Kayak / Expedia allowed me to book at 12:00 on a Sunday. That was apparently their closing time. So when I arrived at 12:05. No one was there. I tried calling Expedia they wouldn’t help update the rental pickup location. And Sixt wouldn’t help either. I returned at 6am the next morning only to be charged 70€ more because all the cars in my intermediate SUV were rented out. No one called or helped. Just upsold me.

I have booked and paid for SUV VW Tiguan but Sixt staff provided me Peugeot 308 instead and refused to give me any other matching SUV, plus they also charged me hidden fees for ausland, and insurance and bla bla which were even more than the original rental price. I would have booked a better car from Miles in half the price and including fuel and insurance

UPSELL! booked car for 3 days total 155 euros Ended up with 2 days at 190 euros. Upsell at rental counter. Changed from 3 to 2 days and received 13 euro decrease. Called CUSTOMER SERVICE. I waited 33 minutes to get an agent. Told him 132 euro decrease for one less day was ridiculous and I wanted my original contract back. He told me there was npthing he could do. He couldn't change a contract. A customer service agent who could not give any customer service! My original contract would now go from 155 to 190 euros and now to 330 euros if I wanted the three days! DON'T RENT FROM SIXT. UPSELL RIP-OFF! NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. (In fairness agents at rental and return were all courteous and friendly, just unempowered.

Pros:

Overall the experience with sixt was nice - the car was totally new and comfortable. Although I received a premium-class car, I reserved SUV, but not sedan that I have received. That was unfortunate and rather unexpected, given the size of luggage and the quality of countryside road I was going to.

Cons:

I would prefer a faster reaction - if sixt can't guarantee even the car class, then I would prefer an immediate cancellation. When I hear that my car is not available at the counter - that's already late for last minute changes.

Do not rent here an absolute rip off. The main points are: 1. They attempted to charge 600€ instead of 55€ for a two-day rental at the desk, and then acted like it was a mistake. They then billed my credit card for $350, without explanation. 2. They brought me a car that hadn’t been cleaned (it was filthy – see pictures). 3. The car had an almost empty fuel tank(image - It cost 120€ to fill directly after pickup). 4. They didn’t have the car I booked (smallest class), and instead said I could take a Mercedes 7-Seater, as that was the only option available. I agreed to the Mercedes, they then brought me a Hyundai Diesel. 5. After patiently waiting in line at the desk, I was told about the change from a small Opel to a 7 Seat Mercedes. I then waited 40 Minutes to get the Mercedes. After 40 Minutes the dirty Hyundai with an empty fuel tank was brought to me, and I was rudely told to take it or leave it. After waiting in total for an hour, and already late I had no choice but to take this car. 6. The car had three of four tires underinflated and they needed to be inflated. 7. The car had a low level of Adblue, so it beeped the entire two days. 8. Since the car was huge and with zero fuel economy, I spent over 200€ on fuel in less than two days. 9. This location closes at 6pm, everything else is “after hours.” You then have to park on the street and pay for parking there (2€ per hour) since they don’t allow you to bring the car into their garage afterhours.

There was no car ready at the pickup location and after some time they gave me a smaller car (Mazda 2) which didn't make me feel safe driving 900 kilometers in 2 days. The price was higher than the order. Also, no flexibility although the changes to drop the car at Berlin airport. Very disappointment.

Bad. After the return of the vehicle they unfairly overcharged me in several ways. Firstly, 4 days of insurance for a 3 day rental. Secondly, a "Premium Station Surcharge" for returning the car exactly where it was planned and known from the beginning (this charge was not mentioned before). Thirdly, a "Fuel Charge" when I just refilled the car before returning it. The person responsible for the return and for checking the car told me that I could go because everything is OK. No one informed of any issue (as fuel, for example). Then they sneakily send an invoice via email with several surcharges, hoping that you don´t notice and complain.

Bad, we asked for a petrol car and got pushed an electric car. We struggled the whole weekend to find places to charge it in the countryside. We also were told we didn't buy insurance from Kayak and so had to pay a ridiculous amount of money (more than the rental cost) to get insurance on the spot. Dissatisfied
