1. Liverpool
For couples whose hearts like to skip a beat.
Liverpool has a way of making a simple evening turn into a topic of conversation the next day. With music woven into daily life and a social scene that encourages lingering, it’s a city where people tend to share time rather than schedule it. Is it romantic in a grand, candlelit sense? Maybe not. But it is romantic in the way that brings people closer without trying too hard. Perhaps that’s part of the appeal and possibly why love seems to last here.
Things to do on a romantic getaway: Head to Albert Dock at sunset, then make your way to the Baltic Triangle for live music or finish with cocktails at Panoramic 34, one of the UK’s highest bars.
2 & 3. London neighbourhoods: Enfield and Bromley
For couples that like big city rendezvous.
The common thread isn’t grand gestures, but space to breathe, time to talk and the freedom to enjoy everyday moments.
London may not always get credit for romance, but some of its boroughs are quietly excelling at it. Enfield and Bromley, for example, rank among the UK’s cities with low divorce rates, suggesting that the big city charm paired with park picnics, leafy streets, stunning skyline views, and cozy pubs – can help preserve some long-term passion.
Enfield relies on green spaces and old estates to slow things down, while Bromley champions daylight plans and low-key afternoons, reminding us that love doesn’t always require an evening time slot.
Things to do on a romantic getaway: In Enfield explore Forty Hall Estate and its gardens, then spend the afternoon unwinding at a nearby Hertfordshire spa. In Bromley, spend an afternoon at High Elms Country Park, followed by coffee and cake in the town centre.
4. Sutton
For couples out of the extraordinary
It doesn’t have to be complicated, Sutton makes the case for keeping things simple, so you don’t need a ‘special occasion’ to enjoy each other’s company. Romance here tends to revolve around long brunches, coffee refills, easy plans and the quiet satisfaction of spending a day together without needing to account for it.
Things to do on a romantic getaway: Start with brunch around Sutton High Street, browse local shops and catch an evening film at Empire Cinemas.
5. St. Albans
For couples who like things to feel a bit special
With a history stretching back centuries, St Albans has had time to set the scene, now for couples to enjoy. With Roman ruins at your feet and medieval streets all around, not to mention the impressive cathedral, it’s the kind of place where you can turn up without expectations and still feel quietly smug about your choice of destination for celebrating love.
Things to do on a romantic getaway: Visit St. Albans Cathedral, then settle in for a long lunch and wine along George Street or Fishpool Street.
6. Manchester
For couples who want to feed off their creativity
Manchester rewards couples who like to move through a weekend hand in hand. Days tend to start with exhibitions or record shops, roll into dinners worth booking in advance, and end with live music. It’s a city where shared interests shape the itinerary, making it a surprisingly good destination for a romantic break fuelled by curiosity.
Things to do on a romantic getaway: Visit an exhibition at The Whitworth or HOME, then head to the Northern Quarter for dinner and cocktails.
7. Kingston-upon-Thames
For couples who enjoy a touch of style
Kingston slips into the spirit of Valentine’s Day without much ceremony but with lots of style. One minute you’re by the river, the next you’re buying something nice from a small shop and before you know it, you’ve ducked into a café. It’s the kind of place where you can let your plans evolve as the day goes on, making for a rather unpredictable, and therefore surprising way to spend 14 February (or any other romantic anniversary).
Things to do on a romantic getaway: Dinner near Kingston Bridge, followed by drinks at one of the town’s late-opening cocktail bars.
8. Llandudno
For couples who favour classic seaside breaks
One of Wales’ best-known Victorian resorts, Llandudno has a way of alleviating stress that few places manage. Its wide promenade, open skies and nostalgic atmosphere create a setting where people tend to linger: over conversations, over meals and, according to the data, in relationships, too.
Things to do on a romantic getaway: Ride the Great Orme Tram for coastal views, then stay out for sunset along the pier.
9. Birmingham
For couples who choose destinations by the dinner reservation
Brum is a city where affection is expressed with a good meal. With more Michelin-starred restaurants than any other UK city outside London, not to mention galleries, theatres, and plenty of cosy spots for a nightcap, your Valentine’s date has every chance of turning into something that lasts forever.
Things to do on a romantic getaway: Book dinner in the Jewellery Quarter or Digbeth, then walk it off along the canals at Brindleyplace.
10. Bolton
For couples who like things familiar
Bolton sits comfortably between town and country, with open landscapes close by and all the everyday conveniences still within reach. Doesn’t that sound like the right setting for a relaxed weekend together?
Things to do on a romantic getaway: Spend the day around Rivington, then return for a traditional pub dinner in town.

The OpenTable Top Romantic Restaurants Methodology
OpenTable’s Top Romantic Restaurants in Liverpool, Enfield, Bromley, Sutton, St Alban’s, Manchester, Kingston, Llandudno, Birmingham and Bolton for 2026 is generated from reviews from verified OpenTable diners and dining metrics from 1st December 2024 to 30th November 2025. Restaurants with a minimum threshold of diner reviews were considered and evaluated by a compilation of unique data points, including diner ratings, the percentage of five-star reviews, the number of alerts set, the percentage of reservations made in advance, the percentage of capacity and direct searches. Metrics were weighted to comprise an overall score. The qualified restaurants were then ranked by the percentage of reviews with the tag “romantic”.
