Plan the perfect holiday with KAYAK Travel Trends. In this day and age, where we travel to is often dictated by convenience. Wherever is easiest or cheapest or the most familiar are primary factors in how travel decisions are often made these days and some may say that the spirit of adventure has taken a backseat in recent years. Well, no longer
Armed with the travel search engine’s very own query data, KAYAK’s Travel Trends dashboard gives you unique insights into global travel, meaning that you can research what’s hot and what’s not, the best time to travel and the best times to save on bookings, etc. Plan the trips you actually want to plan at the hottest destinations and save money while doing it.

1 – Find the Most Popular Destinations
This dashboard lets you research which destinations are the most searched for based on time and location. The four buttons along the top – Search, Origin, Versus and When – let you navigate, research and provide you with a depth of insight when it comes to planning your trips away.
- Search – find data on flights, hotels or cars
- Origin – choose which point of departure you’d like information from
- Versus – Compare the above information with another origin point
- When – Select for when you want to see the information e.g. compare with the same time last year predict what destinations will be hot this autumn

You can use your findings from this dashboard to find travel inspiration from asking questions like – ‘What were the 5 most popular destinations amongst Glaswegians last summer?’, or even ‘I want to avoid going somewhere swamped with other British tourists, where do I want to go that doesn’t show up on anyone’s top 5?’

2 – Searches For Destinations Over Time
This Dashboard allows you to see when people search the most for a specific destination and plan accordingly.
- Search – find data on flights, hotels or cars
- Destination – pick and choose from the hottest destinations
- From – which month and year or season you’d like to see the data
- To – which month and year or season you’d like to see the data

Combining this dashboard with number 3 can give you a massive advantage in booking a holiday to a top trending destination at a time where you can enjoy it before it’s swamped with crowds of tourists.

3 – Top Trending & Declining Destinations
Are you a trendsetter or do you like to go somewhere once it has already been established as a great destination? This dashboard is your top inspiration dashboard and lets you research which destinations are hot and which are not.
- Search – find data on flights, hotels or cars
- Compare – choose from when you’d like to compare the data
- To – choose until when you’d like to compare the data
- Show – whether you’d like to see which destinations have increased or decreased by popularity

As an example: Have you been to Reykjavik before? No? Well, it’s trending this year so this may be the perfect time to go discover why.

4 – Expected Prices
Everyone likes a deal and this dashboard shows you previous price trends letting you see when and where you can save. Prices are clearly shown and show you what to expect to spend when booking a flight, a stay per night in a hotel or the costs of hiring a car at your chosen destination during different times of the year.

- Search – find data on flights, hotels or cars
- Origin – choose which point of departure you’d like information from
- Destination – choose which destination you’d like to see information for
- From – which month and year or season you’d like to see the data
- To – which month and year or season you’d like to see the data
As an example: Have you always wanted to go to Australia but the costs have seemed a bit daunting? Use this data to find a time of year where you can save on flights, hotels and car hire and then go book that dream holiday.
5 – Price Winners & Losers
This dashboard lets you see which places have become more expensive over the year and which have become cheaper.

- Search – find data on flights, hotels or cars
- Origin – choose which point of departure you’d like information from
- When – Select for when you want to see the information
- Show – whether you’d like to see which destinations have increased or decreased in price
Now you can see whether that newly trending hotspot has also increased exponentially in price, or if that that certain island you’ve always wanted to visit is showing a considerable decrease in costs this summer.

In fact, thanks to putting this article together I just booked myself a holiday from Bristol to Bangkok next May for a very jolly price. Enjoy researching your next holiday.
