportation is the train that makes trips from the airport to the city every ten minutes. In addition, other hourly trains can also take passengers to Basel, Berne, Constance, Geneva, Lausanne, Lucerne, Lugano, and Zug. For as little as $15, passengers can purchase a pass allowing them access to this train for an unlimited number of times during one day. There is a limit of 32 kilograms of baggage without paying an additional fee.

Airport Shuttles

Within the airport, garages and buildings are all attached through one of the three different levels. Passengers can use the walkways, elevators, and hallways to reach the correct gate or terminal area. A free underground train

Those who will be heading off on ski vacations can use the Zürich Airport Shuttles (Arlbergexpress) that take passengers from the airport to area ski resorts. The shuttles departs Terminal 2 every few hours and costs $62 one way or $104 round trip. Travel time is a little over two hours and provides exceptional views of Switzerland's scenery along the way. Reservations are required prior to a passenger's arrival.

Limousine Services

Elite/Carey Limousine is located right in the airport and leaves from Arrivals 1. Limousine service is luxurious and very convenient, but can be more costly. Incoming passengers can simply head to the reservations booth in Arrivals and arrange limousine service to their destination. Advance reservations are not necessary. Airport transfers range from $130 to $268 depending on the size of limousine selected. The rates include all gasoline surcharges, taxes, and insurance costs. Limousines can hold anywhere from three to thirteen passengers. Rates are per car, not per passenger. Late night arrivals may have an additional fee added.

Taxi Services

Zürich International Airport employs one taxi service to transport passengers to their destination. By using only one taxi service, prices are moderated and kept as low as possible. Other taxi companies can serve the airport, but the airport cannot ensure the lowest possible price. Airport taxi currently charges 50CHF ($42) into downtown Zürich Taxis are available at both Arrivals 1 and Arrivals 2. The rate covers up to four passengers.
